"Y/N L/N. Photographer. I'm here to photograph the finals." I stated flashing my 'press' badge.
"Yes. This way miss." He lead me to the edge of the rink where I set up my camera. In all honesty I was only really here for one skater, like many of the women here, Viktor Nikiforov.
When it came time for Viktor to skate the crowd erupted but as soon as he took his start position everything went silent. I took as many photos as I could, trying to capture his grace and passion. It was truly beautiful. When it was over I walked towards the halfway point round the rink in order to get a clear shot at the podium. As I was walking I fiddled with my camera accidentally dropping the batteries everywhere. One of which fell onto the ice, just as I was about to grab it another hand picked it up for me. "I believe this belongs to you yes?" A soft Russian accent spoke to me. I looked up and there he was, Viktor Nikiforov himself.
"Y-yeh. I'm ever so sorry mr Nikiforov sir. Thank you so much." I took the batted and stepped out of his way so he could get off the rink. This is my one chance for a word with him. Do it for the paper come on Y/N! "M-may I have a word mr Nikiforov? For my university newspaper?" I asked holding my dictaphone out to him at arms length.
"Why of course, 0, 7, 1, 2..." He continued a list of seven more numbers to complete an 11 number phone number. "That was just for you. Now. Your paper... What would you like to know my dear?" He asked moving closer to me his beautiful blue eyes staring into mine.
"W-what are your plans f-for the future?"
"I know I cannot skate for much longer but I guess I could give coaching a go." He smiled shrugging. "I don't really know, I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there." He took my chin lightly in his hand. "What about you vozlyublennaya? What do you want to do?"
"Oh. Well.. I uh, I want to go into professional photography. But that's no where near as important as your future."
"No. Your dreams are just as important and with hard work and dedication you can make them come true." He spoke still smiling at me, loose strands of his hair brushing against my face due to how close we had become.
"Teach me to skate, that is also a dream of mine. To be taught by a true master." I blurted out.
"Well then, maybe one day that'll happen." He said placing a hand atop my head. "Now, if you'll excuse me." He stepped back onto the ice and over to the podium, I quickly held my camera to my face, peering down the lens. Just as I was about to take a photo Viktor looked over and flashed me a smile and a wink, just as I took the picture.
All the skaters left the rink and I packed up for the day, I went home, downloaded all my photos and started on my article.
After finishing I went straight to bed. The next morning I turned in my article and went back to the nearest ice rink. "No public skating today miss, we have vip's training today." The receptionist spoke. I pulled out my camera and uni card.
"Press. Photography for the university paper." She looked at me through half closed eyes.
"Fine. No disturbing the skaters."
"No flash. Got it." I smiled walking past her into the seating area around the rink. I looked at the people skating. Most of which I didn't know, one did catch my eye. Viktor. I placed the viewing lens against my eye and zoomed in on him, he looked up, smiling at me again. He gestured for me to come down to the edge of the rink. I walked down towards him.
"Well if it isn't my little photographer." He smiled. "Here for me to teach you?"
"I was just here to take photographs Mr Nikiforov sir."
"You may as well join me now. It'll be much more fun."
"But I'm not allowed. It's professionals only."
"I say you can. Hey! Yuri can you grab some skates for my young friend here."
"Sure.. What size?"
"Oh uh.. 6 please." He hurried off and brought back a pair of skates, I was about to pull them on when Viktor took them from me and helped me into them and tied the laces. He took my hands and helped me onto the ice. I looked down at my feet, he placed a finger under my chin, making me look at him.
"Don't take your eyes off me." He started skating backwards, "push with your feet." I did as he asked.
As I got more confident I let go of one hand. He pulled me closer and into a dance like hold. We slowly danced around the rink. "You're doing well. How about we go out once I've finished training my little pork cutlet bowl over there? Just you and I. Da?" I smiled and nodded. "I would also love to see your photos."
"Sure. I mean most of them are of you but I got some great shots of Yuri, and Yurio, and Chris oh and Pritchett and-" he placed a single finger over my lips.
"Calm down my dear. You talk a lot when you're nervous. It's okay. I won't bite."
"I-I should leave you to your training." I broke free from his hold and skated to the edge with Viktor in pursuit. "I'll uh meet you at the coffee shop down the road yeh?" I asked taking off the skates.
"Yeh. Dasvidaniya" he spoke, kissing my cheek.
Am I going on a date with Viktor Nikiforov?
