Like.. I hold no real talent to write a full on Pacific Rim's Au book. I don't mind the films but I'd suck writing something based with it. I know my weakness in life.
But hear me out on a book starting with the scene over them tracking down Keith, as he works on the seawalls, having left the pilot life behind on an Jaeger after his DAD DIES as his co-pilot.
And I don't mean he just dies, I mean he dies protecting his son. Keith would have been an late teen, he was thrown into an Jaeger as soon as he was able to drift with someone. That someone being his dad who understood the Jaegers were still experimental and been an pilot to test them out in hopes to make t hem safer for the time when his son should have stood as an pilot.
Yet, here Keith is between the ages of Seventeen-nineteen and thrown to fight in an Jaeger with his dad.
And of course, things go well for their first few fights.
But still in the early days but have gained successful missions so far together. They fight a new level Kaiju and Mr Kogane piratically shields his son, knowing their Jaeger was failing them and they had lost. Saving his son in his as his last act.
So, Keith is rather traumatized and done with being an pilot. Even if he can't actual drift with anyone else more since all he sees in the drift in his Dad dying.
Years later, Keith's in his mid to late twenties.
The helicopter lands a bit of distance from the seawalls and Keith tries to stay unspotted. Even starts to leave work, head ducked luck and blending perfectly with the leaving crowd.
But he gets stopped by two complete stranger.
Pidge and Matt.
Pidge grinning toothily towards Keith.
Matthew sending an pleasant smile towards him.
Keith knew Matt, knew he's Sam Holt's son and both work as the scientist/researches and mechanics that help care for the Jaegers and fix them up.
So, Keith just pounds one fist against his other hand's palm, a silent promise of a hell of a fight leaving Matt suffering in pain. Matt's smart enough to understand the silent warning or so Keith assumes.
Pidge and Matt share a nod, understanding that Keith wasn't going to come willingly nor peacefully.
Keith just stares wide eye as Matt pulls out some fighting staff from nowhere and Pidge's suddenly holding a metal bat. Both prepared to cause him some suffering and pain.
Here comes Lance, Hunk and Shiro hurrying along as they noticed the two geniuses were missing. Knowing that Pidge and Matt were the best trackers in the world. If it's people or Kaiju, they'd find them.
Hence Pidge had been tracking and hunting down Keith for the past two weeks, the others joining on the mission to bring him back since they need him to be an pilot again.
Shiro pointing out that they're not going to harm Keith, like agreed on their way here.
Pidge merely throws her bat towards Hunk who catches it, use to his old classmates behaviour. Matt makes his fighting stick grow smaller and shoves it in his pocket.
Matt taps his sister shoulder before high fiving Lance and letting him step in instead.
Keith, once more, stands on high alert and throws a fist into his palm as warning to the two before him. He's fought with Lance in the past, the man knows he's willing to fight until the bitter end.
Lance just grins cheekily as Pidge smiles like an gremlin.
Both yanking out some rope and duct tape that were hidden under their clothes before leaping at Keith without mercy.
Keith finds himself taped and tied up without a fighting chance as the two stand just inches away, admiring their work.
Pidge, who'd be between her early twenties and middle twenties just waves towards her new co-pilot. Sensing they'd be a pretty unbeatable team soon enough.
Once Keith is unable to fight or run.
Shiro carries him to the helicopter while Shiro flashes their ID's to everyone to stop anyone else from stopping them.
And that's how the book would start.
Not too much detail over Keith's past but enough.
And the first time he meets his co-pilot and future wife was by her preparing to beat him up with an bat and kidnapped him.
Keith falls so damn hard in love with her.
He's left impressed over her willing to fight him in their first meeting and her tracking abilities too.
