"You said your mom liked marigolds?" Lapis asked as we stood in the shop, looking around at the freshly cut bouquets. "Yeahh, but I don't know why that's relevant. Any type of flower would work fine." I replied, crossing my arms. Lapis then grabbed a bunch of the flowers in her fist, and sped down the aisle. I quickly followed behind, looking back and forth at the shelves. "Where are we going now?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Cards. This way." Lazuli deadpanned as she took a sudden left turn into another aisle. We entered the space and different types of cards were displayed across the shelves. "What kind are we looking for?" I asked, side glancing Lapis. "What do you think? Love! Admiration!" she replied quickly, reaching forward to snatch a card with a large red heart on the front. Original.
We then walked past the jewelry aisle, all of the items looking expensive as fuck. "Look at this necklace. Why can't I be rich like your mom." Lapis groaned, looking at a pretty turquoise necklace. I giggled, and looked at it as well. "I'll be sure to buy you that." I stated, smiling. Lapis then blushed, and huffed in embarrassment. "I was kidding." she muttered. "Ooo look at this ring!" I squealed, staring down at one in particular. It was black, and had a super tiny green alien head on it. It was more of a band, like those rubber ring things.
"You're looking at the kids' accessories." Lapis chuckled, but I ignored her. "This is beautiful. You'll never understand." I whispered, keeping my eyes glued to it. "Well if we wanna get this crap set up before either of our parents get home, we better get going." the bluenette stated, walking towards the checkouts.
. . . .
"Are you sure this will actually work, Lapis?" I asked, adjusting my glasses. Lapis was hunched over the table, scribbling cursive words into the cheap card we purchased. "It has to! Suspicions will be erupting like a volcano." she replied, finishing up, and looking over at the bouquet she bought. I had bought a vase, and Laz placed the flowers into it neatly. I picked up the card, and opened it up slowly. I read it, and made a grunt of slight disapproval.
I had lots of fun last night~ I hope to see you again soon, Yellow~ lots of love ❤️❤️
Oh my stars, we are actually doing this. I set the card standing up beside the bouquet of flowers, and I huffed. The slam of the garage door then echoed through the hallway, and Lapis and I exchanged panicked glances. "Go go go!" Lapis whisper shouted, shoving me into the other hall, leading to the bedrooms. We both peeked over the corner slightly, and my heart leaped as I spotted Lapis' mother enter the living room quietly.
She looked content at first, but then her expression shifted as she spotted the gifts on the dining room table. She approached them, and tilted her head as she got a closer look at them. She plucked the card up from the table, and opened it up. After a few seconds of reading the words inside the card with a mortified expression, she scoffed. She slammed it back down, and lowly growled as she looked toward the staircase. She then looked toward the kitchen, where the house phone mounted on the wall was located.
She stormed over to it, and snatched the phone from the hanger. She angrily dialed the numbers, and held the device up to her ear. Lapis and I looked at each other, and I dryly swallowed. "YELLOW! YOU BETTER GET YOUR BEHIND HOME RIGHT NOW!! We need to talk." she growled into the phone, then slamming it back onto the hanger. Lapis clamped a hand over her mouth, most likely holding back laughter. I rolled my eyes, still feeling incredibly anxious about the whole situation.
We waited about ten minutes before we heard my mother begin to unlock the front door. The door swung open, and there stood my mother, with an annoyed expression on her face. "Darling, what're you on about? I missed a very important meeting for this." she deadpanned, shutting the door behind her. Blue then stormed up to her, gripping the card tightly in her hand. "Explain this." she flatly replied, holding the card up to my mom's face. My mother raised an eyebrow, clearly confused. She then took it out of Blue's hand, and read it for herself.
My mother's eyes flickered up to Blue. "Please tell me you're joking." she finally said, squinting her eyes. "I am dead serious, Yellow. Who were you with last night?!" Blue asked in a strained tone of voice. "I was at work, Blue! I have no idea who this person is!" my mother protested. "Quit lying to me! How could you be so unfaithful?!" Blue shot back. "I have never cheated in my entire life! I assure you, I have no clue who this person is or why they sent me this! You're just being plain silly!" my mom raised her voice.
"How did they know that marigolds were your favorite, Yellow? Hm?! You had to know them somehow!" Blue cried, gesturing to the bouquet on the table. My mother's gaze switched back and forth from the flowers to Blue. She then took Blue's hand gently, and looked her straight in the eyes. "Blue...I would never lie to you. I promise you, that I have no idea how any of that nonsense arrived here. I simply went to work last night, and came back as soon as I was allowed. Home to you. I would never deceive you in the slightest, and I would do absolutely anything to keep that deep trust of yours. Do you understand me?" my mother then sincerely asked, and I furrowed my eyebrows. I heard Lapis quietly curse.
Blue was silent for a moment, and she looked back at the flowers. She then turned back to my mother, and sighed. "I...I...yes. I understand. It just all seemed... so strange. I thought you had fallen in love with someone else behind my back. It shattered my heart." Lapis' mother explained, and I very quietly grunted. "And I understand that. I would be upset as well. But I highly doubt I could ever fall out of love with you, darling." my mother replied, tilting her head.
A pang of sourness stung in my chest, because I had never seen my own mother this sincere in my entire life. Never to any of us... never to me. I glared, and my lips curled into a frown instinctively. My mother and Blue were embracing each other in a tight hug now, and I finally looked down at the floor. "Let us get rid of this rubbish. I'll just install a security camera system around here to prevent any more 'intruders' from coming in once again." my mother explained, taking the flowers and card, now walking up the stairs. Blue walked closely behind, and soon they were out of sight.
I felt Lapis' fingers wrap around my arm firmly, and she slightly pulled me back toward my bedroom. We entered my room, and I sluggishly shut the door behind us. Lapis then flopped forward onto my bed, loudly groaning into the blankets. I slumped into my desk chair, and dropped my head onto the desk. I heard Lapis then sigh. "I think we just brought them closer."
