Peridot's POV:

I took a deep breath as I listened to the phone ring. It had only rung three times, and I was already getting incredibly anxious. Lapis sat on her bed, signing loudly. She laid across it, draping her arm over the edge, not looking nearly as hopeful as I felt.

"Peridot, why are you calling me."

"MOM!"

"Stars, inside voice please, Peridot!"

"S-sorry! I just really need something from you..."

"Need something? From me? I have already provided you with the finest of luxuries, daughter."

"You made me live in a dorm."

"Bah, you children always pestered me. Is it such a sin to require some time to myself?"

"Don't you feel alone without dad there?"

"Heavens, no. He could burn in hell for all I care. I have found another, anyways."

"What?! Who?! Why didn't you tell me?!"

"Because it is none of your concern. I figured as soon as I'd tell you, you'd input your unwanted opinion."

"Mom! Ugh look you're distracting me! I need to talk to you about something."

"Well out with it, young lady."

"I wanna move back home."

"No."

"mOm!"

"INSIDE VOICES."

"I hate it here! I am in a bit of a conflicting situation. I really really really, REALLY wanna move back home. It sucks here."

"Hm."

"Mother, please. You don't understand."

"We already paid for your student tuitions, Peridot. How could you just drop that all?"

"We are RICH! You can easily earn that money back."

"If I let you move back in, there are going to be a few ground rules, Peridot."

"Yes yes anything."

"There will be no yelling. No running. No friends over. No other gue-"

"Ack."

"Ack? What now?"

"That is the other thing. I want to move back...but someone else needs your assistance as well. I'm gonna need you to let my roommate crash with us for a while, mom. Please."

"What?! Are you out of your mind? You're lucky I am letting you come back to inhabit this household!"

"I know mom, but PLEASE! I will never ask you for anything like this again!"

"More like, never ask me for anything again, period."

"Fine. FINE! Just please! We only have until 9 AM tomorrow!"

"Why so soon? Where's the fire?"

"Uhm...it is... complicated?"

"Is your friend getting evicted or something? So they're a deadbeat as well?"

"No mom, it's not like that at all!"

"If I even consider letting this stranger live in my household, I need to meet them first. I will be the judge of whether or not they can stay. Hell, I'm still not sure if YOU'RE going to stay here."

"Agreed! We'll be there in the morning. Then I can meet this NEW addition to our family, apparently."

"Yes, you may. And you better be nice. Or you definitely won't be living here."

"Understood, moooomm. Jesus."

"While we are on the phone, why don't you tell me how your boyfriend is?"

"Boyfriend?! Mom what boyfriend?!"

"Ah, that is the spirit. Too busy with business and education for a boyfriend. I am proud."

"That's not it, mom!"

"Oh? So you do have a boyfriend?"

"No?!"

"Girlfriend? Peridot you know you should be far more occupied with studies than with a significant other."

"I have good time management, mother."

"Then why are you introducing your roommate to me? Who you really should be introducing me to is your girlfriend. She must be eligible for your standards. You don't know your own good."

"You don't get to just choose who I can and can't date."

"If I plan on passing this company down to you, you are damn right I can."

"I don't even know if I wanna take over the company, mom. You apparently have a significant other! And that doesn't seem to interfere with your work!"

"Oh you silly girl. That is because I have godlike time management skills."

"Or you're just neglectful."

"Shut that flapping mouth of yours, young lady. I will see you tomorrow morning. We'll be expecting you. Be on your best behavior, and this roommate better please me."

"Hhhh, 'kay mom."

"_____"

I huffed, closing my eyes as I placed my phone onto my bed. "What did she say?" Lapis then asked, and I took off my glasses. "She said she wants to meet you first. She will decide whether or not she'll be okay with both of us staying. She was hesitant to even let me stay." I explained. "See?! I told you!" Lapis then sat up, pointing at me. "We're supposed to be at the house by tomorrow morning, which is when you have to leave, right?" I asked, plopping down onto my bed.

"Yup. You didn't tell her WHY I have to leave, right?" she asked. "Nope. I'm praying she won't ask. That'll probably slim the chance of you having a good impression on my mother." I grunted. "And if she does ask...?" the bluenette tilted her head. "We could just say...ugh I dunno." I groaned, laying backwards onto my mattress. I closed my eyes, and rubbed them roughly. I dropped my glasses beside me, and huffed loudly.

"I shall be on my best behavior, Peridot. How hard could it be?" Lapis then asked. "Very. Oh so...very hard." I sighed. "She also apparently has a replacement for my father. So I don't even know what THIS one's like." I said. "My dad was at least a little more laid back about these types of things. What if this new parent is just as uptight as my mom? That could be a nightmare... this is such a big risk." I explained. "You're the one who suggested this, Peridot. It'll be okay. I'll find SOMETHING if this doesn't work out, alright?" she assured, and I opened one eye. The blurry ceiling displayed in my vision. "I better start packing up." she then stated, and I heard her bed squeak.

This could be a disaster...
