Chapter 28

I dusted myself off as I stared down at Jasper's body now lazily lying across his couch. I noticed he had his dorm key in his pocket, so we were luckily able to get in without asking his roommate or anything. His roommate must've been out, because we didn't see him present in the dorm. "Okay, let's get outta here." Lapis said, turning around and walking towards the door. I nodded, following after her. We both walked out the door, and I closed it behind us quietly. As soon as the click of the door closing sounded behind us, I let out a sigh of relief.

"I can't believe we pulled that off." Lapis whispered, staring at the floor. "Me neither." I replied in a cracky voice. She then looked over at me with a small smile on her face. "I never... thanked you." she said. "I...huh? For what?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "For... defending me back there. Ya know... saving me from another beating..." she muttered, looking away and putting a hand on her other arm shyly. "So... thanks..." I couldn't help but feel a grin form across my face, and I stared at her. "It was nothing...he was gonna hurt you. You didn't think I was just gonna stand by and watch, did you?" I replied, taking one of her hands in mine.

Lapis looked at me with almost a sparkle in her eye, then she looked down at our hands. She didn't respond, and just pulled me into a hug. I rested my arms around her waist, and she wrapped hers around my shoulders surprisingly tightly. "Let's get back to the dorm..." I said, stroking her back. And fuc- "sniff alright..." she murmured, pulling away slowly. She wrapped her arms around herself, looking down. She seemed to do that a lot. I took my green flannel off, and nervously draped it over her shoulders, hoping to help a little. Lapis then looked over at my nervous face, and snorted.

"Wh-what?" I asked in a shaky voice, feeling my face flush. "Hahaha, n-nothing, you're just cute..." she said, smiling. "Wh-hey I'm not cute!" I whimpered, sounding like a prepubescent boy. Since she was several inches taller than me, she raised her hand just a little to ruffle my blond hair with it. I growled, my face probably beet red now. "You keep telling yourself that, Peri..." she said, pulling the flannel closer to her and walking away. I balled my fists and frowned, following after her slowly. I'm not cute...

Shortly after, we got back to the dorm, and I flopped onto my bed. Lapis had fully put on the flannel now, and she sat in the desk chair. My phone in my pocket then buzzed, and I groaned, slowly pulling it out. I didn't even bother to check who it was, so I just tapped answer from memory and put it to my ear. 'Hello?" I grumbled. "PERISNOT come meet us at the cafe, we need to talk!" Amethyst suddenly barked through my ear, and I flinched a little. "Ugghhhhh do I have to?" I asked, in a grumbly voice. "I'm not even...ready." I said, sitting up and looking down at my mop water-drenched feet and ankles.

"Hurry up! We don't care what you look like!" Amethyst shouteed, and I sighed loudly. "FIIIINNNEE." I groaned, rolling my eyes. "See ya soon, bye." I murmured, hanging up. I decided to take my sweet time and change my pants and socks anyways. So I stood up slowly, stretching my arms up. "Who was that?" Lapis asked, looking up at me. "Amethyst and the others just want me to come meet them somewhere, so I'll be back in a little bit I guess?" I explained, giving her a small smile. "Oh okay. Well I'm gonna take a shower." Lapis said, walking towards her drawers, grabbing some clothes. I changed my pants and socks, then slipped my converse shoes back on.

"Alright, bye Lapis." I said, looking over at her. "Bye Peri." she muttered, opening the bathroom door. I raised an eyebrow and tilted my head, standing up and slowly walking up to Lapis. I hugged her from behind, wrapping my arms around her waist gently. She flinched for a second, then relaxed. "Peridot?" she turned her head a little. I tilted my head and leaned forward, kissing her cheek. I then kissed the spot between her jaw and neck. I saw her cheeks begin to flush a dark red, and she side glanced me. I gave her smile, then slowly pulled away. She stood in the bathroom doorway as I opened the front door. I walked out, and closed the front door behind me.

I walked all the way down to the double doors, and opened them, pressing the button on my keys to unlock my car. I opened the door, and hopped in, then closing it. I put my keys into the ignition, and turned them, hearing the engine purr. Feeling my pockets, I grunted loudly, not feeling my phone in them. Fuck, I must've left them in my other pants when I changed them, I thought, mentally cursing myself. I pulled the keys back out, and stepped out of the car. I closed the door, locking it, then I ran back to the dorm quickly. I opened the door slowly, making sure I wasn't walking in on Lapis dressing or anything. I mean not that she would just dress in the middle of the room and not the bathroom, but just in case.

However, she was still in the bathroom, and I heard the shower running. I found my jeans on the floor next to my bed, and I walked over to them. I reached into the pockets, and mentally cheered as I felt the small device. I took it out of them, and stood back up. I started walking back to the front door, until I heard something coming from the bathroom. It kinda sounded like Lapis, so I came a little closer, and almost pressed my ear on the door. "Put your head on my shooooullldddderrrr~" I raised my eyebrows in surprise. She was singing.

"Hold me in your arms, baaabyyy~ squeeze me oh so tight, shooowww meee~ that you love me toooo~" she sung, and I felt my knees become weak. I immediately recognized the song to be by Paul Anka. It was one of the most beautiful singing voices I'd ever heard, if not the most. I mindlessly sat on my knees, pressing my ear against the door dazily. "Put your lips next to myyyyy eaaarrr~ won't you kiss me once, baaabyyy~ just a kiss goodnight, maaaybeee~ you and I will fall in looove~" I felt myself begin to mouth the words, closing my eyes. I listened to her sing for who knows how long, and I hadn't realized the shower stopped.

"...words I want to hear, baaabyyy~" her voice became closer, and I opened my eyes slightly. "Puuut your heeaadd on my shouulld-aaAAaAHH!!" Lapis yelped as she opened the door, causing me to fall in since I was leaning on the door. I immediately sat back up and backed the hell up, giving my ass rug burn through my pants. "LA-LAPIS UH HI!!!" I shouted, and my whole body shook as the blood flowed to my cheeks. "I WAS J-JUST UH-UHM I F-FORGOT MY PHONE A-AND UH I-I'M NOT A CREEP I PROMISE!!!" I screeched, tangling my fingers into my hair. "UH H-HOW MUCH D-DID YOU HEAR?!" Lapis asked, looking to the side, looking very embarrassed. "N-not much! Not anything in fact! I-I was just getting my phone and......... sigh, I heard everything..." I admitted, looking up at her blushing.

She had fresh clothes on, and her hair was a darker blue -almost black- since it was still wet. "Oh god, aghhh" she groaned, slapping her forehead and shutting her eyes tightly. There was an awkward silence between us as I sat there, and Lapis stood there, flustered. "Y-you have a beautiful voice..." I muttered, looking away and pulling at the carpet beneath me. I felt Lapis's eyes glued on me, and I was afraid to look at her.
