I sat in my chambers moulding my new Shabti when I heard someone walk into my room. I turned to see the Pharaoh. "Oh. My King. Forgive me I did not see you there." I stood up flustered, quickly bowing.
"Don't worry. It's okay. I thought I should come and great Mahad's new student." He looked around my room, noticing that there was nothing there. "Do you have no belongings?" He questioned. His amethyst eyes glinted in the light from my window.
"Oh. No my King. I have just kept them safe." I smiled. I reached my hand out and to anyone else it would look like my hand disappeared in mid air. Seemingly out of no where I pulled a small bag of my belongings. The pharaoh looked completely amazed.
"W-where did that come from?" He asked.
"The Duat. With focus I can reach my hand in there and deposit something to retrieve later. So I can just retrieve my magicians bag when I need to."
"That's amazing. So you've been taught before." He questioned.
"Yeh. I was born into a magicians family. In a secret society known as the Per Ankh. I've been sent here to inform you of the society as you have come of age and become pharaoh."
"The Per Ankh.. The House of Life." He translated.
"Yes. I am also tasked with protecting the pharaoh. The suitable vessel for the god Ra. You have great magic inside you my King. It would be my honour to school you in our ways." I bowed again.
"I would love to be schooled by you." He smiled. "To learn the ways of the gods." He stepped forward again. He was very handsome. A young man, in regal dress, adorned with gold and jewels.
"Gladly. When shall we begin?" I asked.
"Now."

"Wow. You've really improved. Your skill and technique is perfect." I congratulated as he completed another spell. "Most magicians take years to master that. You've done it in a matter of months." I spoke smiling and hanging an arm around the young Pharaoh. I immediately stopped and stepped back. "Sorry my King. I don't know what came over me." I bowed stepping back further. He stepped forward to me.
"It's okay, I understand you were proud. You can hug me you know. We are friends aren't we." He blushed slightly. Gods he was so handsome. Deep amethyst eyes shining in the candle light, his face so well sculpted, he was no longer dressed in his regal clothes, he was in simple white linen clothes as it allows the magic to flow better within you.
"Y-yes we are." I answered looking away. Damn you. You shouldn't think like that. You are his sworn protector. Nothing else. I thought.
"If you could change one thing in Egypt what would it be? He asked.
"I don't have any views, I only study the gods and their will. What actually goes on in this country is of little importance to me and my practice. Anyway. I'm just a magician's assistant. My word means nothing."
"But if you were sent by this secret magicians thing to protect me you must be of higher skill than Mahad."
"Yeh but I was only placed here as his apprentice to avoid drawing attention to myself as your protector." I explained. "I must walk in your shadow, never noticed, never seen, only there watching over you. So as I said my views mean nothing."
"But can't we be friends?" He asked.
"We are friends aren't we not. But that is all."
A few months later.
I was working on some summoning spells. Primarily Jackals, as the God I chose to focus on was Anubis. I carry an amulet through which I can channel the power of the god, I can use this in battle to summon creatures or to simply use the power in combat. Recently I have taken to keeping a young Jackal with me as I have found it easier to summon more if I have a "minion" of Anubis with me.
I digress. As I was practicing some summoning the young pharaoh walked into my room. "Sorry. No lessons today." I spoke, focusing on my spell. I stopped halfway through, I couldn't deal with him staring over my shoulder. "Yes my King. What can I do for you?" Today he looked almost nervous. Not his usual confident, charismatic self.
"You could stop being my guard and start being my equal." He stated. "I really like you Y/N. You have taught me magic, you have been a friend and a protector. Any man would be a fool not to fall for a girl like you, and I have." I didn't know what to say. I can't turn away from my teachings of the gods. I was about to answer when my young Jackal nudged the back of my legs, causing me to fall forwards into the young king's arms. I looked back and the jackal just tilted its head to the side. 'You do not have to stand behind the throne to protect the one who sits upon it.' A strong voice rang through my ears. Thank you, Anubis.
"Okay."
"What?" He was surprised at my response. That I actually agreed to it.
"I said okay. Truth be told I've kinda liked you since we met but I always thought my job kept me from being close to you. But I guess it's made me closer to you than some other people." He pulled me into a hug. I wasn't quite sure if I was allowed to hug him back, he WAS the pharaoh after all. But something inside me took over, I gave into my desires and hugged back. I fell for him. I fell quite a while back, but now, now I feel free. Not from my responsibility as a protector but from the secrets. This is the start of something great. I just know it.
