We climbed up on the shack roof that Lapis normally hangs out on. The sun was setting when we got there and it eventually became dark, and stars began to peek through the clouds little by little - it was beautiful. Lapis played a surprisingly soothing song called 'Call Me' by 90sflav. Now, I know she doesn't think of it as anything special, but to be a honest it was actually a really romantic setting.
I came to a terrifying conclusion - this was the perfect time to confess my feelings for Lapis. I couldn't really think of a more preferred setting than the one we were occupying right at this moment. I slowly looked over at the bluenette, and noticed that she was staring up at the sky, laid back with her hands resting behind her head. I felt heat rush to my cheeks as I was thinking of a way I could bring this up.
"U-uh say Lapis..." I squeaked, and she lazily looked over at me with a nonchalant look on her face. "There's...something that I've been meaning to tell you for a while...a-and well I guess I was just afraid of your reaction..." I said. After I said that, Lapis looked more interested, and she slightly sat up a bit. "What is it?" she asked, resting on her hands. She looked into my eyes and all of a sudden this seemed like an extremely harder thing to do.
I quickly looked down so I wouldn't stutter, and I saw her tilt her head out of the corner of my eye. Gah, she probably thinks I don't wanna look at her. Just say it, Peridot! "I-It's kind of a weird situation...c-considering my brother dated you..." I muttered, and Lapis still didn't seem to be catching on. I groaned and kept my eyes downward, and I pulled my knees to my chest. Just say it. Just say it. Just say it. Come on, Peri. Just. Say. It.
"L-Lapis...I..." I stuttered, and I panicked as the words weren't coming out. "I..." I tried again, but I still seemed to be tongue-tied. Lapis looked at me, and her previous calm expression started turning into a confused one. "Peridot...are you...alright?" she asked, tilting her head to the other side. "I-yes! I-I'm fine...I just...I...I..." I felt like every single drop of blood in my body was now in my face, and I felt like disappearing at that exact moment. "I don't exactly know how to refer to this specific feeling I have, and your reaction has two outcomes...either one of utter disgust...o-or acceptance...I really..." my voice trailed off, and I was internally screeching as the words wouldn't come out.
"Do you like girls?!" I blurted, and right after I said that, I slapped my hand over my mouth and stared at her with wide eyes. I saw a slight blush on Lapis's cheeks, and the blush spread more by the second. Her eyes were wide as well, and her mouth was slightly opened, and she didn't reply for almost a whole minute. "U-uh...I um...I mean...girls are--" "LAPIS I LIKE YOU OKAY?! I THINK YOU'RE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND ATTRACTIVE GIRL I'VE EVER SEEN AND I JUST CAN'T HOLD IT BACK ANYMORE!! Y-YOU GIVE SO MANY MIXED SIGNALS A-AND IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!! I...I get frustrated and I feel like every time we get close...you push me away..." I said all at once, and instant regret washed over me.
Lapis stared at me with an expression of utter shock on her face. "I-I...I'm sorry. Lapis I--" Lapis then got up and slid down the pipes of the building, landing down on the beach below us. She ran off toward some secluded area, and I watched in horror. Not the reaction I was hoping for. "L-LAPIS WAIT!!" I screeched, jumping off of the roof, landing face-first into the sand. I lifted my head up and spit out a clump of dirt and quickly climbed to my feet.
I ran as fast as I could across the beach. The sound my breath hitching and the waves crashing over the shore were the only sounds that pounded through my ear drums - it was oddly terrifying. I saw Lapis turn a corner into somewhere out of sight and I cursed out loud. I ran faster after her and turned the same corner. "Lapis! Please come back! Do you hate me?!" I shouted, but I got no answer. I finally stopped running once I found Lapis sitting on a roof of another shack that seemed much older and rickety.
"Lapis...p-please...pant talk to me pant I..." I put my hands on my knees and bent over, trying to catch my breath. "Lapis please talk to me! I-I probably shouldn't be putting this pressure on you...b-but please don't shut me out! LAPIS!!!" I kept shouting up there, but she still didn't answer. I kicked the sand beneath me and growled and squeaked in frustration. "Lapis...please talk to me..."
