Charlotte woke up, sweat dripping on her forehead and her breathing fast. The remnants of a nightmare clung to her mind like a thick fog, and she felt disoriented, the shadows of her dreams still lingering. "Mia," she said quickly, her voice shaky as she turned to look at her girlfriend, seeking the comfort of her presence.

"Mia!" she called out louder, desperation creeping into her tone. The sound of her own voice felt grounding, but the panic still surged within her. By this point, Charlotte was scratching her nails up and down her arm, a futile attempt to distract herself from the whirlwind of emotions swirling in her chest.

Mia stirred, her eyes fluttering open, and immediately sensed the distress in Charlotte's voice. "Hey, I'm right here," she whispered, reaching out to gently take Charlotte's hand. "Breathe with me." As they locked eyes, Mia's calm demeanour began to soothe Charlotte's racing heart, and slowly, the grip of fear started to loosen. In that moment, surrounded by love and understanding, Charlotte felt herself begin to find her way back from the edge of her panic.

Mia sat beside Charlotte, her heart racing as she watched the panic unfold in her girlfriend's eyes. They had made a pact when they first met to help each other through their toughest moments no matter what the time may be. Mia focused intently on Charlotte, her gaze unwavering, determined not to break the connection they had established.

"That's it, sweetheart, you are doing so well," Mia whispered soothingly, her voice a gentle anchor amidst the storm of Charlotte's emotions. She could see the tension in Charlotte's body, the way her breaths came in shallow gasps. It was as if the world around them had faded, leaving only the two of them in this moment of vulnerability.

As Charlotte finally found the strength to move, she collapsed against Mia's chest, the dam of her emotions breaking free. Tears streamed down her face, each sob echoing the weight of her struggles. Mia wrapped her arms around her tightly, holding her close, providing the comfort and safety that Charlotte desperately needed.

"It's okay to cry," Mia murmured, stroking Charlotte's hair. "I'm right here. You're not alone." With each tear that fell, Charlotte felt a little lighter, the panic slowly dissipating as she surrendered to the embrace of her girlfriend.

In that moment, surrounded by warmth and understanding, Charlotte found solace, knowing that Mia would always be there to help her through the darkest times. The more she realized this, the closer she curled up to Mia.

"I can't get close enough to you," Charlotte choked out mid-sob, her voice trembling with the weight of her emotions. She felt an overwhelming urge to bridge the gap between them, to lose herself in the comfort of Mia's presence.

"Baby girl, you can't get much closer to me. You are already on top of me," Mia whispered calmly, her tone soothing as she held Charlotte's gaze. But Charlotte shook her head quickly, more tears rolling down her cheeks, the panic still gripping her heart.

In that moment, Mia could see the struggle in Charlotte's eyes. She wanted to help her feel safe, to ease the pain that seemed to consume her. So, with gentle determination, Mia moved slightly, taking off her shirt, creating a space that invited Charlotte in. "Now try and get closer," she whispered softly, her voice a calming balm against the chaos.

As Charlotte hesitated for just a moment, "you will get tears on you." Mia leaned in, kissing the tears away from her cheeks. Each kiss was filled with warmth and reassurance, a silent promise that she would always be there. Charlotte finally surrendered, pressing her body against Mia's, feeling the steady rhythm of her heartbeat. In that embrace, surrounded by love and understanding, the world outside faded away, leaving only the two of them in their cocoon of comfort.

As Charlotte felt the warmth of Mia's body against hers, an impulse surged within her. She reached out, her fingers brushing against Mia's breast, a mix of curiosity and vulnerability fueling her actions.

Mia's eyes widened in playful surprise, and she let out a soft laugh. "Hey now, baby girl, that's not quite what I meant by getting closer!" she teased, a playful smirk dancing on her lips. "You've got to ask for permission first!"

Charlotte pulled her hand back, a blush creeping across her cheeks as she giggled through her tears. They had dome this so many times, but every time, it made her blush. "I'm just trying to feel connected, you know?" she replied, her voice lightening as the tension began to dissipate.

"Connected, sure, but let's keep it PG for now!" Mia winked, her tone warm and inviting, reminding Charlotte that even in moments of vulnerability, there was always room for laughter and lightness. The playful exchange brought a smile to Charlotte's face, helping her feel a little more at ease as they continued to navigate their emotions together.
