We arrived at the hospital, and walked up to the front desk. A woman with short, pointy blond hair and yellow scrubs sat behind it, typing at her keyboard over 100 words per second. Her sly eyes trailed away from the screen, and scanned each of us slowly. "Can I help you two?" she asked in a smug, almost nasally voice. "U-uhm, we're here to see my brother." I said, placing my hands on the counter. She remained silent for a moment, then looked back to her computer.

"Last name, please." she muttered. "Greene." I replied quickly. After typing, and some scrolling, she seemed to spot something and nod. "Alright, Jasper will be down the hall, in the first room to your left." she explained, not moving from her position. "Th-thank you." I murmur before quickly taking Lapis's hand and walking away from the front desk. I felt the receptionist's eyes stay on me all the way down the hall, so I kept my gaze elsewhere. "I don't like her attitude." Lapis mumbled, raising an eyebrow and looking back at her.

We walked down the hall, and looked to the right. Sure enough, there was a room with the door shut. I lightly knocked on the door, and a few moments later, Squari answered it. "There you guys are!" she whisper-shouted. She quickly took me by the wrist and pulled me in, and Lapis slowly followed. "He hasn't woken up yet." my sister murmured, and I looked over to the hospital bed. There laid Jasper with his eyes closed, and there were dark circles around them.

His face was in fact pretty damn pale, and his lips were almost a blue color. "Are you sure he's not dead?" I whispered to Squari. "He's breathing. But he's still unconscious. I told you he looked bad!" she hissed back. I then looked over at Lapis, who seemed to be just staring at Jasper blankly. Her eyes darted over to me, and she immediately looked away from Jasper to the wall. I slowly walked over to her, and tilted my head. "Lapis?" I said quietly. "Y-yeah?" she replied, not looking away from the wall. "Are...you okay?" I asked. "Y-yeah yeah, I'm okay! I'm fine, Peridot..." she finally looked over at me, nodding her head quickly.

Her eyes looked glossy, and she cleared her throat as her gaze switched down to the floor. "Just sucks about Jasper..." she muttered. "Yeah...b-but I think he'll be fine...he's a tough guy..." I said. "but what gets me though...i-is why he would do it..." Lapis suddenly said barely above a whisper. "What?" I cocked my head to look at her. "Jasper wouldn't take a shit ton of pills just for the hell of it...he doesn't even need pills. It's not like him to take any medication at all...he planned to die." Lapis explained, her voice getting shakier. I looked back over at my brother, and I felt a lump form in my throat. "D-do you think it was...o-our faults...? M...my fault?" I gave her a surprised expression, and raised both of my eyebrows.

"H-how could you say that, Lapis? None of this was your fault." I said, taking a step toward her. Lapis then wrapped her arms around herself, and turned away. "Jasper has the perfect life on campus. The only big issues he's ever had was with me." she explained. "Hey...you don't know that..." I replied. The bluenette let out a shaky sigh. "There's still things that I assume he hasn't told you about, Peridot...considering you didn't even know about me." Lapis stated. "Wh-what do you mean? I-I know now." I argued. She shrunk back even more, and said nothing. "I-I shouldn't have come here." she whispered. "Do you wanna leave?" I asked her, walking closer to her.

"J-just me, Peridot. Not you. He's your brother. You're not gonna be cut off from your family just because of me." she said, and walked slowly to the door. "Lapis wait..." I whimpered. "I'll be outside...p-please just make sure he's okay." she stated, and with that, she left. I sighed, and looked away from the door. "Damn. You guys got some serious issues to work out." Squari suddenly said, and I shot her a glare. "Just sayin'..." she said in a high-pitched voice, raising her hands defensively in the air. I stared down at my unconscious brother, and started thinking of what Lapis said. Jasper did call me several times...hundreds...of times...and I just ignored him. Maybe he was apologizing? Maybe he needed help?

I closed my eyes and looked down, feeling pained. "I'm sorry I wasn't here sooner, sis..." I then said barely above a whisper. "Maybe Lazuli is right. Maybe it is our faults..." I added, resting my hands on the foot of Jasper's bed. There was some silence, and I could see Squari fidgeting out of the corner of my eye. "Hey sis, d-don't beat yourself about it, alright? We all make mistakes...I don't know what's going on between all three of you guys but...it'll work out." she said in a soft voice. I then looked up at her, and tried to grin, but just gave a weak half-smile instead. "I sure hope so..." I replied. Silence filled the room, except for the distinct beeping of the machine next to Jasper.

Almost 10 minutes went by of me just watching my brother lay there...I had no idea what had gone through his mind. I wanted to know. "Hey...lemme know when he wakes up, okay? I'm gonna go." I said, looking over at my sister. "Alright. Seeya..." she mumbled, remaining seated in her chair. I quickly left, and walked up to the front where the front desk. I avoided the lady's piercing stare, and walked out the double doors. I spotted Lapis leaned against the wall of the building, her hands shoved in her pockets. "H-hey..." I squeaked, and the bluenette quickly looked over at me. "Hey..." she said, looking happier to see me. She pushed off of the wall and stood up straight. "We heading out?" she asked, nodding her head toward my car. "Yeah..." I replied.

We got into the car in silence, and drove off towards campus once again. Once we arrived at the university, we walked to the dorm, and quietly entered our room. I laid back on my bed, resting my hands behind my head and staring up at the ceiling. There were so many thoughts running through my head, and it distressed me. I then felt a weight on my bed, and glanced over at the edge. It was Lapis, and she climbed toward me. She laid down on her stomach, resting her head on my chest.

I lowered my hand to run my fingers through her soft hair, and her breathing was slow and calm. We stayed like that for about an hour, Lapis falling asleep but me staying well awake. An idea had popped into my head, and I felt it would cheer both Lapis and I up. It was a big deal, and I had to think this whole thing through beforehand. But it's gonna be fucking awesome.
