Dragon Kin.
I'm going to tell you the story over Dragon Kin.
But first, you may wonder why they've taken to the name of Dragon Kin.
Why not Dragon Warrior?
Why not Dragon Rider?
Why not Dragon Keeper?
It's rather obvious if you take a step back from being human and look to the world as mother nature may do.
Nobody is born an warrior, one grows to be an warrior by skill and hard training. To gain such a title by proving oneself to the people and holding reason to stand as an warrior. A dragon do not make a person a warrior, the person's actions do.
Riding a Dragon is not done without the Dragon's permission nor is the dragon a mere horse to be travelled on. A dragon is much more than a means of travel and if you forget such a fact, you may find yourself riding a Dragon one final time before they drop you to your death. YOU may need a dragon to ride, but the Dragon does not need you to travel.
A Keeper means one who cares or owns a Dragon. Only those cruel enough to enslave a Dragon would stand as it's keeper. Such people would clearly fall to all others Dragons wrath. One do not keep a dragon, a Dragon stays out of pure will and not by force. If you force a Dragon, you will never hold the Dragon's trust nor it's respect.
And that's why the name Dragon Kin was born by the Dragon's own tongues many years ago.
Those born with the gift to bond with Dragons, to be able to hear them and feel them without the dragon blessing them with such gifts, is known as Dragon Kin.
People born with such powers grow to be KIN.
They are the Dragon's Kin as the Dragons will grow to be the person's kin.
They grow to be a family out of trust, respect and kindness.
A Dragon will see into a Dragon's Kin heart and chose to join them on equal footing. The Dragon choses the Dragon Kin as much as the Dragon Kin choses the dragon.
BUT a rare few can be breathed upon by a Dragon and granted the power to communicate freely with Dragons. To hear their voices as if they were mere thoughts and to be able to speak freely back to the Dragons.
It's very rare that Dragons bless such power to one who do not stand as Dragon Kin.
If the Dragons give such a blessing, it means you stand as a loyal friend and most treasured family to them.
Don't break the Dragon's heart otherwise the power will forever lost and a bitter scent left by the Dragon will forever gain you the wrath of any other Dragon you may cross paths with.
