Mia was having a typical busy day at work in the office. She was trying to sort out the order for next week while also putting up with Marjories constant chatter when she suddenly felt a familiar cramp in her abdomen. Mia brushed it off at first, thinking it was just a minor discomfort from sitting too long. But as the day went on, she realized that something was different.
She quickly excused herself, making a trip to the restroom confirmed her fears. She had gotten her period unexpectedly. Growing up, Mia had always suffered with irregular periods, but this took her by total shock.
Panic set in as she stood in the stall, feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over her. All the things she had said to Carly and Reece about the one time Carly had leaked rushed through her head. 'I would never let something like that happen to me,' and here she was. The last thing she wanted was to tell Marjorie, her supervisor, Reeces wife, her least favourite person about her situation. Marjorie was known for being over exadurate, and Mia felt too ashamed to bring it up. Instead, she decided to seek out Charlotte, her girlfriend and now coworker, who she knew would be more understanding.
Mia took a deep breath and made her way to the room Charlotte was working in, trying to act as casual as possible. "Hey, Charlotte, do you have a minute?" she asked, her voice slightly shaky. Charlotte looked up, sensing something was off. She could tell a mile off that her girlfriend was hiding something. "Sure, Mia! What’s up?" Charlotte asked quietly as she played along with the front that Mia was holding up.
Mia hesitated for a moment, glancing around to make sure no one was listening. "Um, I kind of need some... supplies. I just got my period, and I didn’t expect it today." Mia barely got out as she was too ashamed.
Charlotte’s face softened with empathy. "Oh, of course! No problem at all. I have some in my bag. Let’s go to the break room so you can grab what you need." She whispered softly.
Relieved, Mia followed Charlotte, grateful for her friend’s support. As they walked, Charlotte reassured her, "Don’t worry about it. You are okay. I’m just glad you came to me, baby!" Charlotte whispered as she handed Mia a pad but also a tampon. "If you need anything else, you have my spare locker key, so help yourself. I need to get back to the room, but i love you." Mia smiled at Charlotte before kissing her softly.
It was long till Mia sat back at her desk, trying to focus on the reports in front of her, but the sharp cramps in her abdomen were making it nearly impossible. They had started with her feeling a bit off, but now, as she sat in the office with Marjorie, the discomfort intensified. She could feel the heat rising to her cheeks, and she hoped her boss wouldn’t notice.
Marjorie was busy typing away, occasionally glancing at Mia to check on her progress. Mia forced a smile, trying to appear composed, but each wave of pain made it harder. She shifted in her chair, hoping to find a position that would ease the cramps, but nothing seemed to work.
“Everything okay, Mia?” Marjorie asked, her tone a mix of concern and curiosity. She was known to be the least observant person, so the fact she noticed made Mia nervous.
“Yeah, just a bit tired,” Mia replied, hoping to brush it off. She took a deep breath and tried to focus on the screen, but the tightness in her stomach was relentless.
As Marjorie continued to work, Mia discreetly reached for a heat patch she had stashed in her top drawer, hoping the warmth would provide some relief. She carefully placed it on her abdomen beneath her shirt, all while maintaining a calm facade. “Do you need a break?” Marjorie asked, noticing Mia’s fidgeting once again.
“No, I’m fine! I'm just trying to get this done,” Mia insisted, forcing herself to type. She felt a bead of sweat form on her forehead as she battled the pain silently, wishing she could just be at home curled up with a blanket and cuddles with Charlotte.
