Mia stood outside the café, her heart racing as she spotted Autumn sitting at a corner table. It had been years since they last spoke, and the weight of their past hung heavily between them. So much had changed over the years, and after lots of convincing from their partners, the woman decided to me. Taking a deep breath, she approached, her palms slightly sweaty.
“Hey, Autumn,” Mia said softly, trying to keep her voice steady. Autumn looked up, surprise flickering in her eyes before she composed herself.
“Mia,” Autumn replied, her tone cautious yet slightly shaky but filled with genuine warmth. Mia smiled slightly, relieved to hear her familiar tone.
“I wanted to talk to you,” Mia started, her gaze dropping to the floor, her voice barely above a whisper. They both chuckled nervously, the tension slowly easing. "Do you want to take this somewhere else?" Autumn asked as she looked around the café, it buzzing with people. "I thought you'd never ask." Mia spoke as she slipped her coat on.
"Walk around the park?" Autumn asked simply as they left, Mia nodded. "I remember all the memories from that park." Mia whispered calmly as they followed the path, walking side by side. "I remember a lot from my childhood, and the good ones mostly involve you." Autumn told her quietly.
As they continued to walk, Mia slowly.n to gain confidence. “I’ve been thinking a lot about how I treated you when we were kids. I was so caught up in my own world of trying to find my dad that I didn’t realize how much my actions had affected you till recently. I’m really sorry about that.”
Autumn’s expression softened slightly, but she remained silent, allowing Mia to continue. “And don't get me wrong, I know I was awful to Reece too,” Mia admitted, her voice cracking. “I was mean and didn’t understand how much my words and actions hurt him. I regret it every day. I just want you to know that I’ve changed, and I truly am sorry. I guess we can thank Char for that.”
There was a pause as Autumn took in Mia’s words, her eyes searching Mia’s face for sincerity. Finally, she nodded slowly. “I appreciate you saying that, Mia. It’s been hard for me to forget how things were between us, but I can see you really mean it. You were like my big sister, and I've missed you being there.”
Mia felt a rush of relief wash over her. “Thank you for understanding. I just hope we can move past this.” Autumn smiled softly, her walls that she had spent so long building were beginning to crumble. “I’d like that.”
With that, they both stood up, and without thinking, they stepped toward each other and embraced. It felt like a lifetime of hurt melted away in that hug, the warmth of forgiveness wrapping around them. For the first time in years, they felt the bond of friendship rekindling, opening the door to a new chapter in their lives. "Auts, i will always be your big sister." She whispered as the younger girl held on tighter.
