"Battle begins in 30 seconds." The Administrators voice rang through the field. I got this. Just get up high and wait. I'm a marksman, trained by Sniper but I specialise in the recurve bow. I look across at me team, we're on the defence today so people like Sniper and I will have important jobs, stopping the opposition from getting too close to our base. I look across at Sniper who gives me a smile and a short nod, I respond in kind. Then my gaze rests on medic, he's doing the same as always, checking through his range of weapons, ensuring he has everything needed for today's battle. He looked up at me and smiled. The two of us have grown close over my time here he walked over, placing a hand on my shoulder, he went to say something when the blast doors opened. "Good luck doctor!" I called back as I sprinted out, I need to get to my vantage point quickly. I set up on top of a rocky outcrop. I can hide behind some boulders and I'm high enough to have a good view. I pulled out my bow and readied myself an arrow. Using a pair of binoculars I could see Sniper in his chosen perch. A small board set up behind me, he looked over and gave me a thumbs up. I looked back at the field and saw a RED spy lurking around, I quickly shot him and placed a mark on my own board. Sniping is a lonely job so we have to keep ourselves amused somehow. Betting on who kills the most REDs is our personal favourite.
Throughout the battle I kept an eye on my team too, watching their backs, but I can't do everything. I was just about to move to a new position when someone tapped my shoulder. I turned to see the RED Scout. "Hey Doll." He smirked before hitting me in the ribs with his bat. I screamed in pain, picking up my bow I swung at him, one edge is razor sharp for such occasion that I need to defend myself in close combat.
Every movement was agony but I'm fighting for my life. Eventually I landed a solid blow to his upper thigh severing the femoral artery, he'll bleed out in seconds. Although when he fell to the ground in pain I decapitated him, Yano, for good measure.
I climbed down from my vantage and made my way back towards the base. I need a medi-kit or to find one of Engineer's health dispensers or even to find Heavy. I won't trouble Medic. He's got important work to do.
However, lo and behold guess who I run into. He too was searching for a medi-kit. "Medic." I stumbled over to him, it becoming more and more difficult to breathe.
"Fräulein!" He grabbed me and lead me to a small alcove. "What happened?"
"Agh! Scout got the drop on me. Managed to off him though." I smiled.
"Here. Let me help you." He pulled out his medi-gun and was about to heal me when I heard someone behind him.
"You're not getting the better of me twice!" That Scout. Medic turned back to me.
"Stay there Fräulein." He ordered and took out his bonesaw.
"Where's the übersaw?" I questioned.
"Left it in the lab. I was working on it." In my opinion it is his best offensive weapon for close quarters combat. He was already pretty beat up and if I didn't do something I knew he wouldn't survive this. As he turned to the scout I looked around. Something has to help. As medic was fighting the scout something fell off his weapon holder on his belt. The crossbow. I hauled my body over to it, pulling the syringe from the barrel. This is going to hurt like a bitch but it should save me, I pushed the needle into a vein in my wrist and pressed the plunger down. It did hurt but I could almost feel my ribs putting themselves together and my lungs filling with air once again. I looked over to the fight before me and it wasn't looking good. Yes the scout was looking worse for ware but the medic was on the ground, bleeding profusely. As the scout was poking fun at the dieing German before him I picked up my bow and crept up behind him once again severing his head from his body. I helped the medic to his feet. "How did you-?" I pulled out the crossbow. He leant himself against the cliff face. "Let me... let me heal you fully." He looked exceptionally light headed, still bleeding out.
"No. I'm fine. Let me help you." I pulled the medi-gun from his hands and turned it round on him, immediately turning it on. The wounds that littered his face and body began to visibly heal. Once back to a safe amount of health he looked at me and smiled.
"Danke. However it is my job to heal you."
"You can't do everything Doctor. You too get hurt." I pulled his arm over my shoulder as our engineer walked past us.
"Well, another success. See y'all back in the base." He smiled. I breathed a sigh of relief and helped the medic back to the base and into med-bay. I sat him on the examination table and removed all the equipment he had on him. I pulled off his ripped and bloody jacket, tossing it to one side. I looked at the cabinet beside the table and pulled out some iodine, cotton balls and bandages, pulling on a pair of gloves I walked back over to Medic.
"I can do this myself you know?" He shrugged.
"I've seen you do this hundreds of times to me, I think I can do this in return once." I smiled, getting him to take off his waistcoat and shirt. He was still fairly beaten up. Predominantly a large gash on the left shoulder. I poured the iodine onto the cotton balls and held medic by his non injured shoulder, like it'd do me any good he's considerably larger and stronger than I am. "Uh. This is probably going to hurt. I'm sorry." As quickly but gently as I could I started cleaning around the wound which was a lot larger than first thought. I could see the pain in medic's face and it was actually hard for me to continue. I didn't want to cause him pain. He turned to look at it.
"That's going to need stitches." He sighed. "I can talk you though it. I can't stitch myself, not there anyway." I nodded. "Needle, thread, needle driver, scissors and tissue forceps." He relayed the list to me. I brought everything over and he guided me through the steps.
Once done I gave it a final wipe of iodine before bandaging the shoulder and upper torso. I treated all the other minor cuts with a quick clean and a couple of gause pads until one remained, a small cut over his eyebrow. "I'm gonna need you to be real still. Don't want this stuff going into your eye." I pulled a q-tip out of a draw and soaked that in the iodine, carefully I removed his cracked glasses and started cleaning the small cut. My free hand resting on the back of his head, keeping both him and myself steady. His piercing icy eyes watching my every move. "Th-there. I uh. I think you're done." I stepped back. Almost reluctantly, handing him a spare pair of glasses. He took my hands, holding them out in front of me.
"You have such steady hands, my mother used to call them doctors hands. So still and precise." He smiled. I stepped back.
"Yeh. It's uh. What makes me a good marksman, the fact that the never shake." He stepped up to me once more.
"Thank you for all of this."
"It's what you would do for me." I shrugged.
"Ja. That is true, but I am a doctor it is my job. You on the other hand could've let me die and go back to respawn." This now felt like more of an interrogation than anything else. "You could've just respawned yourself given a little time you'd have suffocated yourself with a punctured lung. Yet you took it upon yourself to heal yourself and help me. Why?"
"It's what we do. You provide us with health and we protect you. It's the unspoken rule is it not?" I shrugged hoping he'd accept this as an answer.
"Is it though? There are nine of you and one of me. Anyone could've helped if you'd died."
"Fine! You're important to me! That what you wanted to hear?" He looked taken aback.
"Oh. I assumed it would've been over the scout. You trying to beat him." He looked away.
"Yeh, well now you know." I walked to the door, "Well. See ya round Medic." I stepped out and shut the door, a piece inside me hope he'd come running out the doors after me but I knew he wasn't that type of man. He was cold, calculated, he'd never really cared about emotions of his patients or anything so why should I be any different?
As thought he never came nor was he at breakfast. The only time I saw him was when we were getting ready for another battle. We were on the offence today, on a mission to steal their intel. I looked over at Medic who was holding his shoulder. I walked over. "That shoulder giving you grief? Sorry if I didn't do a good job of it."
"Nein. You were fine. Perfect even." He smiled slightly. "Just, don't die, for me. Bitte. I don't know what I'd do without you." He gently patted me atop the head and walked off. Ok. That was odd. I ran after him.
"Hey Medic. I'll try not to die if you tell me what's got you all sentimental."
"You." He shrugged.
"What?"
"You. After what you said, I couldn't sleep for thinking about you. I guess I hadn't realised how often you play on my mind. I too have grown fond of you. I would be devastated should any harm befall you." He explained.
"Well seeing as were on the same page. Dinner? After the battle?" I smiled.
"Ja. I could do that."
"It's a date." I grinned walking out to the battle and jumping up onto a high perch. Keeping an eye out for any opposing team members but also keeping a sharp eye on my doctor, keeping him safe became my new priority.-Jadieelynchx
