Chapter 54

-The next morning-

"Please, Squari I'm begging you to take our dog." I pleaded, holding Pumpkin tightly. "There's no way, Peridot! I'm not risking getting in trouble for some puppy!" Squari spat, crossing her arms. Lapis and I stood at her doorway, and she looked ready to slam the door in our faces. "Squari, please we won't ask you for anything else, I promise." Lapis insisted. My sister stared at Lapis for a moment, then looked over at me.

"I'm sorry guys, but I need this education. If I end up getting expelled, or receiving a huge punishment, it won't look good for me. I can't risk that. I got a life ahead of me." she explained, shrugging her shoulders. "What, are you saying we don't?!" I furrowed my eyebrows. "Oh, I know you do. Just not as bright as my future." she replied in a cocky voice, placing a hand on her chest. I rolled my eyes, and groaned. "Thanks for nothing, sis." I grumbled, spinning on my heel.

"Love you too." she muttered, closing her door. Behind all that cockiness, I could tell she felt a little bad. Good. If I get expelled, she could be plagued with the guilt, not me. "What're we supposed to do now?! We could be kicked out of this university, Peridot." Lazuli whimpered, and I sighed. "Pearl already said no, no matter how much Amethyst wanted it, or how cool Garnet was with it. Who does that leave us with?" I asked, looking over at the bluenette. I heard Lapis grunt, and she tensed up, gritting her teeth.

"We can't trust Jasper with our puppy, Peridot. We can't! She'd probably be dead by tomorrow!" Lapis protested, and I scrunched up my eyebrows. "Now, now let's not jump to conclusions, Lapis. I know my brother isn't exactly the best option for this situation, but he is our only option. Besides, he likes dogs." I explained. "He's a total meathead. He doesn't know how to care for a puppy!" Lapis argued. "All we have to do is bring him the food, toys, and pee-pee pads and they'll be fine." I assured.

Lapis wrapped her arms around herself, and stared at the floor with a 'hmph'. We arrived at Jasper's dorm door, and I took a deep breath. I nodded at Lapis, and she looked extremely hesitant. However, she raised her fist up to the door, and lightly knocked three times. After about five seconds, Lazuli shrugged. "Welp. Guess he's not home. Let's go, Peri-" she was interrupted by the sound of the doorknob jiggling.

I could see the look of disappointment on her face as she halted her footsteps away from the door. "O-oh. Hey guys." Jasper answered the door, looking a bit surprised to see us. "Hey, Jasper. Um, we'd like to ask a big favor..." I murmured, and he eyed the puppy in my arms. "Is that...a puppy?" he asked. "Yes, yes it is." I quickly replied. "We were hoping you could maybe help us hide her. Aquamarine is on the lookout for her and she's most likely going to search us for the dog. That's why we need someone else to keep the dog temporarily." I explained, looking up at him shyly.

"Sooo...you're askin' me to pet sit?" he asked, leaning against the doorframe. "Pretty much." I replied, looking away. "Sure, why not." he said flatly, and I widened my eyes in surprise. "Wait really?!" I squealed. "Yeah. She has food and stuff already, though right? Tuition is sucking my dry money-wise." he explained. "Y-yeah she's got everything." I replied. "But we gotta hurry." Lapis stated.

So I took two trips to bring all of Pumpkin's stuff to Jasper's dorm, and we were all set. "Thanks so much, Jasper. We really appreciate it." I said, watching as Pumpkin roamed around his room. "You're welcome. Just don't be too long." he said, chuckling. Lapis had been silent the whole time, and we headed back to our dorm. "You didn't even thank him, Lapis." I said, looking over at her. She turned her head away, and huffed.

"THERE YOU TWO ARE!!" I heard a shrill voice call out. We both stopped in our tracks, and I looked forward once again. Aquamarine stood there, glaring at us and pointing at us angrily. "Where is that dog?!" she asked. "None of your business! She hasn't caused any harm!" I lied, backing up a little. "No. WHERE THE FUCK IS IT?!" she demanded. Lapis then began to speed walk around Aqua toward our dorm. Aquamarine then started following behind her, and Laz groaned loudly.

Aquamarine then pushed Lapis aside and pushed our dorm door open. She stormed inside and placed her hands on her hips. "You know you could get in trouble for searching our dorm without our permission, right?" I asked, crossing my arms. "No! We've gotten plenty of complaints about that God damn puppy, and I'm putting an end to it!" she snapped, kneeling down and looking under my bed. "We already got rid of her. You're not gonna find her." Lapis stated. "Oh yes I will. I know youre hiding her some where!" Aqua growled.

"I gave you two a chance and you blew it! That animal caused mass chaos last night!" she scolded. "Get out of our room!" Lapis commanded, pointing to the door. There were then a series of thumps coming from outside in the hall, and the slight clanking of...Pumpkin's collar. "WAIT NO NO NO!!" I heard Jasper's voice boom. Aquamarine must've noticed my paled face, because she immediately ran out of our dorm. Lapis and I closely followed, and my heart nearly stopped. Jasper was chasing Pumpkin down the hall, and Aquamarine screamed, pointing at them.
