It's me again God,

I am so thankful for this time to come to You and just be in Your presence as I read Your Word. This is Your day and I praise You for who You are and all You have done. I magnify Your Name above all others for You are so good! Thank You Jesus for dying for me and opening up the way for me to be saved for all eternity. You are so good!

Lord, my life is filled with many blessings which You have provided and many of them are very valuable to me. Sometimes I can get caught up with focusing on these things and my heart is not in the right place. Your Word for me today helps me to put things into perspective:

""Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:19-21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Life will be filled with disappointments when I focus on earthly treasures! Moths can ruin a woollen garment very quickly which can be very upsetting especially if it was an expensive coat! All sorts of vermin can spoil food such as cockroaches, weevils and mice. I recently witnessed a plague of grasshoppers which covered acres of grass and had attacked and spoilt vegetables and the fruit on several trees and it made me think about this topic.

Many people have elaborate security systems in order to protect their house and car from thieves.  A person could spend their whole life just trying to protect what they own, only to have a tragic fire or flood destroy everything! Material things are just not going to keep me happy!

I need to examine my heart Lord and think about what is really important.  What do I really treasure?  .........You are my greatest treasure! One day I will die and all my earthly treasures will be left behind!  Only the things that are done in Your Name will last! When I picture the fruit that was damaged by grasshoppers, I am reminded that only Your fruit of the Spirit will last —love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, goodness, self-control, kindness and gentleness! I pray for these fruits in increasing measure to be evident in my life.

May my heart be seeking only those things that will last!

In Jesus' Name,
Amen.
