I placed my bow on the bar, pointing at the bottle of wine behind the bar. I pulled out a few gold coins, leaving them on the bar and walked to a small secluded table in the corner.
I was enjoying my solitude when someone sat across from me. "Can I help you sir?" I questioned without looking up.
"You just seemed like you could use a companion." He spoke, placing a sword on the table.
"Get your weapon off my table." I looked up to see a man, long black hair, piercing eyes. "And what makes you think that I require a companion?"
"The way people look at you. Fear and admiration. Someone I could get to know." He smirked, propping his sword against the table. "So. Where's a beauty such as yourself from?"
"Far from here. To the west."
"West of here? Those are dangerous lands." He grinned. "How'd you make it this far?"
"I have a variety of skills." I looked down. "Now, please. Allow me my moment of peace. I'm leaving this place at sundown."
"Just two adventurers having a peaceful chat. Nice enough way to pass the time." He sat back in his seat. "Where would you be headed?"
"North. Into the mountains. I have a friend there. A prince, he has a job for me." I finished my drink and stood up. "Now if you'll excuse me." I picked up my bow and left.
Unsurprisingly I was followed out of the tavern. As I mounted my horse I looked down at him, the hood of my cloak falling back off my head.
"You're an elf." He stated. "That would explain the air of mystique around you."
"My heritage is none of your concern." I pulled my hood up again. "This Is where we part ways. Goodbye sellsword." With that I left. Taking off riding to the north.
As I set up camp for the night I couldn't get the feeling out of my head that I was being watched, followed even. I pulled an arrow from my quiver, notching it onto the string of my bow. "Whoever is out there. I suggest you come forward slowly. I wouldn't want to hurt you if your intentions are not malicious."
Out of the shadows strode the man from before. I lowered my bow with a sigh. "You again. How'd you get here?"
"I know a guy who had a spare horse. Reckon that whatever job you're doing could use another pair of hands."
"I'm not like you sellsword. This job is one that requires elvish skill not my combat abilities. It is a healing job." I explained. "The prince's mother she is troubled mentally, he thinks our mental techniques may be able to help quell some of her trauma." I sat back down next to the fire and spread out another blanket. "You can stay the night sellsword, and go back at dawn."
"At least let me escort you there... your highness." He stated. I pulled out a small dagger, tripping him up, sitting across his chest, my dagger to his throat.
"Don't call me that! I turned my back on that family nearly a century ago. How did you know?"
"Look at me. Getting a rise out of an elf, aren't I lucky." He smirked. "Those facial markings. You do well to hide them but they're a tell tail trait of the royal elven family." I stood up looking away. "They never wanted me, my father had his heir. I was a mistake and was always made aware of the fact. I may have been loved by the people but hated by my family, so I left. Never to return. They would've only used me to form an alliance anyway." I pulled another blanket around me, "there. Now you know sellsword. You're travelling with a disgraced royal. Still coming along?"
"Of course." I just sighed.
"Fine. Make yourself useful and take the first watch. Wake me up in a few hours." I laid my head down on my bag.
"I didn't think you elvish slept."
"We don't need as much sleep as you humans. I haven't slept in a week so a few hours should be fine." I mumbled.
That is how the week went as I travelled north. I grew almost accustomed to his company however. I'd never admit it to him but I wouldn't mind if he did tag along after this is over.
"Prince Shoto. A pleasure as always." I bowed with a smile.
"You have no need to bow to me, my friend." His voice as calm as ever. "Come. There is much to discuss." He looked briefly at my travelling companion. "Your letter said you were coming alone. Who is this?"
"A very clingy sellsword. He is of no threat to you or your family. If he does misbehave I will personally see he is disciplined." I promised.
After a day of working with Rei I retired to my guest chambers which I was made to share with Shouta. All I wanted was rest, using this much elven magic gives me a headache, alas it was not to be. "How'd it go?" He questioned, laying on the large bed.
"Adequately. I believe I can help her." I sighed, sitting down, rubbing my temples. "Now please, some peace and quiet. I should meditate for a while. Get rid of this throbbing headache."
I attempted meditation but I continued getting distracted. "Please go somewhere. Your incessant mouth breathing is off putting."
"You want me to stop breathing?" He questioned.
"No. You should go explore or something. And I can feel you watching me."
"Well. You know us humans. Always distracted by something beautiful." I opened my eyes to see him leaning close to me. "How about I treat you the way my mother showed me. I can cure your headache." He smiled.
"Fine. I doubt your human healing techniques will work." I looked away. He stood up, closing the curtains in the room, lighting a candle. He took a wash cloth from the bathroom, wetting it. He came back and placed the cloth on my forehead, pushing me back onto the bed.
"Lay down and relax." He sat above my head, making sure to rest it on his lap. He placed his fingers on my temples, rubbing them slowly.
"I-I didn't think humans knew magic..." I mumbled, feeling the headache fading already.
"We Don't." He whispered. "This Is Just healing with touch."
"We elves usually hate physical contact."
"Yes but this is how we humans deal with headaches, laying, relaxing in a dark room." He continued massaging my temples, "just focus on my voice. Shut out any other sound."
I don't know how long I laid like this but it was the most relaxed I'd been in years, listening to him talk aimlessly, softly, quietly. It was so peaceful. "Feeling better?" I just sighed contently. "I'll take that as a yes." He chuckled, leaning down, gently placing a kiss on my forehead.
"What was that for?" I questioned.
"Surely you know how we humans show affection." He smirked.
"Yes but why? If I'm honest I've been nothing but cold to you."
"You spared me when many other elves would've killed me for the amount of times I've tried your patience. You didn't." He moved so that I was pinned beneath him. "Now, allow me to be a little more human with you." He smirked, leaning down and pressing his lips to mine. I paused momentarily before returning his kiss. I pushed him away lightly.
"You could be a little more human if you like." I smiled, raising an eyebrow.
"It would be my honour, my lady."
