I stood before the team at fire force 8, I could feel them judging me, watching my every move. "I am Y/N. Exorcist, first class, Knight, Tamer and Dragoon. Doctor in training. I have been sent by the True cross to work with you all, to form an alliance between our churches."
"Ha. You think you're a knight?" A young blond lad laughed. "Come on then. Show me." He pulled out a sword with no blade.
"Third gen pyrokinetic? Let's see what you've got." I smirked, my hand grazing over the handle of my katana that hung at my waist.
"Arthur. Don't bother, you'll only embarrass yourself." Spoke the only voice I knew here. Takehisa Hinawa. "You don't know what you're getting yourself into." He sighed, pushing his glasses up his nose.
"That sword can't withstand pure plasma." The lad, Arthur, laughed, using his pyrokenisis to form a plasma blade.
"That's no ordinary blade." Takehisa warned. I drew the white blade and beckoned Arthur to attack. "It's... possessed..." he muttered but no one paid any attention. I nicked my finger on the blade, running the blood along the length of the blade, it briefly glowing blue, before I swung the sword. The blade sliced effortlessly through his plasma one snuffing out the flame immediately leaving the entire handle covered in water. I placed the tip of my blade under his chin.
"Wha- how?" He looked amazed at his bladeless sword.
"I tried to warn you." Takehisa spoke, walking over tapping the side of my sword which I quickly sheathed. "Her blade is possessed. She allowed a demon to possess her sword in order to increase its power. Have you never read up about exorcists?"
"Luckily for you it's a water demon. The kraken." I smiled smugly. "Anyway. We both ultimately have the same goal, rid this world of demons, we exorcists believe your infernals are just extreme possessions, we don't know why but we all agree that it needs to stop. There are demons all around us at all times and if you can see them it could help you with fighting and finding infernals before they even appear. Before these people get possessed."
"How can we get to see these demons?" The kid everyone refers to as 'the devil' asked.
"You receive a temptaint." Takehisa answered, standing behind me, "it isn't a pleasant experience and it could kill you but we believe it's a necessary evil. Any theory that could get us closer to solving all of this is worth the risk." He placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I can guarantee I have overseen many temptaint rituals. I am a tamer so use my familiar to conduct these. A bakkayo pair I aptly named Ran and Shaw." I smiled, "they were ancient fire spirits. Never mind. When they scratch you, you will be able to both see them and other demons. This will last for the rest of your life. You can choose to back out now if you wish." I was met with no reply.
"Lieutenant. Why are you not taking part?" The young nun questioned.
"I have already received mine. We knew each other when we were children. She was trying to show me her familiars when we were young and one caught me. I've seen demons ever since and have had to be in regular contact with the exorcists because of this." Takehisa explained.
A few hours later I laid down on my bed, tired from my travels and completing the temptaint ritual. I was close to falling asleep when I felt a presence leaning over my bed. I opened my eyes to see Maki staring over me. "Wha-what are you doing?" I jumped, sitting up, smacking our foreheads together. "Ow!" I exclaimed. "What do you want?" I asked, rubbing my head.
"You and the Lieutenant? You seem close." She smiled, also rubbing her forehead.
"We knew each other as kids." I shrugged, thankfully she couldn't see me blushing in the dark.
"Yeh and I knew him in the army and he never mentioned you." She stated.
"He couldn't. I'm an exorcist we have to remain hidden." I yawned, "Can I go back to sleep now?"
"Fine. But I think you're hiding something." She huffed.
"I'm an exorcist. We hide everything." I mumbled rolling over.
A few hours passed and I couldn't resettle. I got up and walked down the corridor until I came to a door labelled "lt. Hinawa." I quietly turned the handle and crept in. "Takehisa?" I mumbled.
"Trouble sleeping? Or Maki?" His voice was tired but had a hint of amusement in it.
"Bit of Both really." I laughed. "She was questioning me about us."
"What did you say?"
"That We were childhood friends." I sighed sitting on his bed. "Would it really be that bad if people found out?" I groaned, laying next to him.
"Yes. It is against policy to date within a company. It would incline me to save you in a situation as opposed to someone like Iris or Maki."
"Are you saying that we can't?" I sat up again.
"No." He placed a tired hand on my shoulder hinting for me to lay down again. "I'm simply saying we should keep quiet about it."
"Never thought I'd see the day that Takehisa Hinawa would break rules. And for little old me." I smiled.
"Hm." He laughed, "its worth it." He wrapped an arm around me, kissing my forehead. "Now go to sleep."
I quickly fell asleep but we were woken up by the station alarm at around 5:30am. We both leapt out of bed and ran out of the room, quickly getting dressed and into the matchbox.
Once the infernal had been put to rest we returned to the station. I walked down the corridor and into Hinawa's room, throwing my uniform onto the floor and climbing into his bed, falling asleep instantly. I woke up with my head in Hinawa's lap and his hand in my hair. "You're awake."
"I am now." I yawned.
"Everyone saw you come in here."
"And? I'm new and tired. I could've fallen asleep anywhere." I smiled, turning over to face him. He took off his glasses, rubbing his clearly tired eyes. "You've been reading reports this whole time?" He simply nodded in response. "Come on. A nap won't harm anyone." I smiled, moving so that I was now at eye level with him. I leant down closing the gap between us. He reciprocated the kiss surprisingly quickly, his hands pushing up my top slightly only to rest on the exposed skin. Impatiently I pulled the material off over my head. Urging him to do the same Hinawa also rid himself of his shirt.
We shared precious minutes like this until the alarm went off once again. We parted, panting for air, our foreheads resting on each other. "Ha." I laughed, biting my lip. "These infernals sure know how to pick their moment." I managed to coax a laugh from the Lieutenant with my statement.
"I'm sure we'll find an opportune moment to finish this soon." He smiled, pulling on his shirt and throwing me my discarded uniform on the floor. "Let's go." As we opened the door captain Obi ran past.
"Look alive love birds. We have a job to do." He said in passing, a smile on his face. I just glanced at Hinawa before smiling and following the captain. Looks like I'll enjoy my time here after all.
