"You know. It's been a long day. I just can't wait to see my boyfriend, have a bath and go to bed." I groaned down the phone to my friend Ochako. "That villain really did a number on me today. I am gonna have bruises tomorrow."
"You deserve a rest today." She replied. "Make sure that bird brain treats you right tonight." She laughed.
"Just the thought of a big cuddle in all those feathers. Ugh. Can't wait." I smiled like a lovesick schoolgirl, putting my keys into the lock and opening the door.
When I opened the door I was met with a somewhat familiar sound of Keigo's moans. "I Uh. I gotta go Ochako. I'll see you soon." I laughed slightly.
"Have a good time you two." She giggled. I hung up and opened our bedroom door.
"Keigo. What have I told you about touching yourself when I'm at wo-" I stopped as I saw the one thing I always secretly feared. What made it worse was the girl he was on top of. One of the girls I used to be friends with at my old restaurant job.
"Kid it-"
"Don't give me that!" I yelled back. "I offer to help you! Give you ONE day off! Run YOUR agency for you for the day, so you can sleep and relax like you deserve! I put my life on the line against a villain alone and THIS is how you repay me?!" I pulled the chain from around my neck. "Obviously I won't be needing this." I cried, holding the red feather on the chain in my hand, using my fire quirk to ignite it. I dropped the Now empty chain and a handful of ashes in front of him. "Goodbye Keigo. Have fun." I turned on my heels and left.
I ran home. The large gates opened immediately and I went straight to the old training room. I had to get out my anger, i was furious. I set everything in there on fire, the one time I was glad of my father's quirk.
Suddenly the room went cold, I looked up to see my mother standing in the doorway, her hand on the wall, freezing everything and extinguishing my flames.
"Mother. Come on we need to get you back to the-" Fuyumi came running round the corner, "y/n?" She questioned as I cried into my mother's shoulder.
"He did it. He actually cheated." I sobbed.
"It's okay sweetie." My mother cooed, taking my hands in her cold ones. The skin in the palms of my hands burning.
"You know your fire can get too hot. Please. Calm down." My sister whispered, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"Can I stay here for a while? Until I can get another place. I'll come and work for Dad. I can't go back to that agency."
"You know you're always welcome here." Fuyumi states pulling me into a hug. "You can borrow some of my clothes, Natsuo is in the lounge. Why don't you go see him?" She smiled and took my hand. "It will be okay."
The next morning I pulled on my suit, picked up my letter of resignation and walked to Keigo's agency building. I entered the office and stood in front of his desk. "Kid I-" I held up my hand to stop him in his tracks.
"Pro hero Hawks. I hereby resign from your agency, effective immediately. I have found another job at another agency. Anything that was discussed at any time will remain between us and shall not be disclosed at any point. I wish you all the best in your future." I bowed and placed the letter on his desk before walking out.
Once home I checked myself over in the mirror, noticing a small feather in my crimson hair. I pulled it out, balling it in my fist, igniting it once again, tears streaming down my face. I know he feels every one of his feathers, the idea that I cause him pain hurts me but I can't let him get to me after he did that.
2 years later.
"Thanks for helping out guys." I spoke to my two interns from UA. "You're doing a great job. We'll grab some food on patrol." I smiled.
Since splitting from Hawks and joining my father's agency, I was able to set up my own. I even got two interns this year.
I lead the pair into a great ramen place I actually found with Hawks but they do the best Shirodashi in town.
I sat at a table and just talked to my interns about hero work until a familiar voice grabbed my attention. "Y/n?" I looked up at Keigo stood over me. I stood up and turned to my interns.
"Please excuse me. Just put it on my tab." I stepped outside followed by Keigo. "What can I do for you Hawks? Is there a job you need help with?"
"Don't call me that kid." He looked away. "I have a name. Please use it."
"If this is about my formality then I'll be on my way." I turned to walk away but he grabbed my wrist. "You have three seconds to take your hand off me before I burn it off." He quickly let go.
"You've done so well Kid. Your own agency, a place in the top 20 heroes. Was I holding you back that much?" He looked away.
"Can't change the past I guess." I turned to face him and caught the feather about to slip into my hair. "Quit it with these! You think a couple of downy feathers will change the fact you fucked an old friend of mine?!" I turned the beautiful feather to ash. He winced a little. "Hurts doesn't it? So did having my heart ripped out."
"It was a mistake kid. I regretted it immediately. As soon as I saw you, I knew what I'd done. I knew I'd lost the one good thing in my life."
"You obviously didn't realise soon enough Hawks because you still did it. Any time I so much as looked at another guy I felt bad because I had you."
"You didn't have eyes for that kid who worked with Fatgum?" He questioned with a scowl.
"Tamaki? I grew up with the guy. He is a good friend. I met him a lot because I always wanted to help him with his anxiety. No. I'd never do that. I couldn't. I loved you too much for that Keigo." I cried, pushing him against the wall of the alleyway. "I wanted to be with you forever. I know you'd never make the first move so goddamn it I would've asked you to marry me!" I sobbed resting my head to his chest. "You lost that possibility." I continued crying, "yet I can't bring myself to see anyone else." I sighed, "you're the only man I love Keigo."
"Please. Let me try again." I felt his arms wrap around me. "I'm sorry. I truly am. I haven't seen anyone else in two years, since you walked out my world has been empty."
"As has mine." I stepped back and looked him in the eye. "One chance. You fuck up again and I'm gone."
From his pocket he produced the empty chain, hanging it around my neck and plucking a feather. He handed it to me and I placed it into the small clasp, allowing it to hang around my neck. He visibly relaxed.
"You know why I like you wearing this?" He played with the chain. I shook my head. "So I can feel your heartbeat. So I know you're still there. Still with me. Not feeling that was unbearable."
"Keigo." I sighed, placing my hand on the side of his face, him leaning into my touch.
"I'm sorry Kid." He mumbled, kissing my hand, pulling me closer to him. "I really am."
"Shut up Keigo." I smiled, pulling him into a kiss. He immediately returned my kiss, holding me round my waist with one hand and the other resting on the back of my neck, enveloping me in his wings. I pulled back for a second, "you always did talk too much." I laughed before kissing him again, running my fingers through the soft downy feathers at the base of his wings. He pulled away.
"N-not here kid." He groaned.
"I take it you know where my apartment is?" I smirked, he nodded. "I'll leave a window open for you. I have lunch to eat and a patrol to finish. I'll see you later bird boy." I smirked taking the feather on my pendant, kissing it gently, causing Keigo to blush. "I'll see you soon."
"See you soon, kid."
