34. Who are You Following?

It's me again God,

It's amazing how the world reveres certain people and how easily someone can become famous today.  In the past, a person needed to be royalty, a rock star, sports star, movie star, inventor or renowned brain surgeon to be in the limelight. However, in the age of reality TV and social media, there are many new famous people in the world —YouTube or Instagram sensations!

People follow these celebrities enabling them to make a living out of just taking photos or videos of themselves and posting regularly. They seem to shape the way people live their lives as they choose to eat the same way, dress the same way, exercise and use the same skin care products! Followers regularly search their newsfeeds for new posts, eager to know more about them and to be first to 'like' their update. They spend many hours scrolling through every word they say and taking it to heart. They think that because these people have so many followers, they are definitely worth following!

I am challenged by this because I have looked at various famous people too and have spent time reading their information on life and how to live it but how much time do I spend being a follower of someone online in comparison to time spent following You? Do I revere You and wait with anticipation as I come to read Your Word?

It seems that there are so many distractions in this life but I choose to put You first:

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:33‬ ‭NIV‬‬

You are my first priority in the day and spending time with You is so wonderful! I can comment all I like on an Instagram post but the person doesn't care that much about me or what is on my mind —they don't even know me! You know me so well:

"You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely."
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139:1-4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

You love the fact that I am Your follower and you guide me all through my life:

"even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

"he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake."
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭23:3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

"You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory."
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭73:24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I can be sure that when I follow You, You will never lead me astray or let me down! You are the only voice I want to hear in my head because You know me so well:

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."
‭‭John‬ ‭10:27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

As Your follower, I am not just a number —I am Your child! Thank You for the joy of being part of Your family forever! I am so blessed to be adopted:

""I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.""
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭6:18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!"
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I am heading into this new day, confident about who I am and secure knowing I am following the only One who is truly worthy of all my praise and adoration! I will pay attention to updates from You throughout the day as Your Spirit prompts me and I'll be sure to tell others about You too!
