TW: mention of miscarriage
It wasn't a secret that when they were at home Winter and Autumn seldom listened to mainstream music. They preferred their old vinyl records. The scratch of the needle across the vinyl preferred to the auto tune of today.
The indelible voices of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Etta James, Nat King Cole and the like were commonplace in their home. When she woke that morning, Autumn knew his mood had shifted. That song was a sure-fire sign that things had gone dark for Winter. She had known it was coming. She felt him slipping into his abyss. It wasn't the first time she had witnessed it since they were together, but she was usually aware of the the moment or event that triggered the spiral. This time she was at a loss.
It didn't matter if it was Eva Cassidy or Nat King Cole the song meant the same every time. Oddly, she used to love the song. It was hauntingly beautiful, but now it meant her love was struggling.
Their moods often impacted one another, but she was rather elated that this was not one of them. Had they both spiraled at the same time she feared they wouldn't find their way out of the dark again.
He had held strong for her after the miscarriage, but then six months later just as she was starting to feel like things were getting back to normal, he spiraled. She was grateful that Winter, Reece and herself had decided to go to therapy after the miscarriage because it helped her to heal and helped him to come through the darkness a lot quicker than before.
After Liliana was born, she admittedly let them get spotty about the appointments, but she knew it was time to make that phone call.
She padded off to the nursery to check on Lili. Still sleeping. He was in the kitchen. He had started to prepare some sort of breakfast, but she couldn't really tell what it was. Too much of it had burnt to be sure. He was sat at the table. Eyes red. He had been crying . She didn't call attention to it. She knew from experience that would only make things worse.
"Wint?" He didn't look up.
"My love, I think we should call Veronica..."
