Chapter 37
Joe parked my car in my parents' driveway and I carried the box of pastries. He looked nervous all of the sudden and I took his hand. "Joe you've talked to them on the phone before it's not any different. Except you actually see them." I said. I rang the doorbell. Joe kept changing from one foot to the other. "Chill." I smiled.
My dad opened the door and I gave him a hug.
"Hello." He says. Joe smiles at him. "Joe how are you?" They shake hands and my mom comes out.
"Good to see you again." She gives me and Joe a kiss on the cheek. "Finally nice to meet you." My mom pats Joe's arm.
"Where's grandma?" I asked.
"She's inside." My mom lets us in.
"We have some pastries for you guys." Joe holds it up.
"Oh thank you. I'll help you with that." My dad takes the box to the kitchen.
"That's sweet of you Joe." My mom let us into the living room. My grandma was sitting at her armchair watching her tv shows.
"Hi grandma." I said giving her a hug.
"Oh I haven't seen you in a long time. Who's this?" She turns around."Joe! I heard you two got engaged. Congratulations." She says.
"Thank you mama." I said.
"How are you?" Joe says and politely bowed his head.
"I'm very good. Sit, sit." My grandma motions for us to sit at the sofa. I saw our pictures from when we were younger still hanging on the walls. Joe glanced at them and smiled down at me. Both my parents sat on the opposite couch and Joe folds his hands together.
"I can't believe you two are getting married. Joe you know it's Anne's biggest dream to marry you." My mom says and we laughed.
"I told him that already." I said and I take his hand. It was sweating and I soothed him with a few strokes on his thumb. They were looking at him, analyzing. I told them many stories about Joe when they were away for a while and they know he's a good guy.
"I was worried because I didn't ask you guys for permission. It was kinda at the last minute." Joe smiles shyly.
"Well you already had our blessing from the start." My dad says and they both laugh. "Anyways you make my daughter very happy so I leave it to you." We continued to talk about wedding plans and Joe said he wanted to get married as soon as possible. Both my parents looked a little iffy about that idea.
"How early?" My mom asked.
"In December." Joe says and I already had an idea of what kind of wedding I would love.
"It could be a winter wedding." I smiled.
"Are you sure you can handle all the preparation and everything?"She asked.
"Yea." I nod.
"I'll have lots of people helping her out for it and she'll just tell them what she wants." Joe smiles. There was other questions of me moving in with Joe or him moving into my apartment.
"We still haven't talked about that." I looked at Joe and he nods.
"Okay. Well why don't we start lunch. We'll eat at the deck." My mom got up helping my grandma stand up. "Why don't you boys go set up the table?" She points to outside.
"Sure." Joe nods and I let go of his hand giving him a pat on his chest as he goes outside with my dad.
"Anne you help me in the kitchen." I looked away from the sliding door and made my way to the back. The box of pastries was in the counter and I opened it.
