The clock ticked relentlessly, each second amplifying Marjorie's anticipation. Finally, 5:30 PM arrived, liberating her from the office. She shut down her computer, grabbed her bag, and practically sprinted out the door. The thought of seeing Autumn amd the twins made her want to move faster. As she drove, Marjorie replayed her last interactions with the twins and the fact Autumn had used her brothers name.
Autumn had immediately noticed that Marjorie sounded a bit down, and was determined to lift her spirits and ease her anxiety. The reason why she didnt move when Marjorie lent against her.
Arriving at Autumn's, Marjorie practically leaped out of the car. She rang the doorbell, her heart doing a little flutter. When Autumn opened the door, her face lit up, and in that moment. Marjorie knew the evening would be perfect.
The clock ticked softly in the quiet nursery as Autumn settled into the rocking chair, a twin nestled in each arm. Dorian and Emery, were stirring, their tiny mouths opening and closing in search of food. "Marjorie, could you possibly give me a hand?" Autumn asked, her voice laced with exhaustion. "I'm finding it hard to manage both bottles at once and with Winter downstairs cooking for us all, i dont want to ask him."
Marjorie, ever the reliable friend, moved closer with a warm smile. "Of course, Auts. Let me take one." With gentle hands, Marjorie took Emery from Autumn's arms and settled into a nearby chair. Autumn positioned Dorian comfortably and offered him a bottle, while Marjorie did the same for Emery. The twins latched on eagerly, their tiny bodies relaxing as they began to feed.
A peaceful silence filled the room, broken only by the soft sounds of the twins' contented sighs. Autumn and Marjorie exchanged knowing glances, a shared understanding passing between them. As the babies emptied their bottles, Marjorie carefully burped Emery, while Autumn did the same for Dorian. With the feeding complete, the twins drifted off to sleep, their tiny faces serene and content. Autumn looked at Marjorie, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Marjorie," she whispered. "I don't know what I would do without your help." Marjorie smiled softly before looking down at Emery as she slept in her arms. "Sleep well little one, your moma loves you so much." She hushed before moving to lay her down in the moses basket. "Could you lay Dori down for me please? My back hurts when i do it." She mumbled as to not wake the sleeping babies.
Marjorie walked over to Autumn before picking up the sleeping baby. "Shh Dori, ive got you its okay." She whispered before gently laying him down, running her finger down his cheek gently. A single tear rolled down Marjories cheek as she moved away. "He would be so proud of you." Autumn whispered quietly before moving slowly to stand next to Marjorie.
Before Autumn could say anything else, Marjorie practically sprinted out of the room. She stood at the top of the stairs taking a deep breaths. "Marj-" Autumn whispered as she moved towards Marjorie, placing her hand on her shoulder. "Im okay, please dont make a big deal, im fine." She told her seriously before making her way downstairs.
The aroma of garlic and herbs filled the cosy kitchen as Marjorie and Autumn gathered around the table. Winter, beaming with pride, placed a steaming bowl of pasta in the center. "Tada! My famous pesto primavera," He announced, gesturing grandly. "I hope you both are hungry!"
Autumn's eyes lit up. "It looks amazing, my love! I can already tell it's going to be delicious." Marjorie nodded in agreement, her stomach rumbling in anticipation. "I haven't had a good pasta dish in ages. Thank you for cooking for us, Winter." With a flourish, Winter served portions onto each plate, making sure to include a colorful mix of vegetables.
As they began to eat, a comfortable silence settled over the table, punctuated only by contented sighs and the clinking of forks. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the pesto sauce rich and flavorful, and the vegetables added a delightful crunch. "Winter, this is absolutely divine!" Autumn exclaimed, twirling more pasta onto her fork. Marjorie nodded enthusiastically. "Seriously, Winter, you've outdone yourself. This is the best pasta I've ever had!" Winter couldnt help but blush slightly, clearly pleased by the compliments. "I'm so glad you both like it," he said, his eyes sparkling with happiness. "Cooking for my friend and my wife is one of my favorite things to do." He whispered.
