The ride home was silent - and not in the good way. As soon as we arrived back at the dorm, Lapis set the back pack down onto her bed, allowing Pumpkin to climb out. "Crap. We didn't return the shoes." Lapis murmured, taking off her bowling shoes. "We can do it later..." I muttered in reply. She huffed, dropping the bowling shoes to the floor, and slipping on her converse shoes.

The bluenette silently approached the door, putting her hand back onto the doorknob. "Wh-where are you going?" I asked, cocking my head to look over at her. "Out. I promise I'll be back later." she flatly replied, opening the door. "H-hey, I'll come with you." I stated, standing back up from the bed. "N-no... just... don't. I just need to be alone for a little while, that's all. I'll be back." she explained, turning to me with glossy eyes.

"Oh... okay. I love you." I murmured. "Love you too." she said, and with that, she left the room. I sighed, and looked down at Pumpkin, who stared up at me questioningly. I ruffled the fur on top of her head, and closed my eyes for a moment. I was still processing the fact that Lapis and Pearl had dated in the past. Hell, I was surprised that they even knew each other before.

The situation was just really strange to me... Amethyst and Pearl cheated on the both of us with each other... and we ended up getting together. There was a very light knock on the door, and raised an eyebrow. Lapis? I approached it, and opened the door slowly, expecting it to be Lapis - though my prediction was wrong. It was Pearl.

She stood there timidly, and looked a bit surprised to find me answering the door. Was she expecting Lapis? "U-uhm, hello Peridot." she squeaked, nervously twiddling her fingers. I kept my hand on the door, and eyed her. "Hey, Pearl... you just missed her..." I muttered, then looking down to the floor. "Ah... I see... w-well can you tell her something for me?" she asked very quietly. I switched from one foot to the other. "Y-yeah of course." I replied, clearing my throat.

"I-I want you to tell Lapis I-I'm...really sorry... and I hope she can talk to me when she gets a chance... or whenever she's ready..." she said, looking down at her own feet. I pursed my lips, and scrunched up my eyebrows slightly. My grip on the door loosened, and I inhaled deeply through my nose. Pearl then spun on her heel, beginning to walk away from the doorway. "Wait." I deadpanned, watching as Pearl halted.

"I know you want to talk to Lapis... but... I also need to talk to you." I explained, and Pearl turned to look at me with an anxious expression. She only slightly nodded, and walked back towards me. I stepped aside so she could come into the dorm, and I closed the door behind us. "So... where did she go?" Pearl asked, wrapping her arms around herself.

"No clue. She just said she'd be back later." I replied, sitting in the desk chair. We were silent for a while, and I didn't like it one bit - but I couldn't find the right words just yet. There were too many questions surging through my brain at once. "So back at the camp site... you didn't really use your psychology skills to talk about Lapis' feelings, did you? You just... knew her so well." Pearl's cheeks became a light tinted pink, and she looked at the floor shyly. "I used some psychology stuff in there, but... I guess so." she murmured.

"Why didn't you guys ever mention it? You both knew we were all friends and it seemed like you didn't even know Lapis 'til I met her." I explained. "We didn't think it was necessary... besides, if we brought things like that up again, old wounds could've probably been opened back up... and something like this would've happened." she explained, gesturing her hands to the space in front of her.

I tilted my head, and a pang of sympathy stung in my chest. "I'm sorry this happened, Pearl. Amethyst is probably sorry too. If she hadn't brought that up, none of this would've happened... if I hadn't brought up Aquamarine, none of this would've happened." I said, looking down at my lap. "It was bound to happen at some point... but I didn't think it would happen this soon. Ugh, she provably hates me." she ran her fingers through her hair, closing her eyes in distress.

"Lapis is the one you should be comforting right now. She must feel terrible... I feel terrible." she groaned. "Yes, what you did was pretty messed up. But I'm almost positive Lapis will learn to forgive you." I assured. "Both of us will probably have already died of old age by then." Pearl grumbled, resting her chin in her hand. I sighed, looking awkwardly to the side. She was probably right, sadly. "I have one more question..." I muttered barely above a whisper.

Pearl acknowledged me by moving her gaze back up to me. "Did you even ever love her?" I raised my eyebrows, staring at Pearl intensely. Pearl then scoffed, and looked utterly taken aback. "O-of course I did! I... yes, I did. I loved her more than anything... but something just, kinda changed. Things weren't the same anymore. And I had met Amethyst. That changed things." she replied.

"How so?" I asked, squinting my eyes. "Lapis Lazuli is a wonderful girl, and anybody is more than lucky to be together with her. For instance, you." she gave me a calm look. I blushed slightly, and tried to hold a smile back as my fingers curled. "But... she wasn't the right one for me. We were just so different... too different. She tried, she really did... but I just... didn't feel it anymore. I couldn't." she explained in a sad tone. Silence.

"Well... if you really want her to forgive you, you're gonna have to be the one who tries this time." I finally stated. "A sincere apology is the best way to go about this at the moment. Well that and, just patience." I added. "She may never talk to me again, Peridot." she said in a guilty tone of voice. "She will, Pearl. She may even start talking to you sooner than you think."
