"You shouldn't let our son befriend that boy in the chicken coop. What if the Japanese guy finds out that our son is keeping that boy company?" Tatay said, sounding angry. From where I was hiding, under the kitchen table and between the chairs, I can clearly hear him while he speaks with Nanay.

"BlueJay is young and kind. How can we stop him from being nice to that boy?" Nanay countered evenly. "Maybe we should send our son to your sister until the boy's family pay the ransom for him..."

"I think that is a good idea. Tomorrow, I will call my sister to inform her that she'll have to look after BlueJay for the meantime. Until this is all over," Tatay sighed.

Nanay patted his shoulder. "It is for the best. It won't be for long. We will be with our son again. We are doing this for him anyways..."

Tatay nodded. I shrank myself when I heard movements. Footsteps as my parents left the kitchen. I don't understand everything they are talking about but I think they will send me to Tita Josie to play with my cousins. I do so everytime we visit Tatay's sister.

I like that. I like playing with my cousins. But if I leave, the boy inside the chicken coop will be sad. Keyito will be sad and alone. I know he is already afraid of the dark.

What should I do?

"I never thought of you as a guy who will be into wearing couple's rings," AnneMarie said while we are sitting on a quiet corner of the library, doing a little research for our assignment in Literature. We are sitting at opposite sides of a table while open books are scattered between us

My eyes strayed at the ring nestling on the fourth finger on my left hand. The black band has a nice contrast on my skin and as days passed, I feel validated for picking this particular gift for Robin.

"Well, in fairness, I also never thought of myself as a guy who will fall for another guy and one so popular at that." I said.

"True," AnneMarie twirl the pen on her hand. "This relationship with Robin is bringing out something in you we don't know you are capable of doing. For example, the elaborate stage you built just to shout to the whole school about your love for him."

"Don't remind me," I sighed a long exhale and focused on the words on the book that I am reading.

"What is wrong?" AnneMarie asked suddenly.

I scoffed softly as I looked up at her. "Nothing..."

My bestfriend rolled her eyes. "Okay, I know I won't be receiving the "BestFriend of the Year" award, whats with all the crazy antics I did, but I am still your bestfriend. I know you, BlueJay. I know when something is wrong with you. Spill it."

I winced. I really cannot hide to AnneMarie. She is right. She knows me. "I have been having strange dreams..."

"The same strange dreams you once mentioned to me?" AnneMarie frowned.

I nodded. "I mean, I can't seem to remember them when I wake up. Or at least every detail of those dreams. All I know is that they are strange and when I wake up from having them, I feel confuse and tired. Sometimes even scared. It's stressing me out."

"Are you having a hard time sleeping?"

"No," I shook my head. "Which makes this all a lot weirder. I sleep fine. I just dream. And when I do, I feel tired. Like I said, it challenges logic. I can sleep fine, at least I am not tossing and turning or screaming when I dream 'coz that will surely wake Robin up, but I still feel tired."
