(ROBIN)
What? Marry into the Akage clan so I will have the rights to carry that name?
Uncle is basically saying that he adopted Blu so Blu could hold my inheritance for me, my position as his heir, until he finds a way to get me back my Akage name. And if all else fails, he also adopted Blu so I can marry his adoptive son and bear the Akage name that way.
What?!
My Uncle is this...determine to keep me?
"You...went as far as to think of marrying me off to Blu to give me the Akage name?" I stared at my Uncle. Wondering how he came with all these plans.
Uncle sighed. "I will not lose you both," he simply said. Like that six words should make anyone automatically understand all his reasonings for doing what he is doing.
Whatever it is he is doing.
I swallowed, "Uncle like you said, I am eighteen now, I can decide for myself..."
"Your mother is now incapable of bearing another child," Uncle said to cut in to what I have to say.
I stiffened upon hearing Misaki entering the conversation. "What does that has to do with me?"
"We had a conversation. I tried convincing her to let me adopt you. She conveyed to me that she will fight tooth and nail to keep you for her family because you are all she has now that she cannot bear another child. Do you know your Haruma family?" Uncle asked.
I shook my head. "My maternal grandparents usually send me gifts when its my birthday and some special occasion. But aside from that, they don't bother me."
Which is what I prefer really. For them not to bother me. I know I have relatives on my mother side. I once had dinner with my maternal grandparents and they both told me that they will welcome me to their family once I am ready to join them or even acknowledge Misaki. They are decent people. But no way in league with my Akage family in terms of prestige or fortune.
Lets put this way, my Akage family is on class A when it comes to prestige and fortune. The Haruma family is on class C at most. Its not a contest, really.
But their class is a moot point. I am Uncle's nephew. That's who I am. I am not a Haruma, I am an Akage.
"I am not one of them," I told Uncle before reaching for the glass of lemonade beside my plate. "This is my family. This is where I belong. With the three of you."
"True," Uncle held Gilbert's hand. "You belong with us. The both of you belong to us. That is why I am telling you all of this. Circumstances didn't give me enough time to formulate a plan that could keep you in our family registry, I only did what I can do at the afforded time given to me. I married Gilbert, we adopted Blu and now you will have no choice but to stay with us if you want to stay close to Blu."
"And you intend for me to hold Robin's place until you could adopt him yourself or, if all else fail...you will marry us to give Robin your name. Is that it?" Blu said.
Uncle gave Blu a pained look. "I'm sorry, Blu. I wish I could say I am not using you. But one way or another, I need the both of you to bear the Akage name. When you and Robin fell in love, I thought you are the one who will marry him to be part our family. But in the end, I couldn't even secure Robin. I'm sorry..." he looked at me. Then he went back to Blu. "But if you will help us this time, I promise...you can keep carrying your parents' name. I won't force you to use ours. And I will support you in any endeavor you will choose to take in the future. But for now, I need you to do this for me and Robin."
I turned to Blu. "I'm sorry, Blu." I apologized to him. He is being used and I cannot do anything to object because Uncle did all of it for me.
Blu sighed. "Its all temporary, right?" He asked wistfully.
