New school. New nome. Well. This'll be fun. I portaled into the 234th nome in Tokyo and from there I travelled to Domino city. I must have looked a little strange walking around in my magicians clothes. Head to toe in white linen. Originally I am from the 9th nome in London but have spent a good majority of my life in the 1st nome in Egypt so I'm tanned and naturally have dark hair. Every bit your young Egyptian woman.
I was met by a teacher who handed me a uniform to wear from now on and showed me to my new classroom.
As I walked in I subconsciously lowered my eyes slightly into the duat. Everything was normal, except this one kid, he was giving off some strange aura. It was bright gold. I lowered my gaze further into the duat and behind the boy stood a young man, looking the same as the boy only older and more mature. I pulled myself from the duat to see if he was actually standing there but by then he was gone.
I must've been staring because they were all now watching me. I wandered to an empty table and sat down, pulling a book from my bag and sat to read while waiting for a teacher. I hadn't noticed the boy stood behind me until he spoke. "Aren't those hieroglyphics?" He asked peering over my shoulder.
"Uh. Yeah. I've been schooled in Egypt for a lot of my life so reading them is second nature now." I laughed nervously.
"I swear they don't use that any more though." He looked at me confused.
"No but I was studying the Egyptians so need to read hieroglyphics."
"Oh. Okay." He thought momentarily. "Say, you couldn't come and translate a tablet for me could you? Perhaps after school?"
"Uh. Okay. Sure."
"Great! Meet me at the front gates at the end of the day." Before I could ask him what his name was the teacher entered and class began.
At the end of the day I waited at the gates until someone tapped me on  the shoulder. I spun around to see the boy, but it wasn't him. He was slightly taller, his face better shaped, his eyes more set. Again I dipped my vision into the duat and there, within this gold aura was the young boy. The two must switch places between our world and the duat. I looked up at the guy before me and around him, like a hologram, was ancient Egyptian robes, deep blue, white and gold. He looked like... no. He couldn't be. I raised my sight again and greeted him. "Hey. I'm Y/N. I never did catch your name before."
"My friends just call me Yami." We walked to the museum and chatted. He said how he was super interested in the Egyptian culture and that's why he wanted to know what this tablet meant but for some reason that felt like a lie. Call it a sixth sense. Or call it a cat goddess inside my head who's great at judging people. When we got to the exhibit the whole place was empty. I looked over the tablet and read what I could.
"Basically, this pharaoh was challenged by his priest, who's name is... Set. They fought with these creatures sealed away in stone tablets. I believe that the pharaoh was victorious judging by the markings down at the bottom but I can't see his name it's been scratched away." I paused thinking for a moment. "I have an idea." I pressed my hand to the glass surrounding the tablet. "Ha-di." The glass shattered leaving the tablet in one piece. Unfortunately the shattering sound alerted the security guards.
"Miss. Step away from the tablet."
"Sorry about this..." I extended my had towards the guards "hu-ai!" The guards instantly fell onto their backs and couldn't get up.
"What on Earth was that?! How did you do that?"
"Magic." I placed my hand on the tablet. Gods I hope this works. "Hi-nehm." The hieroglyph for 're-construct' glowed in front of the tablet as the etched away name became more and more visible. Yami peered over my shoulder at it. "Atem." I read.
"That's my name." He muttered to himself. It was like he'd heard it a thousand times yet it was a new word to him. I spun around to face him.
"Heqat." I summoned my staff and faced him in a ready stance. However, when I looked at him he was in full Egyptian regal dress. "What the?..." I hesitated for a moment staring at him. "Who the hell are you?! How is it you and the boy switch places between here and the duat?!"
"My name is Atem. I am the spirit of a pharaoh locked in this millennium item." He held up an upside down pyramid on a chain around his neck. "And what?"
"The young boy. He's in the duat. I can see when I look down into it." He still looked confused. "The duat is like another realm, the one of the gods, it overlaps our world, with training magicians like myself can lower our vision into the duat mainly to look for the presence of gods or to find a being who could be the eye of a god. For example I am the eye of Bast. In times of need and danger I can channel her power and use it as my own, we work together. By looking into the duat I can see your young friend stood next to you." He looked shocked.
"I didn't even know such a place existed."
"Some pharaoh you were then. Everyone knew of the duat. You would've been the eye of Ra himself. With your current appearance and that stone tablet I have no reason not to believe you." I knelt down in front of him. "I pledge my allegiance to you, pharaoh." He took my hand and pulled me to stand.
"Here I am no longer a king. I know for a fact now that I know my own name that people will come looking for me. People I wish to keep away, my name is the key to my memories and my power so..." He looked away.
"Then how about this..." I took a multi tool from my bag and scratched away the name again.
"People will still know I know my name."
"Then I'll teach you how to use your magic. You're radiating the stuff like nobody's business. You should be easy to teach with that much potential."
"I would love that." He smiled. We walked to the door and I snapped my fingers releasing the guards who staggered back to their feet. I took Atem by the hand.
"Run."
