Side Ship: Matt x N-7. Shadam. Hunay.
Katie had never dated in her life.
She's never had a first kiss.
Never held hands with someone she held romantic interest with.
She's held no real experience with pure love.
Growing up, she was always smaller, smarter and a little mouthy compared to all her classmates.
And when she hit her teenager years, romance and dating was a huge magical experience for most her age.
But it left her learning she was un-loveable when it came to being seen as an romantic partner.
The first time she was asked out, she wasn't sure how to feel or react.
She didn't answer straight away, in the exact second the student had finished asking her. She just stared, rather shocked and uneasy. She knew that she was meant to explore her own feelings and start learning how to love others.
She knew you were meant to feel something towards someone before dating but she's also been told that feelings don't always grow until you know each other better. Meaning, giving people a chance was encouraged. If things didn't end well, breaking up was always best but at least you've given it a try.
But her not jumping in joy or blurting out a reply straight away had exposed the truth. Laughter came from behind the student, and the student seemed relieved that she didn't respond positively.
It was a dare.
They were dared to ask out the smarty-pants loner of their school.
Katie's first experience with the dating world was a joke, it being seen as a harmless joke.
Harmless for who? She wasn't sure because she ended up hiding her hurt when she had simply carried on walking to where she was heading. Pretending to not care for what had just happened.
The student never apologized, never would.
It was a moment the student would grow to forget as they grow older while Katie used it as evidence gathered in her study of romance.
It wasn't the last dare to ask her out while she was in school. Other's had been dared and gone through with it. She had males and females classmates or fellow students in the school asking her out for a laugh.
She never fell for them, stayed guarded.
Until, she had been getting along well enough with one classmates and had hoped to risk lowing her walls for them. Accepting when they agreed on a time and place for her first ever date.
A date that never happened as she was left waiting for her crush who never turned up.
She didn't stay close with that classmate afterwards, listening to them laugh with their other friends over the whole thing. No one seemed to think it was wrong or an unkind prank to pull. And anyone who heard in passing that frowned over the prank never spoke up and scolded them either.
