My backpack felt heavy...my feet felt heavy...my heart felt heavy...it felt like I was hauling a ton on my back. I dragged my feet across the hard floors of one of the Beach City University hallways. Pumpkin squirmed in my backpack, but I made sure it wasn't noticeable to bypassers. I then heard her quietly whimper, yet it was slightly muffled. I sighed tiredly, and stopped walking for a moment. "I know, we're almost there." I whispered, patting my bag gently.

I stared down at the floor as I trudged along, thinking deeply. My mind flooded with conflicting thoughts, and my emotions were all in a mixed up mess of anger, sadness, and confusion. I chewed on my lip anxiously, knowing I was coming closer to my dorm room. I hope I don't have to explain what happened to my friends, I thought. How would I be able to tell them that Lapis left me because she didn't wanna have a fake marriage? Exactly. I couldn't.

I hadn't realized I started crying again until I felt the miserable warmth of my tears streaming down my cheeks. I shut my eyes tightly, attempting to let all of the tears out before I reached my dorm room. However, I jumped as I accidentally ran into another student. "I-I'm so sorry I-" I immediately halted my words as soon as I looked up to see who it was. "Peridot...? What's your deal?" Jasper's deep voice boomed.

I quickly wiped the tears from my face across my hoodie sleeve, sniffling. I adjusted my glasses and looked away from my brother. "Nothing." I flatly answered. "Doesn't seem like nothing. You look like you've been cryin' your eyes out." he argued, crossing his arms. I furrowed my eyebrows, continuing to stare at the floor. "I said nothing. I'm fine. I have to get back to my dorm." I stated in a firmer voice. "You sure?" he asked in a softer tone of voice. I hadn't replied. "Say, where's Lapis?" he then asked, and I slightly flinched at the mention of her name.

My lip uncontrollable quivered, and I attempted to keep my composure. I balled my fists and deeply inhaled. I then roughly bumped him with my shoulder, speed walking past him. "Peridot, wait." I heard him call after me, but I ignored him. I headed straight for my dorm room once again.

Jasper's POV:

I watched as Peridot stormed to her dorm room, jamming her key in. She shoved the door open, and slammed it shut once she entered. She seemed to be in a huge hurry to get in there. I rolled my eyes and looked down at the floor for a moment. I squinted my eyes, trying to think of any reason she could've been acting so strangely. Why did she get so upset at the mention of Lapis? I decided to leave my sister alone, but go ask her friends if they knew anything.

I knocked on Amethyst's door roughly, and the door soon opened. "Jasper? Hey dude, long time no see!" she greeted, grinning widely. "Uh hey, Amethyst. Do you by chance know what the deal is with Peridot?" I jerked my thumb in the direction of Peridot's door. Amethyst moved her head to look around me, and she arched an eyebrow. "Uh? What happened?" she asked. "I was walking down the hall and she ran straight into me. She seemed to be really bummed out. Cryin' her eyes out and shit. She was in a hurry to get in her room too." I explained.

Amethyst's previous neutral expression soon switched to more concerned. She shrugged, and shook her head slowly. "I have no idea, dude. I haven't talked to her in, like, a couple days now." she replied, and I huffed. "Do you mind asking the others too?" I asked. "I doubt they'd know either. They definitely woulda told me." she answered, shrugging again. I lowly hummed in response, looking over at the wall in a moment of thought. "Alright then. Thanks anyways." I muttered, turning back around.

If Peri's friends don't know what happened...then the only other person who could know would be...Lapis. I decided to pull out my phone, and find Lapis in my contacts. I called her, standing still for a minute as I listened to it ring. On the near last ring, I heard her pick up.

"Jasper?!"

"Uh heh, yeah hey."

"You sure you don't have the wrong number? This is Lapis."

"Aha, unfortunately not. I just wanted to ask you something."

"Uh...okay?"

"Do you um...know what's wrong with Peridot?"

"Wh...Peridot?"

"Uh yeah. She was crying...and got all pissy at the mention of you. She stormed to her room after that."

"Oh...I um...I didn't know she started crying..."

"So you did have something to do with this."

"Why is this any of your business?"

"She's my sister, Lapis. I also wanted to know if you were okay."

"I'm fine...just going through some stuff right now."

"What kinda stuff?"

"None of your concern."

"Aw, c'mon, Lapis. Where you at? How come Peridot came back to the college alone?"

"I'm at a motel. Peridot and I broke up."

"Motel?! Broke up?! What the hell happened?"

"I said it's FINE, Jasper. Don't worry about it. It's for the best."

"C'mon, lemme pick you up, Lapis. You don't needa be staying at a MOTEL."

"No, really it's fine, Jasper. Just drop it."

"I'm gonna search every motel 'til I find you, Lapis."

"That's creepy."

"That's not what I meanntttt, Lapis. Just lemme pick you up. Get your bags ready. Ima come get you."

"Where the fuck would we even go?"

"You could stay with me here in the dorm room!"

"I'm not even enrolled there anymore! I'd be breaking the school law!"

"Ah who gives a shit. I'll be on my way."

"No, Jasper! It's okay really I don't-"

"Ah ah ah. Decision already made. No changing my mind."

"Jasper I-"

Call ended.
