T/W mention of abuse and violence
Siobhan smiled as Viv put the last of their things in the car. It wasn't a long drive home, but it was long enough for them to have a little more time before they were back to their everyday lives. She missed Jamey. They had at times wished he had been with them, but it was also nice for them to have this time alone. They had had the time to talk about things they were really looking forward to but couldn't discuss with a five-year-old in the room.
She was certainly glad that Vivian had agreed to her solution about the money issue. That would make things much smoother between them and she wouldn't have to feel like she was hiding anything from her anymore. That alone was a big relief.
They chatted away happily for a bit, but when traffic got dense, and they ran into road construction Viv had gone quiet. Siobhan was left with her own thoughts. They started out pleasant enough, but she soon found herself thinking about the abuse she had endured at Roger's hand. He really was repulsive. She had no idea now what she had ever seen in him. Yeah, the money was nice, but it wasn't her original draw to him. He had been kind and romantic in the beginning. Not that it took him long to flip the switch. The fits of rage. The never-ending calls and texts. The constant need to know where she was and who she was with. The violence.
She shook the thoughts from her head. They had just had a lovely weekend, and she didn't want to dwell on what he had done to her or to her and Viv.
Screw that asshole. He wasn't going to take anymore happiness from her. She deserved to live without that cloud over her head. She had a beautiful wife and a son. She didn't need to give any part of herself to him anymore. Not even her mind.
Siobhan thought about Jamey and how their FaceTimes with him had brought so much laughter and joy in their quiet moments. She was happy that he was having such an amazing time with the Knights. Their common love of all things space had drawn him and Reece together, and evidently Reece had his very own space room. She was rather sad they had missed the playdate. It sounded like the children had a wonderful day. Mia in the ball pit with the boys must have been quite a sight.
They were getting closer to home and Siobhan was feeling a sense of anticipation she didn't really recognize. It was a tickle in the pit of her stomach. A warm flutter in her chest. A gentle buzzing in her brain that almost made her want to cry, but also want to laugh.
It was Viv.
It was their son.
It was home.
