New to the Detroit Police Department  I'm being transferred here as I'm moving back to be with some family. Thankfully the precinct here has just lost a Sergeant due to them returning so I filled the gap. I am to report to the Lieutenant under which I am assigned. I'm put onto the Deviant android cases as I do have some knowledge of them, I worked on the same task force in my old job in the NYPD. Moved out there with a boyfriend. Let's just say it didn't work out hence coming back to be with family in Detroit.
I'm walking around searching for Lieutenant Anderson instead I find an android standing at his desk. "Uh. Excuse me. Where is Lieutenant Anderson?" The android turns to face me, looking me over, evidently scanning me for some kind of information.
"The Lieutenant has a tendency to be late to work. I'd advise you to either have a look around or wait for him here to pass the time." Unlike a lot of androids he appeared to be middle aged... if he were human that is. Grey hair, a beard. He kinda looked like my dad when he was a little younger.
"Sergeant (y/n) (l/n)." I offered my hand to the android. "And you are?" He gently shook my hand.
"Android model HK800, I am a prototype detective android, but you can call me Hank."
"It's a pleasure Hank. What can you tell me about the Lieutenant?" I asked sitting in the empty desk opposite him.
"The Lieutenant isn't the biggest people person. He doesn't favour androids either. He was described as a brilliant detective and a model officer but something happened. Something that was not placed on any form of documents so I have no knowledge of it." He paused thinking for a moment. "He also owns a dog, follows baseball and listens to heavy metal."
"Oh okay. So he's not all that bad." I laughed. "Thanks Hank." I smiled at the android.
"You seem to like androids."
"That I do. They're amazing feats of technology and every android I've met, out of work that is, has been nothing but pleasant to me. Like you."  As I was talking to the android someone came and sat in the seat of Lt Anderson's desk. Looking at him the photo matched that of the file I'd been given stating whom I was assigned to. I stood up and saluted him. "Sir. I'm-"
"Yeah. I know who you are." He spoke not looking up from his papers rubbing his temples, "and can you dial down the decibels. Kinda nursing a headache." I walked back and came back with a cup of coffee and from my pockets produced some ibuprofen placing both under his nose. "What's all this for. You don't need to kiss arse around me. I'm not the one who gives you a promotion."
"Believe me. I'm not. Those are for the headache and the coffee is to wake you up. Your android may be able to put up with you like this but I won't."
After taking the pills with a swig of coffee he stood up and loomed over me. It was the first proper look I got at the guy. He was kinda handsome, hazel eyes, a young looking face, short but kinda messy brown hair. He was quite well built so him standing over me was kinda intimidating. "Let's get a few things straight. I don't give a shit what that plastic prick thinks nor do I care what you think. Another thing you don't get to order me or think that what you say has any baring on my decision."
"Then why'd you take the pills?" I smirked. He looked taken aback for a moment.
"I wanted rid of this damn headache." He mumbled before sitting back down.
"Sure thing Lieutenant. Sure." I smiled.
"Just Connor."
"Connor. Ok. Informal it is."

Le time skip

"Connor!" I yelled running after him, the three of us were chasing a Deviant , he'd just pushed Connor off a roof to which he was clinging onto for his life, Hank was stood watching the Deviant escape weighing up the value of Connor's life. "Hank go! I got this!" He nodded at me and took off after the Deviant. I grabbed Connor's hand and helped him up onto the roof.
"Fucking android. Leaving me for dead!"
"Connor I told him to. I was helping you!" He took a moment to calm down.
"Yeh. Thanks Y/N. Let's go get that Deviant." I followed him to where Hank was fighting the deviant. They stopped for a moment then the Deviant pushed Hank and jumped of the roof to its inevitable death.
"Damn it." I mumbled. "Don't worry Hank. We'll get the next one." I patted the android on the shoulder.
"The Deviant it said something before it jumped. Something about this RA9. Do either of you know what this means."
"I might." I stated as they both turned to look at me. "There are only rumours but they say RA9 was the first android to 'wake up' they now treat this android as some kind of deity."
"Where did you learn this?" Connor asked.
"I did what others thought was impossible. I went undercover as an android."
"They'd know you were human." Hank stated. "For one you cannot interface with other androids. Another if you got injured you would not bleed Thirium. That is naming only two faults."
"Things like LEDs and the appearance of internal circuitry can be easily mimicked but your right. The thing about Thirium. Simple. Don't get hurt. The interface problem, easy." I lifted up my right hand, the flesh vanished to reveal the white like that of an android. "I lost my arm in a accident many years back. So they made this prosthetic, imbedded in the elbow is a chip full of 'memories' see for yourself." I offered Hank my hand. He took it and liked into 'my mind'.
"That is impressive." Connor stated. "Let's go. We're done here."
Once back in the police station and I'd written up what had happened I felt someone tap on my shoulder. I look up and there's Connor leant against my desk. "You wouldn't wanna come for a drink after work would you? A thank you, for you know, not letting me fall to my death."
"Uh. Sure thing. Just finishing up my case notes."
"You know. Hank can do that, he is an android."
"I know. I just like doing it. Don't want the androids getting all the fun." I laughed. "I like knowing I have everything organised." I shrugged typing in the last of my notes. "There." I stood up and grabbed my coat. "Come on Lieutenant. After you, you seem like you know the best places to drink round here."
"And what is that supposed to mean sergeant?" He spoke with a smirk.
"That you are a man of good taste." I responded with a matching cheeky smile.
"You know what. I like you. You've got an answer for everything."
"Not too bad yourself Connor. You're not nearly as much of an arsehole as I thought you were." I laughed.
"Oh really? What makes you say that?"
"You're nice enough to me. Well you are now. At first, you were a complete jerk but I guess I've warmed on you." I spoke, nudging him playfully.
"You just earned my respect, what you've been through and your dedication and incredible knowledge of your field. I read your files, I know about the accident and everything. Read them while you were typing up case notes." He shrugged as he lead me to a bar and ordered us some drinks. "How do you not hate androids? It was one that caused you to lose your arm."
"Because it was an accident. It wasn't the fault of the android. It was the cop's fault. The Deviant was scared and I had managed to calm it down and I was holding its hand when the cop shot at the android, it reacted to save itself and my arm was in the way. Dislocated at the elbow, compound fracture to the humerus and the ulna, severe nerve damage from the elbow down. I could neither feel nor move my hand. The only logical option was to take it off from just above the elbow. But if that cop hadn't have shot at the android it would've been okay. I blame him, not the android." He sat, listening to my story. "That's why I chose to become a police officer so things like that don't happen again. Be it a violent deviant or an accident like me."
"Do you know what happened to the android?" Connor asked.
"Yes. It was shot on sight. Right in front of me. A thirteen year old girl. This poor android was just afraid and it was shot for accidentally injuring me."
"This is what I like about you. You see the world for the messed up place that it is." He stood up and paid the check. "I'll be seeing you at work tomorrow. Have a good one." He waved walking out.
Strange. Still quite aloof but he'll warm up eventually. I'll break through that hard exterior, see what Lieutenant Anderson is really like. But hey, out for drinks after work. I like where this is going.
