Chapter 40: Mission Accomplished (Human Military Au)

"Sergeant, do you copy?"

Pearl took cover behind one of the stone road blockers and pressed into her earpiece. "Yeah I'm here. Spot anyone up there Corporal?" She says, carefully scanning the broken town.

"Nope. The place seems empty."

Pearl looks over the road blocker. "So if I vault over this, I won't end up with bullets in my body?"

"Affirmative! Don't tell me you're scared Sergeant."

Pearl grinned as she vaults over the blocker. "Of course not. Come down here would ya? I'm gonna radio the rest of the squad."

"Roger that!"

Pearl switches channels on her radio. "Cuttlefish 1, do you copy?"

"Yeah. What's up?"

"Area is secured. Meet up back in the center."

"Alright- No Callie, we're on a mission right now!"

Pearl sighed and shut off the channel as she slides down onto the ground and drinks from her canteen.

She's been in the army for about 3 years. Her father was apart of the army for 15 years, before retiring. Her grandfather took part in the war of Vietnam. The military ran in the houzuki family. However, Pearl was the first female in her family to join the service.

Right now, their mission was search and rescue. Pearl has done many of these type of missions and never once had to fire at an enemy. The enemies were really bad at 'babysitting' their prisoners.

Pearl looks up as she hears someone drop down to the ground, hand twitching for her pistol but stops when she sees who it was. "God, could ya say something before doing that. I would of shot ya Ida."

A dark skinned female, holding a sniper rifle walks over to the other women. "Sorry about that.

She walks over and sits on the floor with Pearl. "It's all good. We're just going to be on standby until the rest of the squad gets here."

"Alright then." The Corporal replied.

This was Marina's second year in the service. She was put under Pearl's wing, since the two worked well together. During their time of working together, they grew really, really close.

Pearl's hand was itching to hold Marina's but the two made up a rule, where they weren't to romance with each other while on duty.

But we're on standby right now... Pearl reminds herself.

"Hey Ida? Are we still on duty if we're on standby?" She asked.

"Well technically no but Standby and duty are-" Marina was cut off as Pearl kissed her softly.

She giggled as she kissed back, placing her free hand on the Sergeant's cheek.

Pearl pulls away and smiles. "Sorry, I've been wanting to do that for hours."

"God, me too. Sometimes I want to just slap myself for coming up with that rule." Marina replies.

"It's a good thing you did. Otherwise, We probably would of been separated from each other." Pearl pointed out.

Marina giggled. "Right." She looks up at the sky. "You know, when we retire from this, I'm going to ask you to marry me." She said.

Pearl looked at the other female, blushing really hard. "I-" She couldn't form a sentence as her heart felt like it had melted. Clearing her throat, she looks away. "Not if I ask first." She finally said.
