Winter sat in the comfort of his own home filled with soft light and the comforting scent of vinilla candles. His wife loved the smell even though it was very iconic because nothing about her was vanilla. Winter sat curled up on the couch, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. It had been a long day, and the weight of the world felt heavy on his shoulders. His partner, Autumn, had gone to work, whereas it was his day off. He spent the day alone in the comfort of their home.
The stillness of the house gave winter time to think, going back to memories he loved and would relive everyday but then the longer he thought the sooner he landed on the date he wish he could forget, the 9th of June. The day their world crumbled around them.
A single tear rolled down his cheek as he thought about what could have been. He moved quickly to wipe his face as soon as he heard the front door open. "My love?" Autumn called out softly as she put her bag down and slipped out of her heels. Winter kept quiet as he stared into space, watching the candles flicker on the coffee table in front of him.
Of course, Autumn noticed immediately that something wasn't right. Without a word, she walked over and sat beside him, wrapping an arm around Winters shoulders. “Hey, it’s okay,” she whispered softly, pulling him closer. “You’re not alone in this. When you are ready to talk, i will be here to listen.” Winter leaned into Autumn, feeling the warmth radiate from his partner, a soothing balm for his frayed nerves.
"Im guessing that as you are sitting in the dark that you haven't really felt like moving from here, so im also guessing that you haven't eaten or drank anything?" She asked as he nodded slightly. "My love, im just moving to get you a drink, and i will be back." She whispered before walking out of the room.
Winter watched her leave, and all the feelings he had held in all suddenly became real as the floodgates opened. By the time Autumn returned with the glass of water and a couple of biscuits, he had gotten himself into a state. "My love, can you take some deep breaths for me?" She asks before kneeling on the floor in front of him and talking hold of his hands.
She watched as her husband took some shaky breaths. "Well done, my love." She watched him with pain clear on his face. "Im sorry." He choked out, but Autumn shook her head. "You are okay, my love. It's all okay." She whispered before moving to hug him.
He clung to her as she wrapped her arms around him gently. "My sweet, do you want to talk about what is bothering you?" Autumn questioned softly while moving her hand up to play with his hair. "I was thinking about what things would be like if the 9th of June never happened. I just spiralled really quickly." He explained calmly. "My love, it's okay, i hope you know that no matter what, i am proud of who you are. It's really sad, but we are strong, my sweet, but I also know that there is more to this than just that." She was calm when she spoke to him, and not once did she let him go.
"I just missed you, i font like having the day to myself. I couldn't even sort of my stupid curly hair." He told her, his voice laced with frustration and pain. Autumn listened closely before running her fingers through his hair and scratching his scalp gently with her long nails.
His whole dimension changed as he relaxed at her touch. "My sweet, you know how i feel about your curly hair. I hope one day our little one gets your beautiful curls." Autumn whispered quietly before kissing her husband. "I love you so much," he muttered against her lips.
"Please have a drink, my love," Autumn told him as she picked up the glass from earlier and passed it to him. She. Couldn't help my admire him while he drank. "Do you want to order a takeaway tonight, or should I cook something." She asked, but winter held onto her tightly. "I want takeaway do i can stay with you." He mumbled nervously.
"How about we have a shower. Im sure it would help you, but i also need to shower." Winter nodded, and before he knew it, Autumn had picked him up and carried him into the bathroom.
The bathroom was steamy, filled with the fragrant scent of lavender soap, and the dim light added a cosy ambience.
As they stepped into the shower, the warm water cascaded over them, washing away the emotions of the day. Autumn playfully splashed water at winter, who laughed a little and retaliated with a gentle spray, causing both of them to erupt in giggles. It was a moment of pure joy that they both needed after their stressful day, where the outside world faded away, leaving just the two of them wrapped in warmth and laughter.
Autumn took a moment to wash Winters hair, her fingers massaging his scalp as he leaned back, enjoying the sensation. "You always know how to make me feel relaxed," he said with a smile, his eyes sparkling with affection. She grinned back, feeling a rush of love for the man who made even the simplest moments feel special.
As they rinsed off, they shared sweet whispers and soft kisses, the water creating a symphony of sounds around them. In that intimate space, they found comfort not just in the warmth of the water but in each other’s presence, solidifying their bond with every shared laugh and loving touch.
