-The next morning-
"You got everything packed?" I asked, turning to her. I was putting my shoes on and quickly tying them as Lapis slipped on her varsity jacket. "Yeah...I just gotta move it all to the car." she stated, placing her hand on her duffel bag. "I'll help you move them to my car!" I claimed, immediately standing up straight and approaching the bags sitting on Lapis' bed. "Well if there's any chance that I'm gonna live there, shouldn't I take my own car? And even if your mother says no, I don't want you to have to go through the trouble of taking me elsewhere." she explained, scratching the back of her neck.
I then sighed and gave her a small smile. "Lapis, if you're not staying there, neither am I." I said, tilting my head. She then shyly chuckled and looked away. "Now, about Pumpkin... " I changed the subject, looking over at the puppy sound asleep on my bed. "We gotta get her out of here as soon as possible." Lapis said, walking up to her, and softly stroking her head. Lapis placed a few kisses on Pumpkin's head, and the puppy blinked few times lazily. "C'mon...we're going on a lil' trip." Lapis whispered to her, then carefully lifted her up.
I grabbed my keys, and made sure my phone was in my pocket. "If my mom says yes, I'll bring all my packed stuff later on. Right now we're just focusing on you." I said, looking back at Lapis. As I picked up Lapis' two large bags, I groaned a little, underestimating the weight of them both. I then heard the bluenette snort, and my cheeks heated up. "You sure you got that?" she asked.
"YES I HAVE IT! Besides, your arms are full with the puppy." I squeaked, feeling my elbows tremble. "If you say so, macho man." Laz giggled, walking past me and opening the door for me with one hand.
. . . .
We were packed and ready in my car, and I let out a sigh of relief. Lapis sat in the passenger seat patiently, Pumpkin sitting calmly in her lap. I started the car, and we were off. After a bit of silence, I finally decided to break it out of curiosity. "Lapis...why don't you wanna see your parents?" I asked. Lapis tensed her shoulders up, and she turned her head further toward the window.
However, she didn't exactly answer, and she sighed quietly. "...Lapis? You know you can tell me anything, right?" I assured, looking back and forth from the road to Lapis. Lapis tightened her arms around Pumpkin, and her lips curled into an embarrassed frown. "Lapis, I don't wanna pry at all, but if something important like this bothers you, I wanna know what it is. Maybe I could even help you." I explained.
"You can't help me with this one, Peri... but I appreciate the attempt." she finally answered timidly. "Well...maybe it'll make you feel a little better just to talk about it?" I suggested, giving Lapis a reassuring smile. "Well...it wasn't exactly both of my parents who caused the problem." she murmured. "Was it just the dad or what?" I asked. She grunted a little, and I raised an eyebrow in confusion. "No... definitely my mom." she stated.
"What happened? Did she disown you or something?" I leaned forward a little on the steering wheel. "Not...exactly. I kinda just left. Let's just say things weren't steady when she raised me. I decided to solve both of our problems by simply just moving out the first chance I had." Lapis explained. "Yet you went to someone like Jasper for comfort?!" I asked in a baffled tone. Lapis sighed, closing her eyes. "Jasper wasn't ALWAYS the way he was." she huffed, and I bit the inside of my cheek.
"Well...if my mother likes you, I can guarantee you she will treat you way better than any of those clods." I said, keeping my eyes on the road. "What about that new addition to the family your mom mentioned on the phone?" Lapis asked, and a pang of worry hit my chest. I huffed, tightening my fingers around the steering wheel slightly. "I...don't really know. I am just...hoping they're nice?" I replied unsure.
"She never even bothered to tell me she found someone else... it was baffling to say the least." I explained. "What was your dad like? Do you know the type of men she's into?" the bluenette asked. "I...have no idea. My mother wasn't really around, along with my father. I have no idea how well they got along normally, except for the rare times they were home." I replied. "My dad was a bit less uptight then my mom, and whenever they were home, my mom would be scolding him, or they'd be arguing about what they should let all three of us do." Lapis turned to look at me.
"Three of you?" she asked. "Jasper, Squari, and I...my mom eventually left him. She won custody over us shortly after that." I elaborated. "Oh...I'm sorry...you must miss him." she murmured. "I'm already an adult, Laz. If I really wanted to visit him, I would've already. But I don't even know where he went, and frankly I don't care." my voice grew a bit weaker. I cleared my throat and furrowed my eyebrows. "Anyways, I guess it'll just be a surprise for both of us about who the new husband will be." I said.
. . . .
I pulled up to the mansion, and took a shaky breath. "This is where you lived?! Your parents live here?! HERE?!" Lapis shouted in shock. "Haha, yup. But it honesty wasn't we luxurious as an outsider would think..." I muttered. I stopped the car, and we both exited it. Lapis slightly swayed Pumpkin back and forth as she looked up at the building in awe. "This is incredible." I heard her whisper. I closed the door, and locked the car. "Alright, well let's head in." I stated, feeling my feet grow heavier with each step I took.
"How does she feel about dogs?" Lapis asked quietly as we approached the entrance. "She doesn't mind them. Just as long as she doesn't pee or crap on anything." I replied, shakily raising my fist to knock on the large door. "Why are you knocking?! You probably have an awesome doorbell!" Lapis beamed, quickly pressing the glowing button beside the door. I huffed, rolling my eyes as I heard the familiar chimes of our extra ass doorbell. Lapis snorted and giggled, making it a bit more difficult to keep a grumpy expression.
After a few moments, I heard the clacks of high heels walking toward the door. I felt sweat form on the back of my neck. The door then slowly opened, and there stood my mother. Her golden eyes pierced through my soul as soon as she looked at me, and her drawn on eyebrows arched. She then switched her gaze over to Lapis, and she gave her a once-over. I side glanced Lapis, and I could tell she was getting anxious.
"Ahhh, my dear youngest." my mother then stated, holding her arms out in a welcoming gesture. "H-hey mom..." I grunted, shoving my hands into my pockets. "And this must be your roommate." she then said, turning to Lapis once again and disregarding the puppy. "H-hello...uhm..." Lapis held out her hand shakily. "Diamond. You can call me Ms. Diamond." my mom finished for her, gently taking Lapis' hand. "That's not your actual name, mom-" "Peridot I am speaking to your roommate. It is rude to interrupt." she cut me off.
"Yellow Diamond, at your service." my mother continued with a fake smile plastered across her face. I rolled my eyes, and crossed my arms. "L-Lapis. Lapis Lazuli." Lapis shyly replied, shaking my mother's hand. "Please, come in, come in. Peridot, I also want you to meet someone." she said, gesturing for us to follow her into the mansion. Lapis and I exchanged glances, and slowly walked in.
Lapis looked awestruck by the inside, eyeing the crystal chandelier above our heads. "You have a beautiful residence, Ms. Diamond." Lapis then said, staring at the spiraling staircase that I in fact have fallen down several times throughout my life. "I know. Isn't it grand? Just wait until you see the dining room. But before anything, I'd like to introduce you and Peridot to my beloved." my mother then stated. My palms became sweaty, and I took a deep breath.
"HONEY! MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER AND HER FRIEND ARE HERE! YOU MUST COME SEE THEM, MY DEAR!" my mom shouted, folding her hands behind her back. "Coming!" I then heard a... female voice reply? The woman shortly came into view, and the first thing I noticed was her incredibly long, sleek hair. She wore a dark blue gown that flowed slightly with her every movement. Her hands were clasped together in a gentle gesture, and her feet swept across the tile in a graceful manner.
I grew confused as soon as I noticed her previous warm smile fade almost immediately. Her eyes widened, and my heart beat faster. "Peridot. I'd like you to meet my fiance, Blue." my mom then gestured to her softly. "FIANCE?!" I shouted. The sound of Lapis' voice shouting nearly stopped my heartbeat as well. "MOM?!"
