"Tell me over home" He asked gently, running his finger's through her sticky, sweaty and short hair, her head resting on his lap as they stared to the view of the raising two suns before them.
"Home.. It's not a place. It's not even a person. It's a feeling" She carefully answered, thinking over what Home truly was without putting a full label to it. Everyone's view on home was different, she's seen it with her own eyes growing up and fighting in a universal war.
"A feeling?" He repeats, his confusion and curiosity echoing in the cold and dead silent around them.
"A feeling that brings both a smile and anxiety to you. A home makes you feel safe, protected and guarded from both the world and yourself. But it makes you feel anxious over someone or something coming along and steeling it away while you're left powerless" She tries to explain softly, feeling the weight of her eyelids as she forces them open and silently cursing the planet for making her body feel so heavy all of a sudden.
"Tell me over your home. The place you dream to return" He asks, silently pleads to hear more as he carries on stroking his gloved fingers through her hair. His eyes staying glued to the sky that fills with so many breath taking colours as the two suns rises before them.
"You don't miss a home until you've left it. You have to leave one home to fly and gain a new home somewhere else. Your own little nest. Sometimes it takes building more than one nest before you finally found the perfect one. You know it's home when you're both frighten over losing it and excited over keeping it. Home holds the toilet you trust must. Home holds the warmth and fear that we need to thrive. Home.. Home is the one thought that fills your mind once you've left it and misses it" She happily answers, her voice fading and growing tiredly as her eyes slowly start to slip close against her control and she finally starts to feel the planets terribly cold temperature.
"I wish to find such a home" He finally admits out lout to her as his fingers slip from her hair and brush warmly over her cheek.
"You'll fine it. We all do at some point in our lives. It's simply keeping it that's hard" She weakly whispers back, taking a shaky and deep breath as sleep finally takes over her whole body.
"And what if you were my home?" He choked out, his eyes finally falling to her paling face and knowing she was finally taken from him.
He didn't flinch as his tears fell from his eyes, dripping onto his helmet as the air was too poisonous for anyone to survive long without one. His other hand finally slipping free from the deep gash that spread along her stomach, pouring out of more blood than he'd ever seen possible before.
He sobbed, hating how he was silently thankful for the poisonous air numbing her body from feeling any pain from such a war wound and for turning her mind fuzzy enough to not realize she was taking her final breaths.
Her helmet laid smashed to the side of them both, her Bayard left dropped from where she was caught by a native's sword on the planet. He wasn't sure how she didn't feel such a deep wound but he still caught her, knowing help wouldn't arrive in time for her and simply making due to in keeping her at least distracted but comfortable in her final moments.
"Because you always were in the end, my dearest Katie" He quietly promises as he leans forward, resting his helmet against her forehead and wishing he was at least able to give her one final kiss to her forehead.
He won't give her his blessing in leaving for the after life, he would freely give his life to both his father and mother if only it'd bring her back. He'd sell his soul to the so called devil that apparently earth held.
He'd give his own life for her to finally be able to return home.
But now they've both lost their homes and he was left to pass on her finally moments to those she saw as family.
