"Why do you always walk around like that?" Lydia spat as she sat in the book corner of the toddler room as she watched Carly setting up tabletop activities for the children.
"Like what Lydia? We all walk the same dont we." Carly questioned. As much as she didn't want to engage in the conversation, she couldn't help but feel curious about what she had to say.
"No, you strut around like you own the place. News flash, you don't."Lydia continued to scold the other teenager. "You were his little spy for months because you had a tantrum about your birthday."
"Firstly, that is none of your business, and secondly, we have a job to be getting on with." Carly snapped slightly while trying her hardest to keep everything very professional.
"You know what? All this pretending to have an eating disorder really works in your favour. You know getting Reece wrapped around your finger is really smart." That was the final straw for Carly. She knew deep down she was getting things from reece that she didn't deserve like her new hoodie, but Carly hated when her relationship with food was brought up. She collected her group before she could start overthinking anything.
"Im taking my group to soft play." Carly mumbled before making a swift exit with a group of four toddlers. The young girl did all she could to fight back her tears. She knew going to Roger was wrong, but at the time, it felt right. She never meant to be under his control for so long.
On the way to soft play, Carly had allowed tears to fall. Fighting them back had become too hard for her.
"Carly, go take some time, im spare so i can take them for you." Charlotte spoke calmly as she placed her hand of Carlys shoulder. The young girl nodded and made her way to the staff room.
She walked in and sat at the table, but as she did, she didn't notice Reece in the corner filling Autumns and Marjories water bottle. "Carly? What's wrong? Shouldn't you be in the toddler room?" He questioned her. Just as Carly opened her mouth to speak, a sob escaped.
She put her hand in her hands as she let out all the emotion she was holding onto. Reece left the waterbottles on the side and made his way over to Carly, kneeling in front of her. "Carls, breathe for me, okay, take some deep breaths." He hushed as she took a shaky breath. He gently placed his hand on her knee to offer her the support she needs. "I let Lydia get to me. Char has got my group in soft play." She whispered while fighting back more tears.
"Okay, so what happened with Lydia? " He questioned, slightly nervous about what she was going to say, but he didn't let it show. "She made a comment about my eating and that it's a good idea, so then I've got you wrapped around my finger so i can get stuff, and she brought up the whole spy thing again." She mumbled nervously before looking at Reece. His face was unreadable.
On the one hand, reece was fuming to find out his work daughter had gone to help his dad, but on the other hand, he knew what it's like to struggle. "Carly, i can't fully forgive you for going to my father, but then again, i can't have someone talk bad about your eating. Thats not their place to comment." He hushed before standing up and holding his hands out. "Let's go and find Marjorie, and i can have words with Lydia." He told her calmly, but she shook her head.
"I can't stand being close to Auts. If anything, i portrayed her the most. I feel so guilty i just can't. That's why i have avoided the office so much." Carly sighed as Reece nodded slightly. "The things you told our father were horrible, especially when it was personal to her." Reece told her with anger in his tone. "But im glad you said that because they were both getting slightly worried about the fact you haven't been in there for a while." Reece told her now calm again. "Come on. We can go in their and drop off water bottles, and then i will talk to Lydia."
Carly followed reece into the office reluctantly, clutching Marjories drink in both her hands. "Um, Marjorie, i jave your drink." She mumbled nervously as Marjorie looked up at her. "Thank you, my love, but shouldn't you be working?" Before Carly could reply, reece spoke for her. "She's staying in here for a while because Lydia has been extremely unkind to carly. About personal things so while Char has Carlys group, I've taken her off the floor." Reece told them both calmly before moving out of the room.
"Im sorry, i know I need to get a grip. I told reece that im okay she just mentioned a few things, but then she mentioned my eating, and that sent me over the edge." Carly explained as she looked between the two women. "While while you are in here, you can make a start on your reports." Autumn told her sternly before Marjorie slowly moved closer to the teenager.
"Aut she can do that, but if someone said something about Reeces eating, would you just expect him to be fine and just work?" Autumn stopped for a moment before sighing slightly. "Come and sit with us for a bit, and then when Reeces back, we will change the shifts and put Char in with you and have her spare." Autumn whispered as she pated the chair next to her.
By the time Reece returned, Carly was working next to Autumn. "Carly, Charlotte is ready and waiting for you in the baby room. Lydia shouldn't bother you at all after our little talking." He explained as carly stood up and wrapped her arms around him. "Thank you," she whispered before walking out the office and straight to the toddler room.
