A Great Day

(ROBIN)

My right foot tapped rythmically on the concrete floor as the flurry of activities moved around me. I'm in the process of getting my mind into the competition. I'm ready to swim. I'm ready a month ago to swim and win medals. I don't worry about that. I know I have it inside me to win. My main competition is myself.

I'm still nervous though, which I think is good. If I am not nervous when participating in a swimming competition, that's when I know this thing doesn't matter anymore. But I do love swimming and competing, so my desire to win grates on my nerves a bit.

My mind is focused on winning...and one other matter though. I'm actually waiting for Blu to show up and make true of his promise to give me a pre game good luck kiss. I messaged him thirty minutes ago and he said he is on the way to the venue of the swim meet with Uncle Zane and Gilbert.

It means a lot to me that my family is supporting me in this competition. All the people I intend to impress with winning are on the way to cheer for me.

"Alright, Robin?" Coach Diaz patted my shoulder, he also peered into my face to see if I am okay. "You are being unusually quiet," he said.

"Yes," Tim agreed. He sat beside me on one of the shower room benches. "You are being quiet. You usually chat around while getting ready to compete. Being all calm and excited at the same time. But you look different today. Don't tell me you are nervous,"

"Aren't you?" I asked Tim. "I care about winning medals today so I am a bit nervous. Besides, I like the feeling. It means I still love this sports."

"Robin has a point," Coach Diaz agreed with me. "We all care to win that's why we feel the nerves. But never let it ruin your focus. We are here to win medals and to stay competitive on our way to the Nationals. I believe in this team. I know, you all won't let this team down." Coach nodded to us. "Gabe? Say something to your teammates."

Gabe sighed, like most of us, he is already in his tight jammers, the kind of swimsuit that is knee length and made of hydrophobic material that makes it easy for swimmers to cut through the water in speed. There's also a towel around Gabe's neck and he is gripping them while looking at us. "Just...this is my last year competing for St.Anne and know that y'all make me proud. I hope I make you proud today. Lets take those medals and go to the Nationals. Lets swim!"

"LETS SWIM!" We clapped for Gabe. This is his and Sander's last year being part of the team. They will graduate at the end of the school year and will ascend to college. I hope we win medals for Gabe and Sanders. They have given too much to this team, I remember them being supportive when I first join this team.

Gabe patted my shoulder. I know he is cheering me on as the next Captain of this team.

"Teams, start assembling beside the pool, please..."

The intercom inside the shower room sounded with the announcement of calling the teams to the swimming pool. Coach clapped his hands and started tapping players to get them to line up outside the shower room. I stayed sitting down. I need Blu to come now.

He is coming, right?

"Robin! Someone is here for you!" That was Kenneth who shouted from the door. I looked up to see Blu hovering near the door of the shower room. He gave me a grimaced at me while trying not to block the swimmers' ways as my teammates leave the shower room.

"Mr.Gilbert said you forgot your lucky item," Blu said while waving a good sized pouch in his hand.

"Yeah, come in!" I beckoned Blu to come in. Blu slowly slipped inside the shower room just as Tim went to the door. They met at its opening. Tim frowned at Blu. "Robin doesn't believe in superstition and lucky items. When did you start believing that stuff, Robin?" Tim looked back at me.
