Side Note: This is an age swap Au. Keith and Katie were on the Kerberos with Sam Holt. Keith never lost an limb but his Galran genetics were awaken earning his canines to grow out and his eyes to glow yellow sometimes. As well as growing inhumanly stronger and gaining extra sensers. 

The Kerberos wasn't their first mission togehter and they had hoped it wouldn't be their last. They've always worked as a dream team when togehter and both passed their cadet training with passing colours in certain sections. 

They were a good team because one held strength in the others weakness and vies versa. They were equal when together and could always trust the other to be their support when it was needed. 

They weren't overly close during their cadet days but that soon changed as they ended up being able to help each other  to pass the areas they were failing in. 

It's how their circle expanded into a group of four. Lance McClain and Hunk Garret growing to be good friends to them as well. 

But the Kerberos mission was going to be a change for them. 

Not just due to her father being involved in their mission but as they were going to prove that feelings didn't always weaken a team but made it stronger. The two were always different in their bonds and relationships with others, the more they had to protect, the better they were. 

Kerberos was going to be their chance to show they could stay as a team even while gaining romantic feelings for the other. Sam supported them, demanded that the pair of them were on the mission with him and helped win over their shot to the Garrison. 

And then they got captured by aliens who weren't overly friendly.

Sam sent away to another prison while the two of them were sent to fight due to their snarky and sassy comments. Neither was frighten over the Galra and were happy to put some of the soldiers in their place. 

But the fear was real, they were both terrified and neither felt ashamed when they broken down frighten for their lives, each others lives and their future. They just let themselves be held in the others arms as they freaked out before facing the gladiator ring togehter. 

None of them were going to sacrifice for the other, they'd be a team as they've always been. Either win togehter or lose togehter. 

He got hurt first, scar across his cheek.

But she got hurt worse, a deep cut to her leg that left her unable to walk or move around without help. 

Their team was damaged and she was dragged away from him as soon as the match was over. 

He thought he lost her, forever. 

Believed she'd somehow survive but knew he'd never be able to find her in such a big universe. 

And he was a fool to think like a hopeless idiot. 

Because she left her breadcrumbs all over space, waiting for him to follow after her.
