Sometimes the right person came at the wrong time.

You had been waiting for your whole life to finally meet the one. The one who would take your breath away and would bring an immortal happiness into your life. You had been waiting for as long as you could remember.

And when you met him, finally, your breath was taken away for a moment when he looked at you, your heart swelled in joy when he talked to you.

It felt as if heaven was a place on Earth with him.

Sadly, he was never yours.

Stephen Strange was perfect in your eyes. He was everything that you were waiting for. His kindness towards you was not helping either. You kept falling in love with him, and you did not plan to stop.

It was heavenly, everyday you woke up smiling, knowing that you could see your favourite Sorcerer Supreme.

Everytime he came to the tower, he would find you in the lab. Those awkward glances and adorable giggles that you both shared during the earlier time were gone now that you both had became fond of each other.

You looked up from your work when you heard someone knocked the lab door. You beamed at Stephen who was leaning against the doorframe, pointing at his watch. A gasp of realisation escaped your lips when you noticed that you forgot about your lunch with him.

"I'm so sorry, Stephen! I forgot."

A guilty smile was plastered on your face and he just chuckled. Bruce and Tony looked at each other and shook their heads.

"Just go, Y/N. Don't want to keep your date waiting."

Tony mumbled, but loud enough for you to hear him. You hushed the billionaire, but failed to hide your grin. Bruce and Tony always joked about how Stephen was your boyfriend and all, but honestly, he was just a friend.

Bold of you to say that, you were hoping Stephen could be more than a friend.

And I will make sure to keep my distance

Never once did you tell him about your feelings, afraid of rejection and breaking the friendship. But your love for him just grew stronger. The love was getting powerful and it almost took control over you.

However, when you knew that he used a watch that Christine gave him, your heart ache. He even showed you, the beautiful words behind the watch, which were absolutely meaningful for him.

"She was special to me."

Was. Somehow that word managed to comfort your fragile heart. You knew she was still in his heart, but you believed that she was his past.

"Do you still love her?"

You asked, trying to hide your dejection. Stephen gave you a smile, putting his hand on top of yours, squeezing it gently.

"I'd rather not to talk about that."

He said, and it was enough to bring a smile upon your face. You were holding on an empty hope, but you had faith in it. Little did you know that your faith was going to crumble soon.
