"Peridot, you two can of course stay in the bedroom you used to possess. Just make sure to make room for Lapis, and do not be stingy." my mother commanded, and I scoffed. "I'm not stingy." I argued. "You were the stingiest of all of your siblings, Peridot." she stated, crossing her arms. "Yeah, well I'm different now." I glared at the floor stubbornly. "Enjoy your stay, Lapis Lazuli, and I do hope you get back on your feet as soon as possible." my mother added, slowly exiting the bedroom.

I huffed, and face palmed. "Th-thanks again, Ms. Diamond!" Lapis called after her, leaning forward a bit. I walked up to the bedroom door, and swung it closed. I crossed my arms, and turned around to look at Lapis once again. "I can't believe this. I can't believe them!" I grumbled. Lapis hopped onto my bed, and stood up on it, looking around. "I can't either. I more so can't believe my own mother. She never even told me she was a lesbian." Lapis huffed, starting to hop up and down on the bed.

"But that's not the main issue here, Lapis! We cannot be step sisters! It'll be too weird!" I whined, throwing my arms in the air. "That is a really weird thought. I never would've guessed this was our fate." Lazuli muttered, looking at the posters plastered across my walls. "Our fate?! You're really just gonna let this happen?!" I asked, cocking my head to look further up at her. "You're such a nerd. Who has a Game Cube anymore?" Lapis snorted, looking down at all of my old game consoles scattered across the floor.

"Excuse me, I am old fashioned and it is not a sin to be retro." I insisted, placing a hand on my chest. I then realized we were getting off topic again, and I shook my head and groaned. "LAPIS!" I shouted. "Your mom said it herself, Peridot! They're not splitting up for the sake of us. No matter how much it actually matters to us..." Lapis trailed off, her hopping starting to slow down. "They're engaged adult women! We're just...two college students dating." she finally sat back down on the bed.

"We're adults too, Lapis! We can't let them think they're better than us just 'cause they're older." I explained, sitting in my spinning desk chair. The bluenette folded her hands together, and sighed sadly as she peered down at the floor. Pumpkin was fast asleep on the carpet, and she appeared to be indifferent to Lapis' previous jumping. "Peridot...I've never been in this situation before." she murmured. "It'll be incredibly awkward if we suddenly became sisters, Lapis. Our past? The things we've done?!" I hissed through my teeth, feeling my cheeks burn.

"And not to mention the fact that...I'm in love with you...the fact that I'd never be able to be anything more with you than just a step sister would break my heart." I explained quietly, looking away. "I know, Peridot...I love you too. But I just have no idea how we're gonna get outta this one." she replied in a low tone. There was a depressing silence between us for a long moment.

"We could always just...move to the opposite side of the world. Maybe the laws here won't affect us there?" I asked hesitantly, instantly cringing as I just heard myself. Lapis chuckled, and looked up at me with a confused look on her face. "Aha, sorry...I just...really wanna stay with you." I muttered. I felt Lapis' stare on me for a very long time, and I shifted a little, becoming increasingly shy. Lapis then got off of my bed, and approached me. She cupped my cheeks with her hands, and planted a kiss on my forehead.

"If worse comes to worse, and we do end up becoming sisters, I'm never gonna stop loving you. Even if it means I can't show it." she stated, then kissing me on the cheek. I sighed through my nose, and stared down in deep thought. There had to be a way to get out of this. I can't lose Lapis as my girlfriend. I just can't. I then stood up, and Lapis raised an eyebrow in question. "I'm gonna talk to my mother one more time. I'm gonna give it one more chance." I said.

Lapis tilted her head, and gave me a half smile. "Good luck then." she replied quietly. I then approached the door, cracking it as I slightly peeked out. I screeched loudly as I spotted an eye staring back at me. I stumbled backwards onto my ass, and groaned loudly. The door then pushed open, and there stood my sister Squaridot, with her hands on her hips. "I came as soon as I heard the news. Isn't this gonna be great?! Lapis will be apart of the Diamond family! She'll be one of us! One of us!" Squari had a devilish grin on her face, and my stomach lurched.

I then climbed back up to my feet, and glared at my sister. I then shoved her out of the way, storming out the door. "Wow. I wonder what's up her ass?" I then heard her sarcastically ask, and I rolled my eyes. I dashed down the hall, and as soon as I arrived in the living room, my eyes darted back and forth in search of my mother. "MOM!" I shouted, balling my fists. "INSIDE VOICES, PERIDOT!" my mother then screamed back from the kitchen.

I then speed walked into the kitchen, and found her standing there at the oven. "What're you doing? You never cook." I asked, scrunching up my eyebrows. "Preparing to sit you on this if you do not stop bothering me." she replied calmly, nodding her head toward the burning stove as she retrieved a pan from the cabinet. I groaned, and shoved my hands into my pockets. "Mom, you don't understand how important this is to me. How important Lapis is to me! Do you realize how much I love her?!" I asked.

"Maybe you should have told the truth over the phone, and it would have given me more time to think about it." she claimed. "That's not true." I stated, rolling my eyes. "Heh, you're right. So why even bother trying to convince me to let this little thing happen now?" she asked. "Because I am your daughter and you should at least care about my decisions, too!" I said, throwing my hands in the air. "You don't seem to care about my decision to marry Blue, Peridot." she argued, and I loudly grunted. "This is different!" I whined.

"How is it different? You are only nineteen years old. You have plenty of time to find another fish in the sea." she stated, and it reminded me of the conversation I had a while back with my friends. "Lapis being my sister will change everything! It'll make things so much harder to actually forget my feelings for her. Or forget about her in general!" I protested. "You're putting too much unnecessary energy into this love interest of yours, Peridot." she simply said. "You don't even need a significant other at the moment, Peridot. You're so young and your studies are so much more important." she added.

"Why was I birthed by such an insensitive, unsympathetic woman..." I mumbled under my breath. "Nobody likes a mumbler, dear. Speak up." she commanded. "Nobody likes a heartless stone wall!" I raised my voice, furrowing my eyebrows. "This stone wall decided to give you life, and care for you. The only heartless being here is you, being so ungrateful." she argued, and I huffed in frustration. I decided I had had enough, and I spun on my heel, headed back to my room. "I'm glad we came to a compromise, Peridot! You'll adjust to it nicely, I assure you!" I heard her call after me.

I stormed back to my bedroom, and internally screamed as I saw the shadow of Squari displayed on the wall across from my open door. I entered the room, and grumbled as my sister was seemingly lowkey harassing Lapis. "Get out." I commanded, pointing to my door. "Oh! Hey sis." she simply said, unmoving. Lapis looked uncomfortable and annoyed to say the least, so I raised my voice louder. "GET. OUT!" Squari smirked at me, and raised an eyebrow. "Welcome to the family, Lapis Lazuli. It'll be lots of fun. Sister Squari, brother Jasper...sister Peri." she said, and Lapis seemed to wince at the mention of my name.

With that, my older sister swiftly left the room, chuckling. "I'm...still really sorry about her." I sighed, looking at her. "How did the talk go with your mother?" Lapis then asked. "Not well. At all." I grunted, crossing my arms in utter frustration. Lapis huffed, and flopped backwards onto my bed, staring up at the ceiling. I blinked a few times, and removed my glasses as I sat back down in my desk chair. I thought deeply for a moment. I didn't want things to have to come to this.

"What's on your mind, Peri?" I heard Lapis ask, and I squinted my eyes. "There's only one other way to solve this." I muttered, resting my chin in my hand. "What is it?" she then sat back up. "I didn't want to have to take such drastic measures...but if we don't want to end up being step sisters, we're gonna have to split our mothers up ourselves, Lapis."
