27. Royalty

It's me again God,

I love the beautiful connection I have with You and am constantly amazed that I have the privilege of spending time with You, the Maker of the universe! I'm so thankful for the way You speak to me and show me Your love throughout the day and remind me You are with me and interested in what I'm doing.

It made me laugh yesterday when You suddenly brought to my attention a cicada on the trunk of a tree! It was like You were reinforcing to me the things You had been showing me in my quiet time, earlier in the morning. It was also significant that the cicada I saw is known as a 'Black Prince', reminding me that we are sons and daughters of the King and so we are princes and princesses! Thank You for giving me this picture of royalty and of how much I have because I am Yours:

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Again the picture of the cicada is seen in this verse as the it spends seven years or more in darkness underground before emerging into the light!  The interesting thing is that it sheds an exoskeleton, just like I put off the old self and left that behind when I became a Christian!

"For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin."

Thank You that I can also see how a cicada is destined for higher places as it climbs a tree in order for its wings to dry before making the most of it's short life of about four weeks. It doesn't return to that place of darkness and neither will I! Lord I am so thankful that in Jesus, I am destined for higher places! As Your child, I am an heir:

"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory."

What a magnificent reminder of the amazing position I am in. I am no longer in darkness, I've left my old self behind and I reign on high as Your precious child! Time is short and I will remember to make the most of this day, bearing witness for You! Today I will hold my head high, knowing how much I am loved and of the wonderful inheritance that awaits me!

"...giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
