"It's my fault, HeadMaster...Sir. This is all my idea."
I winced while listening to my bestfriend take all the blame for what happened during the afternoon break time when AnneMarie made her grand romantic gesture that resulted to Robin getting hurt when the mic fell on AnneMarie's crush's head.
Predictably, because someone got hurt by our antics, AnneMarie and I were called to the HeadMaster's office. We more or less expected that. But what hurts my pride is that my bestfriend is willing to take the full blame for what happened.
"Mr.Tañada, do you have anything to say?" HeadMaster Brown asked me.
I stared at our very English and very British HeadMaster. St.Anne is an international school, the students here are diverse and came from all over the world. As well as the teachers and the staffs. Our headmaster is English, our Literature professor is French and the one managing our cafeteria is a kind Chinese lady who gives out free fortune cookies to everyone.
But as diverse as our school is, the rules are the same as other schools. Safety of the students is the main concern...and if someone got hurt, an investigation will automatically proceed to see who is the culprit.
In this case, the culprits are easy to discern. They were hundreds of witnesses that saw the two idiots on the rooftop when a mic fell and almost crack Robin Akage's head open.
I sighed when I realized that HeadMaster Brown is patiently waiting for me to answer. I told him what's on my mind. "Robin Akage should have gotten out of the way. He saw the mic falling. We shouted a warning. Really, this whole thing could have been avoided if he just moved...even an inch..."
"Mr.Tañada, are you really blaming the victim now?" HeadMaster Brown gave out a disappointed sigh.
"No! That's not what I mean..." I waved my hands in the air to deny his conclusion just as the headmaster's office door opened to admit Robin, with fresh bandage on his forehead where his injury is.
AnneMarie stood up in haste as her crush entered the room. "Ah Mr.Akage, take a seat." The headmaster gestured for a chair opposite where AnneMarie and I were sitting in front of the headmaster's table.
"Are you okay?" AnneMarie asked Robin worriedly as her crush sat down.
"I am fine," Robin said evenly. Without any implication on his tone. "I have a hard head. It's okay..."
I inwardly snorted. Who is he to act so cool about what happened? He bled, there's blood...that proves he is human. He should act like a human. If it was me, I will be angry. Or at least sour about everything that happened. I got hurt after all.
AnneMarie sat down beside me again. "We are truly sorry. Blu..." she tapped my thigh. "We are sorry," I said in support to what she said.
"We should inform your guardian, Mr.Akage..." the HeadMaster said.
"No need," Robin replied easily. "My uncle is a busy man. He doesn't need to bother with this."
"I know CEO Akage has banks to monitor, but still...you got hurt. We need to inform your guardian or parents." The headmaster insisted.
"My parents are both abroad, you don't expect them to come here in the Philippines for this simple matter, right Sir?" Robin frowned a bit. "Besides, my parents are divorced and they are living their lives in peace. I don't want to bother them. You don't have to inform anyone, I will explain everything to my uncle. He won't miss the bandage in my head, he will surely have questions."
