I pulled up into the parking lot of Keystone Motel. I exited my car, and quickly entered the fairly small building. I looked around for a moment, then looked down at my phone.

Jasper: What room r u stayin in

Lapis: Omg you're HERE???

Jasper: did u think I wasnt gonna stick to my word?

Lapis: . . .

Lapis: ugh 34

Jasper: alrrrightyyy omw :)

I quietly chuckled, shoving my phone back into my pocket. I walked through the narrow hallways of the motel, squinting my eyes as I read each and every sign on the room doors. 30...31...32...33...34...35...wait-34! I took a step back and stood in front of Lapis' motel room. I raised my fist and knocked roughly three times. I stood there and waited for what felt like an hour, and I was about to knock again.

However, Lapis seemed to reluctantly crack the door open, peeking out. "Wow, you're actually here." she deadpanned, and I rolled my eyes. "Are you packed or not?" I asked, disregarding her comment. She then sighed, and opened the door all the way. "Not yet. Just gimme a few minutes." she muttered, leaving the door open as she walked from the doorway. I tilted my head, and peeked into the room slightly.

"Nice room." I sarcastically stated, slightly stepping into the tiny room. "It was all I could get at the moment. Not exactly thriving right now." she sighed, zipping her bags up. "Why don't you just tell me what happened?" I asked, walking further into the room. "Because it's none of your business." she flatly replied, not even looking up at me. "Y'know with that attitude I could just leave." I said, furrowing my eyebrows. "'K." was all she said in response.

I raised an eyebrow, and crossed my arms. She then stopped to look over at me for a moment. "Bye." she said. Her eyes looked tired, and it didn't seem like she could smile even if she wanted to. I then slowly started to fake-walk toward the door. "Okayyyy....I'm leavinggg...seeya, bratttt..." I stated loudly, slowing my steps more. "Nice having you." she said, continuing to go about her business. I slowed my steps even more, side glancing her.

I watched for a reaction as I finally arrived at the doorway, yet I did not receive one. I huffed in frustration, balling my fists. "Jus' tell me what the hell happened!" I said, throwing my hands in the air. "I already told you long story short. Peridot and I broke up." she said dully, still refusing to look at me. I fully turned back to her, pursing my lips. I couldn't help but feel bad for her, but I didn't know whether I should feel bad for Peridot more. My sister. I mean Lapis is my ex after all, why should I care?

...ugh, of course I still care, I thought, grunting. I approached her again, and she turned away from me further. "Hey. Look at me." I said, but she still refrained. "I said look at me when I'm talking to you." I said firmer, furrowing my eyebrows again. "...I always hated whenever you said that..." she murmured in a quiet voice barely above a whisper. A pang of regret stung in my chest, and I shut my eyes for a moment. "Please, just talk to me." I said in a softer voice, attempting to not come off as aggressive. Lapis then looked at me with a blank expression, but I could see the pain in her eyes.

"Are we going or not?" she asked in a slightly cracky voice. I sighed, feeling defeated. I nodded in response, and walked back toward the doorway for a second time.

. . . .

"I promise this'll be the last time I ask, but can you please tell me a lil' more about the situation?" I asked as I pulled out of the parking lot. "No." she simply replied, turning her head further toward the window. There was a tense silence that filled the car, and I already started feeling sweat form on the back of my neck. "Y-you...sure?" I asked again, side glancing her. This time she did not respond, and I eventually gave up on asking anymore. I'll ask Peridot more once she's not as upset anymore, I thought to myself.

Just as I reached over to turn on the radio, Lapis spoke up. "There was no way our relationship could work." she deadpanned. I froze in place, looking over at her. "Wh...why not?" I asked. "Because. Your mom. And my mom." she replied, still staring out the window. "My mom? Your mom? What're you talking about?" I asked. The distant light from each street light we passed shined across half of the bluenette's face as she spoke. "My mother. AKA your mother's new fiance." she responded, slightly turning to me.

"Ms. Blue? She's your mom?!" I asked in utter surprise, nearly swerving the car. "Ugh, keep your eyes on the road." she grumbled, turning away again. "Ah...you two would be step sisters once they get married, huh..." I said, looking at the steering wheel. "Yyyyyep." was all she said. That means she would be my step sister too...

"So...you just dumped Peri right then and there?" I looked from the road to Lapis again. "I'm not that cold. Other things happened...but long story short, I told her things just couldn't work...not now...and I dunno when it would ever..." she explained, her voice growing quieter with every word. I lowly hummed in response, turning my attention back to the road ahead of me. I said nothing else after that, more so deep in thought. I wonder what else happened in between those events? Maybe Lapis will tell me eventually. Or maybe Peridot.

. . . .

"Jasper, I'm not supposed to be here!" Lapis whispered through gritted teeth. "Ah, shut up, you're fine. No one'll notice ya." I replied, taking Lapis' hand as we entered the university. "JASPER!" she whisper-shouted, now covering her face with her hand. She ripped her other hand away from mine, and I rolled my eyes in response. I gripped two of Lapis' bags in my free hand, and I continued to march down the hallway.

"What if a professor sees me?! Or worse, Peridot sees me?" she sounded more anxious now. "Lapis, you need to calm the hell down. You're gonna give yourself a heart attack one of these days." I grunted, looking for my dorm room. "I can't help it! I get anxious!" she whispered back, still covering her face while hunching over. "Hunching over isn't gonna make you any less recognizable, Lapis." I stated, finally spotting my dorm.

"YES IT WILL!" she hissed, now clinging to the back of me to hide more. I pulled out my key, and unlocked the door. "See? No professors here right now. You realize it's the middle of the night?" I assured her, yet she said nothing. She just quickly speed-walked into my room, nearly bumping into me. I had an odd feeling that we were being watched, so my eyes flickered around. I looked around the hall for a moment to see if anyone had witnessed this. While I saw no one in sight, I slowly walked into my room after Lapis. "We have to go back to my car to get the rest of your bags, since you rEfuSEd to carry them in." I explained.

Peridot's POV:

I had heard Jasper mention Lapis' name across the hall of my room, and hurried whispers in response. My curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to sneakily check out what was going on. I immediately regretted going out there.

I subtly watched as Lapis held onto Jasper tightly. He unlocked the door to his room, and Lapis zoomed in without a second to spare. My brother sighed loudly, and the direction of his gaze turned over to the other side of the hall. He began to turn his head toward the opposite way, AKA my way, so I quickly backed back behind the corner I was peeking over. "We have to go back to my car to get the rest of your bags, since you rEfuSEd to carry them in." I heard him gruffly state before the door closed behind them.

I furrowed my eyebrows, and I balled my fists.
