Derek and Y/N went to high school together. In fact, that's how they met and became best friends. They had almost all the same classes all four years and they were inseparable. When Y/N left for college, Derek took it the hardest. He had lost so much while they were in high school, his family, his house, and his girlfriend, Paige, and he hated that he was also losing Y/N. Except, Y/N made sure nothing would change between the two. They called each other every day and sent random text messages whenever they had the chance. They even scheduled weekly video chats.

One night during the holiday break, Y/N got into a terrible car accident just before she was supposed to meet Derek at his loft to celebrate Christmas together and do their usual Christmas traditions. The doctors did everything they could to save her, but they told Derek it was a matter of time before her body would give up. Derek couldn't accept that and against all his wishes, he bit her. She never knew about Derek's secret as he kept it from her to protect her.

When Y/N woke up a couple of days later, she remembered everything and was shocked when her doctor told her it was miracle she came back. She couldn't understand how she survived until Derek told her the truth. She wasn't mad at him for hiding his secret from her for years. She understood why he did it. If anything, she was grateful he saved her life. Except tonight she was about to experience her first full moon and Derek had a feeling she wouldn't be so grateful about being a werewolf knowing the pain she's about to take on.

Y/N squeezed her eyes shut as her muscles began to tighten. The pain wasn't unbearable but it wasn't tolerable either. She had no control of the pain and she knew it was because of the full moon.

"Derek," she panted. "You need to hurry." She groaned as beads of sweat started forming on her forehead.

She closed her eyes for a quick second and then focused on Derek, who was tying the chains against a bolted steel chair. She noticed he wasn't struggling with the shift. He was calm, his heartbeat was steady, and he didn't seem at all fazed by the full moon. "How do you not feel this?"

Without looking from his hands and the chain, he answered her question. "I feel every second of it," his voice was even, not a hint of struggle with his shift.

Y/N felt her blood boil in her veins and her bones rattling, ready to shift. She tried to push back the pain but failed when a grunt slipped between her clenched jaw, "How is that possible?" This time she made a small whimpering sound before asking, "How do you control it?"

Derek finished tying up the chain on her left ankle and moved over to her right ankle. "Find an anchor. Something meaningful to you." His beautiful green eyes shifted to her for a second, "Bind yourself to it. It keeps the human side in control."

Derek quickly finished up tying the chain on her right ankle. Y/N's eyes followed his movements as he reached in for another chain from a black duffle bag next to him. "What is it for you?"

Derek grabbed both of Y/N's wrists with one hand, as his other hand began wrapping her wrists together up on a railing above her. "Anger. But it doesn't have to be that for everybody."

Derek took a quick look at his finished handy work. He tugged on it to make sure it was secured tightly. "I think you'll be okay now."

Y/N closed her eyes. Her breathing became heavier, almost rigid like, as her chest rose up and immediately fell down. Her claws were making an appearance. She curled her hands, the sharp nails instantly piercing her skin as blood dripped down her arms.

She felt her teeth shifting. Her gums were in pain as her canine teeth slowly slipped out from the top of her gums, making the pain more unbearable. She let out a loud yell, her throat burning in the process.
