Sorscha sat on the edge of the couch, her head in her hands as the weight of the day pressed down on her. The house was quiet, but the silence felt deafening. She had tried her best to be the perfect parent, but the challenges seemed to multiply each day. The sleepless nights, the endless cries, and the constant worry had taken their toll.
Clodagh walked in, sensing the tension in the air. She immediately noticed Sorscha's tear-streaked face and rushed to her side. "Hey, love, what's wrong?" she asked softly, wrapping her arms around Sorscha.
"I just... I don't know if I'm cut out for this," Sorscha admitted, her voice trembling as the tears flowed freely. "I feel like I'm failing. I can't keep up with everything. Some days, it's just too much."
Clodagh held her tighter, allowing Sorscha to lean into her for support. "You're not failing, Sorscha. Parenting is hard, and it's okay to feel overwhelmed. You're doing your best, and that's all anyone can ask for."
Sorscha let out a shaky breath, feeling both comforted and vulnerable. "I just wish I could be stronger for you and Quinn. I want to be the mum our child deserves and not the mum i had growing up."
Clodagh gently lifted Sorscha's chin, forcing her to meet her gaze. "You are strong, and you are enough. Remember, we're in this together. You don't have to carry it all by yourself." Clodagh reassured, but nothing seemed to help ease the pain that had been heavy on Sorschas' chest for weeks now.
"Babe, please go and call Char or Marjorie or Autumn or Winter, please. I can tell you are struggling, and you know they have all offered you support." Clodagh whispered while rocking Sorscha in her arms, but the Irish woman shook her head and snuggled up closer to her wife. "I will call Char for you then, I'm fed up with watching you pull yourself apart every time we put Quinn to bed." Sorscha moved her phone away from Clodagh to try and stop her, but it didn't help.
Clodagh moved away from her wife, simply retrieving the phone before finding Sorschas' contact list. "Who do you want me to call?" Clodagh asked quietly as she watched her pull a blanket around her shoulders tightly before shrugging. "Fine, i will get Charlotte here, and if she's busy, then i will call Aut." Clodagh whispered before walking out of the living room to make the phone call.
Clodagh paced the kitchen with her phone pressed to her ear. "Hey, Charlotte. Can you come over? Sorscha is really struggling today."
"Of course, Clodagh. What's going on?" Charlotte replied, concern evident in her voice.
"She's feeling overwhelmed with everything. I just found her in tears, and I think she needs someone to talk to, other than me" Clodagh explained, her voice tinged with worry.
"I'll be right there. Sometimes, just having someone to listen can make all the difference," Charlotte said reassuringly.
"Thank you. I know she'll feel better with you here. You always have a way of comforting her," Clodagh said, relief washing over her.
"I'll bring some snacks too for you guys to share after I've left. A little comfort food never hurts, right?" Charlotte suggested with a light laugh.
"Exactly! You always know how to lift her spirits. I really appreciate this," Clodagh said, feeling grateful.
"Don't mention it. Just focus on being there for Sorscha. I'll see you both soon," Charlotte replied before hanging up.
Clodagh took a deep breath, feeling hopeful that Charlotte's presence would help Sorscha find some peace.
Sorscha sat on the couch, her hands trembling as she tried to steady her breathing. The weight of her emotions felt unbearable, and she could feel the tears welling up in her eyes once again. Clodagh walked back in immediately moved closer, and gently wrapped her arms around Sorscha, creating a cocoon of warmth and security.
"Shh, it's okay. Charlotte is on her way" Clodagh whispered, her voice soft and reassuring. "I'm right here with you."
Just then, Charlotte entered the room, her expression shifting from curiosity to concern as she saw Sorscha's tear-streaked face. Without hesitation, she knelt down in front of Sorscha, taking her hands in hers. "Hey, Sorscha. You're not alone in this. We're both here for you," she said, her tone filled with compassion.
Sorscha looked between her two friends, feeling the love and support radiating from them. "I just feel so overwhelmed," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know how to handle everything right now."
Clodagh tightened her embrace, gently rocking Sorscha as if to soothe her. "You don't have to have all the answers. It's okay to feel lost sometimes. Trust me, it's okay, i was crazy enough to do it twice, Sorscha it will be okay, and asking for help is a great start. Get Aut here to do bedtime once a week or something, well, until she has her little one. You know she loves Quinn, and she also loves Uncle Reecey and her Auntie Marji. Her face lights up to them both. Just call them or get Clodagh to and they will be hear in a heart beat." she said, her voice steady and comforting.
Sorscha nodded, her eyes filled with understanding. "You're doing your best, and that's what matters. We'll get through this together. Like Agatha told you, it takes a village. " Charlotte assured, squeezing Sorscha's hands gently.
With their warmth surrounding her, Sorscha felt the tension begin to ease. The tears continued to fall, but they felt less heavy now, as if shared with her friends. "Thank you for being here," she said, her voice breaking slightly. "I don't know what I'd do without you two."
"You'll never have to find out," Clodagh replied, her voice filled with determination. "We'll always be by your side."
Charlotte smiled softly, leaning in to rest her forehead against Sorscha's. "You're stronger than you think, and we believe in you," she whispered, creating a moment of connection that filled Sorscha with hope.
As they sat together, Sorscha realized that with Clodagh's embrace and Charlotte's unwavering support, she could face whatever challenges lay ahead. In that moment, surrounded by love, she felt a glimmer of strength returning, ready to take on the world with her friends by her side.
