I awoke to my hands tied behind my back, my ankles shackled to a chain, in the dark and to top it all off I felt nauseous as hell like the world around me was rocking. I could hear other people moving around me. A young girl came over to me. "You're awake. We thought you wouldn't make it." She spoke kneeling next to me. She touched my forehead causing pain to serge through my entire head.
"Where am I?" I asked sitting up more.
"You're on a ship. Our village was attacked by pirates and we were taken. Only young women. So I'm pretty sure what we are going to be used for." She spoke solemnly.
As I was about to ask her name the door swung open and blinding sunlight pored in. A load of men came in grabbing all of us and pulling us onto the deck of the ship.  All of the men aboard were dressed poorly, ripped shirts and trousers. A ship of ruffians. They were all loud and rowdy until a relatively short man, dressed in fine clothes, red and white with an extravagant hat, perfectly polished buttons and well shined shoes. He scanned over all of us. His eyes shining like emeralds, he scanned us all then his eyes tested back on me.
"That one." He pointed at me. The man holding me looked from me to the man and back.
"But Captain. This one is damaged. She is not likely to make it through our journey."
"Are you questioning me?" The captain asked.
"No sir." The man responded lowering his head. He followed the captain pulling me with him. He opened a door and pushed me in. I just sat on the hard wooden floor, cowering in the corner. The captain picked me up by my top and pulled a knife from his belt. I looked away. I never dreamt I would die like this but now I have no choice. I braced for the pain that never came. I felt the ropes fall at my feet. He took hold of my face by the chin. Examining my face.
"Nice eyes, smooth skin. You'll need a little patching up first." He spoke noticing my red and purple forehead. "I am Captain Arthur Kirkland. I own this ship. And I own you. You are to call me captain or sir. Do you understand me?" I nodded. I was too scared to say anything. "Good." He walked me over to a rather large bed. "Sit down. Don't move." I nodded again and sat down.
Looking around the room, it was pretty well decorated. The one odd thing I found was a pile of neatly folded flags on top of a chest of drawers. Some I recognised from foreign ships that would sail past my home village. A Spanish one. A French one. An Italian one. They must be trophies from all of the ships he's taken and defeated.
I was snapped out of my thoughts by the door opening he walked in holding bandages and a bowl of water. He walked over to me and knelt down in front of me. He brushed hair away from my face, wet a piece of cloth and held it to my forehead. "Those oafs. I told them to bring me girls unharmed." He muttered as he gently dabbed the cool, soothing fabric to my head. "You will be treated well, I want you to want to stay. But if you disobey me, you will be punished. I am a just man, but I enforce loyalty, respect and obedience."

-2 months later-

"Y/N! My quarters now!" The captain shouted, I came down from climbing the rigging and walked into his quarters.
"What can I do for you sir?" I spoke smiling, walking into his quarters. I sat on the chair next to his bed where I was always told to sit. He sat on his bed, facing me. Carefully he removed the bandage from around my head.
"You've healed well." he said as he discarded the bandage in a bin beside his desk. "You'd never know that those imbecilic subordinates had ever hurt you." 'hurt' that is the first time he had ever referred to me as hurt rather than damaged, as if I was something more than just a possession. He gently held my face in his hands. he walked over to a chest of drawers, the one upon which sat the flags. He pulled out a small, white night dress. "here, take this. You will stay with me from now on, instead of the living quarters with the other girls. You are to stay by my side at all times unless I say you can do otherwise. At the next port we will find you something more appropriate to wear while living and working on a ship."
"Is there anything else or will that be all sir?" I asked standing up.
"No, get any belongings that you may have brought with you and come back here." I nodded and walked back to where the rest of the girls slept. I was pulled aside by the girl who first spoke to me, Elisabetta.
"You're okay! I hardly ever see you. You're always working on deck, and then you come back late. Where have you been?"
"I have been with the captain. I'm his." I spoke picking up my old jacket. My brother's pendant falling out of the pocket. I bent down and picked up the cross, hanging it around my neck. (Yes I know there was no iron cross in this time period, but just go with me. I needed something other than an accent to mark her as German.) "I'm no longer allowed to stay here with you. The captain says I am to stay with him." I pulled on the jacket. "I'll come back and see you when I get the chance. Promise." She pulled me into a hug.
"You be safe. Stay alive." I nodded and walked back above deck and to the captain's quarters. I knocked on the door.
"Enter." I walked in.
"Captain. I have my things." He turned to look at me.
"That is nothing but a coat." He sounded almost shocked.
"It was all I was wearing when I found my brother dead, with one of YOUR men's knives embedded in his chest. I had the time to grab this!" I shouted gesturing the pendant around my neck, "from his lifeless body before one of your men dragged me off him! I fought back and he knocked me out. And now I'm here. Owned by some captain." I cried, tears forming in my eyes. He looked shocked at my emotional outburst. "Well?!" He walked out, furious.
"Who ordered the attack on the village?!" I heard him shout at the crew. "My orders were to scare the villagers and take the women, allowing them to take what they wanted!"
"But the men, they fought." The man who took me spoke. I knew that voice. I heard more shouting and then a splash and silence. It was a few moments before the captain walked in. I looked up at him, blood dripping from his nose.
"Captain." I reached up to him, only to have him seat my hand away. For a moment I sunk back but I took a knife from the desk, cutting off the bottom of the ragged top the captain had given me to wear temporarily. "Captain please. You are hurt. Let me help. It's the least I can do." He sat down. I put the material over his nose until the bleeding ceased.
"Many thanks Y/N." He looked at me, a smirk on his face. "Now. For what I asked you here for." He pulled me closer then pushed me onto his soft bed. "You. You Y/N will be mine. In this room you obey my every command, to the letter, without hesitation. Do you understand me?"
"Ja. Herr Kirkland." I accidentally spoke in my native tongue.
"What?" He asked, confused but still with a smirk on his face.
"It basically means how you'd say Yes Mr Kirkland. My apologies." I looked away.
"I liked it. Something incredibly attractive about it." He spoke leaning down, closer and closer to me. I now understood what he called me in here for today.
"Mein Herr vergib mir bitte." I muttered as his lips attached to my neck. "Das ist Sünde." As he kissed my neck, his hand trailed up my inner thigh. I shouldn't do this, this is wrong. But heaven only knows what he will do to me if I say no. I tried to wriggle free but he only grabbed my waist, keeping me in place. Looks like I have no choice in this.
When it was over, he shortly after fell asleep. I pulled the sheets over my clotheless body. He has taken away what was left of my innocence and purity. I climbed out and pulled the white night dress on and sat on the chair at his desk looking into the small mirror. My other brother, Gilbert, he was a naval captain. I wonder if he'll save me.
I swept my long blonde hair out of my face and braiding it, tying it with a piece of ribbon that had fallen off of one of his hats.
I pulled out the pile of flags. One of them caught my eye. White and black, a black eagle upon it. If these came from ships he'd taken. Then that would mean... I pulled out the flag, hung it around my shoulders, and cried. I curled up on the floor and cried.
I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Why are you crying? What are you doing with this old thing?" He tried pulling the flag away from me but I kept a tight hold, standing up, pushing him to the ground, picking the knife up from the desk and holding it to his throat.
"Captain Gilbert Bielschmidt?! What happened to him?!" I screamed in his face.
"Who?" He looked both confused and scared.
"Gilbert Bielschmidt. The one you took this from!" I held up the flag. "Your height, white hair, red eyes! Not an image you can easily forget! Where is he!"
"Cast adrift in a reserve boat. God knows where he is now." I got up and allowed him up, keeping the flag wrapped around my body. "We arrive in Nordenham tomorrow. I require you to speak to the stall holders for me for my supplies."
"Mein Bruder." I muttered. "I'll leave. You and your men have taken both brothers from me. First Gilbert. Then Ludwig."
"You cannot leave." He grabbed my wrist. "The way the albino was travelling when we set him adrift. He'd likely be in Portsmouth by now. If I can find him will you stay with me?"
"Maybe." Why would he care if I stayed or not. "But why does it matter? You have plenty of women on here for you to do as you please with."
"But you have peaked my interest. You are one I want to keep forever." He smiled. But this wasn't the lust filled smirk of before. This was soft.
"Forever?"
"Yes. How do you people say that you love someone?" He asked.
"Ich liebe dich." I answered. "Why?"
"I wanted to know." He took my hand. "You may keep the Prussian's flag. But come back to bed. It is not long until dawn. And until we arrive at our dock. And I desire a repeat of earlier." He smirked, pulling me back to his bed, placing the flag and the light bed garment over his chair.

-time skip-

As we left the port of Nordenham I was once again taken to the captain's quarters. In the Prussian port I was permitted to buy clothes so I felt more comfortable. Once again the actions of the previous night were repeated, only this time it was different. He was careful, slower. The other two times I could feel his want and hunger. This time, there was none of that. No taking my hair in his fists and pulling my head back, no more fingertip bruises on my hips and no harsh biting on my neck and collar bone. This was slow, caring. His emerald eyes locking with mine. This time I actually enjoyed it. As sinful as that is.
As we laid together in his bed he spun a lock of my hair around his finger. "Yesterday I said I wanted you to belong to me forever. I have learnt that you have a wild spirit inside you. I cannot take that. But I can only harness it and run with it. Which is why I want you to marry me. Be my equal." I took a moment to process what he said. I was about to reply when a small yellow bird flew in and sat on the ledge of the open port hole.
It can't be.

I'm gonna leave this to be continued. Didn't expect to get this into this story.
