(ZANE AKAGE)
I felt the stressful tension running up and down my body as I walked to the hallway leading to the doors of the penthouse.
I am still debating if it was a good idea for me to not go after Gilbert when he walked away after delivering lunch on the office.
After witnessing that embarrassing situation with Louis, the intern in my office.
But who would have predicted that Louis will be clumsy enough to spill coffee on my lap and Gilbert will walk in on us just as Louis was collecting the cup on the floor and I am checking my soaked groin. It was really quite lucky that my sensitive area was not scorched by that coffee. My polyester pants and cotton underwear saved me.
Anyways, that whole things was unfortunate but what's more unfortunate was the meeting I have to attend right after that incident. I was on my mind to cancel that appointment but Devin reminded me that this meeting was already postponed twice, due to some emergencies I have to see for myself, and cancelling the third time will akin to me losing face with our business partners.
So yeah, I attended that meeting. I continued working. But my mind was never settled during the whole afternoon because I have been thinking of Gilbert. I did try calling him but Gilbert is not answering his phone, or even the landline on the penthouse.
And now it's already 6pm and I wonder in what mood will I find Gilbert in.
I wish Gilbert has calmed down, at the very least. Or if I am lucky, Gilbert will ignore all that fiasco in my office and we can sit down and talk in a calm and civilized manner.
But I reminded myself that I was being so unlucky these past few weeks so...I am not putting much faith on that second option.
Whatever. I just want to see Gilbert. See if he is okay. I wonder what he ate that he decided to pack lunch for me and come to the office today. In any given day...why did Gilbert come to the office today?
Why?!
I sighed heavily and opened the main door to slip inside the penthouse. Everything is quiet. Not unusual because Robin and Blu won't be home for fifteen more minutes. I wish Gilbert and I will reach some kind of understanding before the boys come home.
It should be easy because I am an expert banker. I do deals all the time. Negotiate terms for loans and investments. I can reason with Gilbert.
Right?
"Gilbert," I called for my quarry as I set my briefcase on a solo armchair in the living room. I also shrugged off the business jacket I am wearing and folded the sleeves of my shirt to the middle of my forearms.
"In the kitchen," Gilbert's voice answered from the direction of the...well kitchen. He is in the kitchen.
So I went there.
And saw Gilbert in the kitchen, with ingredients on the long preparation island in the middle of the spacious area. I saw a whole chicken, some vegetables, herbs, a chopping board and some stainless steel bowls in different sizes.
But Gilbert is not in front of the long island chopping things or peeling vegetables. Instead Gilbert is on a corner, near the sink, standing there and nursing a glass of wine.
