Sorscha and Clodagh

Sorscha watched as Quinn's chubby little fingers pulled at the Christmas wrap. She smiled broadly at the little family they had created. The little girl giggled as Clodagh pulled the wrap a little bit more trying to get her to do it as well. Something about the sound of the paper tearing had given the little girl a case of the belly laughs. They couldn't help but to laugh with her.

Sorscha was happy that she could enjoy these moments. She was having far less anxiety than when Quinn was first born. She knew she'd never shirk off all of the anxiety, but at least it was becoming more manageable.

Clodagh's eyes traveled to Sorscha. She was glad that she had finally told her about all the anxiety, but she had already sensed it. She smiled a little at the thought. Sorscha always underestimated how much she knew her.  She was her person. She would always know when something was wrong.

Their life was so different now with little Quinn, but it was also so much more complete. They saw a lot more of the Doyle side now. Her family was still distant, but she had made her peace with it. She had Sorscha, Quinn, the Doyle family, and of course the nursery family. It was going to be a lovely Christmas.

Mia and Charlotte

Mia was upstairs tucking the girls in for the night and Charlotte could hear them laughing as she cleaned up the kitchen. A smile spread across her face. She loved to hear the three of them laughing. It was music to her ears.

This year had been a whirlwind of changes and she knew some people thought they moved too fast, but when she was honest with herself she was more sure about marrying Mia than she had been about marrying Jack. They were happy and that was all that should have mattered to those around them.

Mia returned to the kitchen and stood on the opposite side of the island and slid a box toward Charlotte. "One last present, sweetheart," she said. "Amelia! We said no presents to each other!" Charlotte sheepishly reached for the gift, but deposited one for Mia on the island as well. "Charlotte Roberts!" Mia chuckled. Neither of them could let their first Christmas pass without at least one present.

The idea of not giving presents this year came about in the first week of November. They had scheduled appointments with a fertility clinic to discuss their options. They had many to choose from but, they decided on one they both thought sounded like a good fit for them. They decided to do it at home and chose a donor that already shared qualities with both of them. They jokingly decided that that would be their Christmas gift to one another.

Mia touched Char's hand and brought her back from her thought. "You okay, baby?" Charlotte smiled at her. She was fine. Thinking about that night made Char smile. They really were crazy when left to their own devices. The plan was that she would carry their child, but they got carried away. Now one, both or neither could already be carrying their baby. That was a thought she shared with Mia.

Mia raised an eyebrow thinking back. Yeah, they both could be pregnant. How had things gotten so crazy that night? She furrowed her eyebrows when she remembered that she was the one who went and got the tequila when their nerves had gotten the best of them. Jesus! Mia what were you thinking?

Charlotte turned off all the lights while Mia checked to make sure the doors were locked. They held hands and they traveled up the stairs and checked on each of the girls before heading to their own room. They had planned to both test the next morning, but they were too excited to see if their plan had worked. If they were honest they were also a little worried about if it had worked a little too well.

Mia went into the bathroom first and then Charlotte followed suit. They returned to the bedroom and sat with their legs hanging off the bed in silence. Neither really knew what to say. Neither really knew what to feel. Growing their family was the goal, so it didn't really matter by how many, right?

Mia heard the timer go off. She just couldn't get her body to move to stand up. Charlotte had done this before. Mia hadn't. They both stood. Charlotte could feel Mia's hand shaking. "Hey, no matter what,  we have each other and we have the girls."

When they got to the bathroom counter they closed their eyes. "On the count of three?" Charlotte asked. Mmhmm was all Mia could utter.
