"Corporal? Erwin sent me. He said he was worried about you." I heard a groan as he walked towards the door. He opened the door, a neutral expression on his pale face.
"Tch. Why send a brat like you when he could've just come himself?" He coughed. He did not look well. He was paler than usual, his eyes were tired and he kept coughing.
"Sir. With all due respect Commander Erwin is a busy man." I said saluting.
"Drop the salute cadet." He grumbled. "Come in." He stepped aside as I walked into his spotless room. His gear all laid out neatly. He walked over to pick it up but stumbled. I ran to catch him but as he regained his balance I received a slap across the face. "I don't need help. I'm humanities strongest. I can keep myself upright." He defended, wobbling slightly where he stood. I kept my hand held over my stinging cheek and my eyes to the floor.
"You're right. I'm sorry sir." I spoke, desperately trying not to cry. Ever since I joined the Survey Corps as a cadet I've always looked up to Corporal Levi, I like him and for him to strike me like that, it really hit home that I am nothing to him. Just another cadet. "I-i should be going. I hope you feel better soon Sir." I say saluting before walking back towards the door. I almost reached the door when I was held back by my wrist.
"Y/N. I'm sorry for striking out. You're right. I haven't been feeling myself recently." He picked up the first part of his gear and started putting it on.
"Sir. I don't think you should go out today. I think you should rest."
"Did I ask what you thought cadet?" He coughed turning round struggling with a strap on his thigh. I walked over and placed my hand on his.
"Sir. Go back to bed." I unbuckled the strap he was struggling with. "Please sir."
"You can't order me around brat. I'm your corporal." He mumbled shuffling back to his bed and laying down. "I'm going back to bed only because I want to."
"Sure thing Corporal. You tell yourself that. You know I'm right." I pulled his duvet up over him.
"Stop mothering me cadet."
"Corporal Levi. You need mothering. Keep under the covers and sweat out this flu. What were you doing to get this sick anyway?" I asked making a hot cup of tea for him.
"I was cleaning the stables."
"Your obsessive cleaning will be the death of you corporal. Not those damn Titans." I sighed, handing him the tea. "I'd hate to see you die sir.... You're important to me- I mean uh. To the rest of the legion. Humanities strongest and all. Very very important....." I trailed off trying to backtrack what I'd just admitted to. Levi had sat up drinking his tea with the quilt wrapped around him. "I'm sorry sir."
"Quit blabbering cadet." He said sneezing shortly after. "I'm cold. Come here." He pulled back the duvet
"You want me to sit next to you sir?"
"I do.... You will keep me warm. Obviously." He shrugged. "Tch." I sat in with him and he rested his head on my shoulder. This is very out of character for Corporal Levi but I guess being ill does weird stuff to us all. Before I could say another word to him he was asleep, I just sat looking at him. He may be small but he is very handsome. I moved slightly, trying to get out but he had a hold of my wrist, only gently but I didn't want to wake him.
He stirred and opened his eyes. "I'm glad Erwin sent you." His voice was drowsy and I felt that he wasn't fully awake.
"I'm glad I'm here too Corporal."
"I like to watch you train. You're very good on the 3D gear and the way you fight is very unique." I just sat there listening to him as he rambled on half asleep. "You'd be a good person to spend time with. You clean well. You're pretty." His words were getting more and more slurry I could tell he was going back to sleep. "You're not annoying.. Like.. Jaeger." He laid his head down on his pillow pulling me with him, I too eventually fell asleep. We were both woken up hours later by Hanji.
"Corporal!! Up and out. You need some fresh air!! We're going to..." She stopped when she saw me also wrapped up in the covers. "To.. Corporal Levi? Cadet L/N?" I sat up only to receive a kick, causing me to fall out of his bed.
"Get out you stupid brat. You did what you needed to do. Now go clean your 3D gear or something." I stood up and saluted.
"Yes sir... Squad leader Hanji." I greeted as I walked past her. As I walked out his room I looked back, Levi was strapping on all his 3D gear. He must be feeling better then.
I walked back to my room and pulled out my 3D gear, I sat on the edge of my bed, cleaning the equipment meticulously. "Stupid idiot to think you meant something to him." I muttered to myself, furiously scrubbing at a dried on piece of dirt. "You're just another brat to him another wet behind the ears cadet he has to put up with." Slowly I stopped and tears began to fall down my face. "People say crazy things when they're half asleep and ill like that. He was probably talking about Petra or something. Why do I have to like him? Probably the coldest man in the entire legion and I have to fall for him."
"Tch." I jump and look up at the corporal in front of me. I stand and salute. "You should really keep your mouth shut cadet," he pulled me down to his height by the collar of my shirt. "You never know who might be listening." His eyes pierced into mine. I tried to pull back but his grip was strong. "Did I say you could stand up?"
"No sir." I shook my head.
"I heard what you said. All of it. I came to apologise for how I acted in front of Hanji. I'm not permitted to be seen in such an intimate situation with one of my cadets. I must admit I was sad when she came in. It means our time was cut short. I wanted it to last longer, to spend longer wrapped up in your arms. It was peaceful like that."
"Sir I-"
"-Levi."
"Levi. I'm sorry you heard me say all that stuff. I wasn't thinking about who could've been here. You should have no need to pretend that you like me just because I'm sat here crying. So just tell me how you really feel. Get it over and done with."
"You're right I'm probably the coldest here so why should I spare your feelings? I'll tell you why. Because if I didn't actually like you I wouldn't. Those other cadets. I couldn't give two shits about them. They can wine, they can moan, they can hate me for all I care. They just have to do what I order them to. But you. You're different. I do genuinely like you."
"I guess you heard how I feel about you.." Still keeping a firm hold on my shirt collar he pulled me forwards and placed his lips on mine. It took a second or two to get over the shock but I kissed back. I heard the click of the door and Levi instantly pulled back and pushed me so I fell onto the floor.
"That cleaning is inadequate. I expected better especially from you! I want this gear to shine. 10 minutes in my office, I want you to bring it and show me." He turned on his heel to face a tired looking Eren in the door way. "And Jaeger. Clean up your bedding area. It is a complete mess. I want everything laid out for tomorrow. I will be back to check in an hour. Get to it!"
"Yes sir." We both saluted. As he walked out the room.
"Man. The corporal is in a rather bad mood today isn't he?" Eren groaned straightening his bed. I just polished my gear with a smile on my face.
"Levi. He's okay."
"Yeh. That's just you're crush talking." I laughed and continued cleaning. Oh. If only you knew Jaeger.
