22. Through the Storm

It's me again God,

It's amazing to watch storm clouds forming in the country, menacingly moving across the sky, ready to burst open any minute! From the shelter of a wide veranda, I sit —I have a front row seat to view the show! Fluorescent lightening pierces the clouds and the immediate crack of thunder is so loud that I nearly spill my tea! It's exciting and scary all at the same time as one flash after another indicates that the storm is getting closer and within seconds, heavy drops of water burst from black clouds that seem to have almost touched the earth! Faster and faster they fall, accompanying the electrical display —deafening percussion coming to a crescendo!

The air temperature drops as a gentle breeze blows a fine mist of cool water my way, such a relief after the heat of the day.  After quite a lengthy performance, the storm passes just leaving the soothing rhythm of rain on the tin roof, filling up the rainwater tanks, hydrating the yellow grass and fruit trees. I sigh with relief that the storm has passed by without harming me and I look to the heavens, silently in awe of You!

Thank You for reminding me of Your mighty power and strength! I praise You for sheltering me from physical storms and the storms of life that can come upon me, threatening to overwhelm me. Thank You for all of the promises in Your Word that reassure me of Your presence through even the darkest times!

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭46:1-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Just as a storm passes, so too, I can be sure that the difficulties that arise from time to time will not last forever! Dark skies will be replaced by the sun —I will see Your radiance once more!

"Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭23:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Thank You for being with me in the darkest of places. You never leave me alone but are with me, bringing comfort and giving guidance. Thank You that I can rest and just trust in You —You are the greatest veranda —the best refuge of all!

"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.""
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭91:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Thank You for keeping me safe with You:

"For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock."
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭27:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Thank You that whenever I am afraid, I can fully trust in You:

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?"
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭56:3-4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Thank You for these encouraging words You spoke to Moses so long ago so I am reminded that You never leave me:

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.""
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭31:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Thank You too for this promise You gave me through the apostle Paul:

"But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Lord I am so blessed by Your continual favour over me! Your power finds its full expression through my weakness so I can praise You in every situation!

When the storm has passed and I can finally see the clear blue sky, I will continue to praise You and marvel at Your faithfulness!
