How'd I end up at this agency? I was never an outstanding student, I was never one for being flashy or out there. I guess the versatility of my quirk got me here. Hawks' agency.
I am meeting my new boss today, we are going on patrol together. Nervous is an understatement. I knocked on the door. "Yeah." Was all the response I got. I opened the door.
"Uh. Sir?"
"Let me just stop you right there. I don't want none of that 'sir' business. We're relaxed here. Got it?" He grinned from the couch on which he sat.
"U-Uh. Sure." I walked over. "It's a pleasure to work with you." I offered my hand in greeting, he gently shook it but the moment his hand met mine a large pair of wings sprouted from my back. "A-Ah. About that. I'm sorry. I should've thought." I backed away almost embarrassed by forgetting my own quirk.
"It's fine. Don't worry about it. They kinda suit you." He smirked. "So this is how that mimic quirk works?"
"Y-you hired me without knowing the ins and outs of my quirk?" I questioned, shocked. "Well. As soon as I touch someone I can copy their quirk until I willingly give it up or happen to touch someone else. I can't copy more than one at a time and if I willingly give up your quirk when I go home I will have to touch you again tomorrow to gain your quirk again."
"Sounds like a great quirk if I'm honest." He grinned, standing up and walking past me to the window, opening it. "Ever had a winged quirk before?" He smirked.
"Oh Uh. No. It's a relatively rare quirk to have."
"Well then. Guess I can take you under my wing." He chuckled slightly at his own pun. He edged closer to the edge of the open window, holding his hand out to me. I hesitated slightly. "Come on. You can only take my wings once eh." He smiled.
"You're not seriously thinking I'm going to jump out of that window?"
"Best way to take flight." He grinned. "Come on baby bird, time to fly the nest." I shyly took his hand.
"You've had wings your whole life. I don't even know how they work. Another drawback of my quirk I don't know how to use ones I've never copied before."
"Just jump and before you hit the ground spread them out. It's not rocket science." He shrugged falling backwards out the window. I watched as he soared up into the sky and then landed back on the window ledge, holding his hand out to me. I took it but as he helped me up onto the ledge he let go. "And don't forget to flap!"
That's it this is how I die. Just spread the damn wings the thermals should do the rest. I closed my eyes and braced for impact with the pavement but it never came. Evidently I'd tensed the right muscles in my back to spread the wings. I'm actually flying. "Not bad. Not bad at all." I heard from beside me. "I thought I'd have to save you then." He smiled. "Come on. Let's take this new quirk of yours for a test flight." He quickly overtook me and evidently meant for me to follow.
After hours of flying over the city we perched atop a building. "Your eyesight really is great." I grinned looking around. "I can see so much."
"Best way to patrol is from the air and it pays to have good eyes."
"I understand."
"Now. I know you're a capable young hero but let me escort you home." I nodded and leapt from the building, taking flight once more. I landed outside the door to my apartment building, Hawks landing right next to me. "You live here?"
"Yeh. I'm not a big shot hero like you. I scrape by with what I can do. It's a relatively small apartment but it is cozy and it's home so what can you do?" I smiled unlocking the door. "Here we are." I threw my keys into the pot beside the door. "Snowball. Here boy!" I called out and a small white cat came trotting over and allowed me to pick him up. "Oh." I turned back to Hawks. "I'd appreciate it if you kept this to yourself. Technically we're not meant to have animals in the house." I smiled weakly.
"I'm a hawk, not a canary. I won't sing for anyone." He smiled.
"Thanks." I looked around awkwardly, shrugging and concentrating on giving up this new quirk, the wings retracted into my back and I looked back at my new boss. "So uh. Thanks for making sure I'm home safe. I'll Uh. I'll see you tomorrow then."
6 months later
"Your place or mine?!" Hawks shouted at me over the rushing wind.
"We stayed at your place the other day!" I answered stooping into a dive.
"What does that matter?!" He questioned diving next to me.
"We'll settle it this way. A little game of chicken. Last to pull up before the ground loses." I smirked.
"Fine but remember I've been flying my entire life." He looked from me to the ground which was rapidly closing in.
"It's not a test of skill. It's one of guts." I was surprised when he pulled up first. "Ah ha." I grinned, landing next to him on a rooftop. "My humble abode it is. Sorry. No penthouse apartment today." I laughed.
"It's cute." He smirked. "Just like my little fledgling."
"I told you to quit it with that nickname." I huffed walking into my apartment.
We ended up curled up on my sofa, watching tv. I noticed that Hawks was moving around a lot, playing with his feathers, and mine. "Keigo. You're doing it again." I laughed, realising what he's doing.
"Hmm?" He questioned, turning his head to meet my gaze.
"You're preening." I tried to hold back my laugh. "You're moving around you're feathers. You're even doing it to me." I grinned, pushing him to lay on the sofa, climbing on top of him. I used one hand to pin his wrists above his head, with the other I ran my fingers through the small feathers at the base of his wings.
"Th-that's Not preening Kid." He blushed.
"I know." I smirked, continuing to run my fingers through the feathers at the base of his wings.
The next morning I woke up with a slightly stiff feeling in my muscles and feathers in my disheveled hair. I got out of bed to make myself some breakfast but when I got into the kitchen I saw something I didn't expect. Hawks, in his underwear making breakfast. Normally after our... escapades he would leave by the time i woke up.
I wrapped my arms around him from behind, burying my face in his wings. "This Is a pleasant surprise." I hummed.
"I couldn't bring myself to leave. I saw you asleep with your arm over my wing and I just couldn't leave."
"I'm not complaining." I sighed.
"I love you baby bird and I'm tired of leaving after we do this. I don't want to leave."
"I love you too bird brain." I laughed as he turned around. "Now take that pan off the heat and come back to bed. I'm not finished with you yet."
"Gladly." He smirked.
